D-Hop got to pick his team - I’m so confused how folks don’t understand this about the old elite guys.

They may have had a main option then an option B …. Like I think Diggs would have gone to Dallas but my bet is the money didn’t work.  So Houston was next.

D-Hop chose the team that’s the best fit and just so happens to be the SB favorite.

End of debate.  Cooper is still a great WR and I’m looking forward to what he can do.

Wow, big sample size.

This debate is settled.

Clearly not. But many here said Hopkins is toast and not a difference maker. He was tonight  Hopkins has looked more impressive than cooper since the trade but a long way to go. Many just went to say cooper is better though. Because he is the guy we got.

More yards, catches and td’s in one game than cooper has in 3 with Buffalo (2 that he played).

He literally played with the Chiefs last week

This is his second game.. and Cooper was dealing with injury versus the Seahawks

To everyone that has ever met me, I'm the biggest Bills fan they've ever met, yet I come on here and have to play the role of the guy that hates the Bills, because this place is constantly filled with the most outlandish nonsense. At no point in his entire life was Amari Cooper close to the player DeAndre Hopkins is. Yea, he's faster, and he's younger - he's still not better. Maybe some people saw that this evening.

Cooper was cheap, so that's a bonus, but his lousy hands have already made an appearance for us, and he's leading the league in drops. If there's one non-negotiable I have for a WR, it's catching the football. That said, Cooper is still the best WR on our roster, and I'm happy to have him, but between him and Coleman, we have two starting outside receivers that can't catch. That's not a recipe for success.

Good points between DHop and Cooper. But why is Coleman catching unnecessary strays?

I wouldn't say it's unnecessary. If you have one WR that has catching issues, maybe you can work around that, now our top two outside guys both do, and that's a problem.

Coleman is still young and finding his way. It’s not an issue yet imo. Cooper is a different story. But you’re right that he’s still the best wr in the bunch and this offense will be better for it.

Absolutely fair. I don't expect a rookie WR to come in polished - it's extremely rare, if not unheard of. I only consider it an issue for us in the immediate term because we need to rely on him so much this year.

Hopefully working on technique will be a big focus for him in the offseason, and he's a monster next year.

Cooper's ability to re-sign will depend on whether he develops any chemistry with Josh. The first game had some promise, but the next 2 were duds. So far I'm not sure how excited he is to be in Buffalo.  He's a tough dude to read.

I mean he looked pretty good in his first game got dinged up in the second... And he didn't play yesterday

So we got one game of amari and he got dinged up.. I don't think you could judge it from that let's see what he looks like in 5 weeks

I don’t want to make this cooper vs Hopkins…wait this thread literally is cooper vs Hopkins.

Watch an entire career of nfl tape and tell me cooper is better than Hopkins. So it’s not judging just a few weeks.

but it really doesn’t matter. We needed wr and  we got one. Cooper is the best on our roster and it’s ok if he is not better than Hopkins. Cooper can be good for the bills, not as good as Hopkins, and it still be a good trade to make.

Most people would take Hopkins over Cooper. The Bills weren’t getting Hopkins , so it’s a pointless debate unless it’s about fantasy. Hopkins had a chance to come here previously and chose to go elsewhere. He wasn’t an option this time as the $$ wasn’t going to fit. Even then, my guess is he’d still have picked the Chiefs.

Well yeah prime DeAndre Hopkins was an absolute stud

Age is a mofo in the NFL and 32 is a lot older than 30

The draft compensation shows what people thought their value was

Or the Bills paid too much OR KC got a better deal.

The Bills and Chiefs each added an excellent veteran receiver.  The Bills gave up a little more in draft picks to get Amari Cooper, but the Chiefs are stuck with more salary requirement with DeAndre Hopkins.  (Tennessee will pay half of Hopkins's salary but the remaining amount is much more than what the Bills are paying Cooper for the rest of the year.)

Cooper is very likely a rental unless the Bills and he completely fall in love with how things work out and both sides give a little slack in salary negotiations going forward.  If Cooper just wants to chase dollars, I think the Bills will not be able to match.

I don't know what KC's plans for Hopkins are.  They have Rice and Brown both injured, both good, and both returning next year, so maybe Hopkins is a rental too.

So, what's your bottom line on which deal was better?  It could be, both teams come out ahead and are happy with the results.  But, given the choice, would you have preferred to get Hopkins than Cooper?  My thought is the Bills couldn't afford even half of Hopkins salary, so they did the best they could getting Cooper, who's just about as good as Hopkins.

Depends upon how they're used.

We aren't exactly known for bringing in free-agent WRs and receiving RBs and turning them into much in the passing game since Diggs or Beasley  several seasons ago.  Hines, Sherfield, Harty, Samuel, Hollins, MVS (injury notwithstanding)

Otherwise, always go for youth once you hit that 30 year-old mark.

Not sure that Cooper fits into our ideology very well, we're a short passing and running team now, when it works, and we have a plethora of short yardage receivers.  maybe our offensive philosophy changes, we'll see.   When it doesn't work is when Allen goes off script and excels.

What's interesting is that we preach an "everybody eats" philosophy regarding our passing game, but then operate off of a philsophy where Allen's passing attempts diminish by nearly 20% on the season.

Obviously we'll see how it shakes out.

It was Hopkins for me all day, every day.

At 32 it's risky.  Could also be the way he's used there, vs. the way he'd be used here.
