This team was up 13 in the second half, and like the young team they are, almost blew it because they relaxed and the other well coached team battled back.

It was infuriating to watch that guard on Colgate drive to the basket over and over with no one stopping him.

The media has been for the last few days questioning that if he goes to Syracuse it will be the worst decision

Because he won't be able to live up to his father or create his own legacy

Yet at the end of the day I just want good basketball players

it's baffling

Like he was so bad I felt like it had to be intentional. Every time he was near the ball it was bad. If he was not on the floor we win. Was a shame because there was such a good effort by so many players

Really needed that win against ND. Just an off shooting night from outside. Both teams seemed pretty even. Carlos with a much better game.

No JJ is gonna hurt

I feel like it is worth asking the 8-10 folks that regularly post on Cuse hoops this question…how are we feeling about Red so far?

I love what he is doing recruiting wise and getting the program back to relevant that way.

i don’t at all like the product on the floor, I mean it is a tough watch this year.  Defensively, it has been pretty awful since he took over.  I keep waiting to see things click, and it just isn’t happening.  These past couple years we have been way too soft, like Bills DLine soft.  Seems like the talent is back but not seeing the result at all.

thoughts?  Too much turnover year to year?

I like his recruiting abilities I'm not so sure about his game day coaching abilities yet

The defenses atrocious and going away from the zone which was our specialty for 35 years it's been a hard transition

Feels like a reflection of the product we are seeing, which is basically AAU ball: Great recruiter; not so great coach.

Re defense, you sort of wonder whether we couldn’t add a real defensive specialist to this coaching staff to improve that part of it.

I also think that we are young and you wonder if the upperclassmen transfer they bring in should be more rugged physical rebounder/defender types, to pair with the younger offensive talent.  (EDIT: Ironically, a guy like Maliq Brown).

I will say that Red deserves a very long leash. It’s going to take time to turn things around. I’d like to see him given an opportunity to do that.

Red definitely deserves a pretty long leash

But we are seeing exactly what goes on in AAU basketball

That was always one of the benefits for coming to Syracuse ... Because boeheim let guards and wings play freely... NBA style isolation ball... A lot of recruits want to play free

Where Jim had everything reigned in... Was defensively ... You could add lib offensively because we're getting top 60 recruits in the world... But you're going to buy in to our zone defense

Now, red still has the freedom for the guards and wings.. but there is zero cohesion or buying in on the defensive end

I get the NBA didn't like our zone because they couldn't tell how our guys played man to man... But towards tournament time the two three zone was the ultimate playing field leveler to the teams who didn't get to see it

It's going to be a 5-year transition to a man defense when we've been doing the same stuff for 40 years

Red will be fine.  I think losing G-Mac was a big loss for the coaching staff, so it'll take time to backfill that.  Once the coaching staff is fully inplace with a couple seasons under their belts, i am hopeful that we will see vast improvements.

Right now I am not a fan.  Man to man defense isnt some complex thing, everyone plays it and has played it. We have big athletic people, man to man shouldnt be as difficult as we seem to make it.  We need effort and buy in to be good defensively, which reflects on coaching imo.

Seems like SU is going to start falling farther behind because of the NIL and transfer portal regardless of who is heading the program.

They just don't have the billionaire boosters needed to write the checks like a lot of the bigger programs do.

Adam Weistman might have helped but I have been hearing that the university has been wanting to distance themselves from him now.
