If you could go back in time to March of 2024, would you sign Derrick Henry?

Could you imagine the outrage on this board if we traded Diggs, signed Henry, and made no other WR moves but maybe hollins (certainly now samuel). The WR train would be on fire.

Interesting observation, I have thought the same thing. He looks stronger, bigger and faster than at any time before in his career. When he gets up to speed its as if he has a "Nitrous switch" on his engine to boost him this year. Like the sprinter Ben Johnson back in the late 80s when he was jacked on Stanozolol.

Interesting question.  If we have Henry, would Baltimore have beaten us in Week 4?  I’m not sure they would have.

With Allen, as is the case with Jackson, Henry be the #2 punch.

I really don’t remember anyone saying they wanted Henry few months ago.  It’s not productive or reasonable to look at every signing  that works out and wondering why your team didn't do it.  Why didn’t other teams draft Josh Allen and let’s remember the responses on here.

Last year the ravens spent like 20M on beckham and agholor.  Free agency is as much a crapshoot as the draft.

Knowing what we know now I think you sign him just to keep them away from the ravens. I’m not certain he’d be having the same success with the bills, so it probably go down as an unpopular signing, but in hindsight, it would be good to not have him on the ravens.

Only once in the last 26 years has the leading rusher in the NFL even made it to the SuperBowl and that was last year with McCaffrey.

 

You have to go back to 1998 when the NFL leading rusher won the SuperBowl - Terrell Davis and the Broncos

 

So no, I have no second thoughts.  If you have a QB, you draft RBs and use them while they are young and then draft another one when you need to.

I’ll go right on the fence and say I’d rather Henry be taking those hits than Josh taking them and wearing down… but overall I’d rather that $8-10m a year dynamic role player be speed than power based overall

No we don't have the line, the coaching, or the QB to have the Ravens run offense. They are one of a kind.

 

The hindsight move is signing Darnell Mooney instead of Curtis Samuel.

I definitely don't knock Beane for not bringing in a 30-year old RB with almost 2,200 touches (no matter how good he is) when you're in a retooling year and already have Cook. We had a lot of positions to fill...didn't make a lot of sense to double-up on RBs (except through the draft).

 

Last season, Henry had 1,381 yards from scrimmage while Cook had 1,567 yards from scrimmage. Doesn't seem like the best use of your resources if one of those two guys is on the bench at any given time.

 

Yes, we're trying to win every season we have Josh, but we're also building towards the future and sustainability. Henry would have been a now move, not a future of the team move (building that young corps that we have now). Would Henry have put us over the top this year or next to win a SB? Who knows. But I'm really not second guessing the decision myself. 

 

And if Baltimore doesn't go on to win the Super Bowl this year, what does it matter (except that it's fun to watch...I'm happy for future-HOFer Henry to be having a huge season---finally on a good team...it's good for the NFL). Now if Henry stays healthy all year, keeps his numbers up, and Baltimore wins the Super Bowl, then maybe you can lament a bit. But let's at least see how things pan out first. What if the Bills get to the Super Bowl this year? Or at least make it farther in the playoffs than the Ravens. Will you still think the Bills should have gotten Henry?

 

Plus, every fan base does the same thing all of the time. I just heard a Chiefs fan going crazy that the Chiefs didn't trade for Cooper instead of the Bills.

I would sign him to keep him off the Ravens. I don’t think he would necessarily replicate his success here. Baltimore seems to have a very unique scheme.

Absolutely and you know nothing about football if you say otherwise. I’ve never seen a RB with a such a combination of power and speed. It’s almost like it defies the laws of physics. And he’s still only 30. Imagine Josh Allen and Derrick Henry sharing the same back field. 2  active HOFers. Good luck stopping that back field on 3rd and short 👍

How about in real time we trade for a Safety—-Cleveland for Grant Delpit or NO for Tyrann Mathieu or Andre Cisco from the Jags.  While we are at it, a linebacker——Jamin Davis off the street or Divine Deablo from the Raiders (for a day three pick). Baltimore loves winning the preseason and the regular season and they usually do. The playoff season they seem to fall short. Look for it again. King Henry will be off the field while they try to come from behind.

Our Oline is opening up some pretty big holes for our RB's who aren't even in the same caliber or sentence as the King and yet our line holds their own and our RB's are getting their yardage.

That's just perception. All relevant rushing metrics we are slightly below average. YPC, YPG, yards before contact, you name it. We've had, what, one drive the entire season where we dominated our opponent on the ground? That is the what our IOL is built for.
