So why was Amari Cooper traded twice in his prime?

IMO teams want their best players to want to win the most.   It sets the tone.   So his "it's-a-business" demeanor isn't seen as ideal for a star player.   I don't disagree....he has been associated with more losing than you'd expect given the talent on the teams he's had so there could be something to it.  But the Bills were beggars in this market.   He is very talented and in the short term at least he opens up the offense greatly.   If he plays in the NFL for a lot longer and settles in as a WR2-WR3 somewhere I think he will be more appreciated.

There’s some validity here.

IIRC, the largest knock on Amari has been that he would disappear for stretches, particularly in Dallas but also Cleveland. He would have a 200 yard game then go 2 for 23 the next week or even have a couple catches in the 1st Q then be invisible.

I can’t exactly verify those claims because I can’t admit to watching every snap, but I definitely remember that criticism. And for a guy of his talent and health to have only passed 1200+ receiving yards in this era once, there’s probably some truth to a lack of consistency.

Ultimately, the THREAT of an Amari Cooper is worth just as much as his actual production IRT this offense, maybe even more. And this team isn’t really going to be looking to him for leadership as a hired gun brought in midseason.

I would say it's probably the main reason MONEY !! He was making $20 mill a year which the Browns are paying this year & the Bills got him for $800K which was a great move by Beane jumping on it .

The Browns are imploding due the the absolute brilliant decision to sign Watson and because of that they did more than likely the same thing the Bills did with Diggs and cut their loses by getting rid of Cooper and doing what ever they can to not have that cash on the cap next season .

Not sure if that is the reason but it sounds good .

This is a good point.  There were always whispers that he was a bit of a dog (not a dawg) but maybe he just doesn’t have the fire that some guys have (like Diggs, who maybe has too much of it).  To be fair none of the QBs Cooper played with were strong alphas except maybe Dak, but Dak has not been able to overcome the dysfunction of that franchise.  Maybe Cooper will do better on a team with a real leader at QB where he can just go ball.

Back to Diggs, reading between all of the lines, I suspect he would let Allen have it whenever Allen ran a play as called but not featuring Diggs, and it got into Allen’s head and hindered his ability to play within structure.  It became toxic on the field.  I don’t think he’ll have that issue with Cooper unless he gets fixated on his contract year target share but again, the kind of moping he’s known for is 1/1000 of what Diggs would get up to and I think they can handle it.

Cooper and his agent are looking at Cooper's next contract and likely talked parameters with Beane but in order for them to have leverage Cooper needs to have a good season and if it is spread too much it hurts his chances.
