We made our WR move so I'm fine with no Hopkins but sucks the Chiefs got him. Probably happier they got him over a guy like Kupp though. Still think we need safety/d-line help He's heading toward 33. He's not the receiver he once was, but he's still gotta be accounted for. I like our new wr better. We'll be fine. 1 1 Quote

BuffaloBillyG Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I'm better with them trading for Hopkins than I would be had they made the move for Kupp. I think DHop can still be productive. And yes, he will have a big game here and there. But I don't think he's a true WR1 anymore. Maybe I'd put him in the same category as Diggs, solid player that is better suited for a WR2 or 1B option. 1 1 Quote

He's younger, his physical abilities haven't diminished as much, he has better separation skills, he's less injury prone. If you don't believe me, believe the NFL market - Cooper went for a 3rd, Hopkins went for a 5th. That tells you where the players are valued. I don't know, I can't bring myself to worry too much about this trade. The Chiefs are undoubtedly better off now than they were last week, but they are undoubtedly worse off than they were in August. They were always going to trade for a WR once Rice went down. This trade means they won't be trading for Kupp so to me that's a net positive. It was a move that they HAD to do, not a move that pushes them over the top. The two-time defending champs and winners of 12 straight (vs the best teams in the league) needs to be pushed over the top? If Hopkins is healthy-ish, he's a big upgrade over any WR on KC's active roster right now. Plus, there's a pretty good chance that Hollywood Brown returns, and maybe sooner than most expect. Smith-Schuster will also be back. That receiving corps would be vastly better than what they've entered the postseason with the last two years. 1 Quote

It’s not because teams think he’s that much better, or better at all for that matter, than Hopkins, it’s that they can afford him. Even with eating salary by the Titans, Hopkins cost 3x as much. At this stage of the year, money is tight and that made Cooper more valuable. Overall, I see the two as pretty equal in terms of what they will bring, they’ll do it in different ways, but at the end of the day, both are older guys who are in the twilight of their careers, now playing with the best QB either has ever had. I don’t think Hop has lost a step so much as he has had trash throwing him the ball, which was/is the excuse people are giving Cooper for his lack of production this year. 1 1 Quote

Great point, the salary was the needle mover for a higher pick. Probably a 4th or 5th if it was double or triple the salary, like Hopkins. Curious as to what the “conditions” on it being a fifth rounder are. Quote

That is about the quality of the players being traded more than anything. I sincerely don't know any analyst that thinks Hopkins is as good as Cooper at this point in their careers. I guess we'll see. 1 Quote
BlazinBill Posted October 25 Posted October 25 (edited) I see it now- the 33 year old Hyde intercepting a pass intended for the 33 year old Hopkins to seal the game against the Chiefs on their final drive to push the Bills further into the playoffs Edited October 25 by BlazinBill 2 1 1 Quote

His last year in Dallas saw a decrease in stats due to CeeDee’s emergence as the #1. So how do you go from a 5th to a 3rd in a handful of years? Quote

They also voided 2 years when they got him by giving him like $18m. Edited October 25 by Sojourner Quote

I guess we'll see. When one guy fits under multiple team’s cap and some are real tight on it… ie the Bills.. there is more interest and bidding happens. Once the Bills and Jets were off the board, it’s down to KC and SF that legitimately “need” a WR and there are a lot of lower tier options they could look at, so inherently value is lower. The ONLY reason Cooper went for that much was the contract being that low. Quote

I guarantee you and the other homers would be saying the opposite if we got Hopkins and Chiefs got Cooper. In fact, everyone was saying Cooper was a product of his bad QB play in Cleveland, but won’t apply the same logic to Hopkins. 1 Quote

As far as how much of a part QB play factors into stats, here’s what Tennessee WRs have done this season compared to last: Calvin Ridley 2023: 76 catches, 1016 yards, 8 TDs 2024: 12 catches, 183 yards, 1 TD Tyler Boyd 2023: 67 catches, 667 yards, 2 TDs 2024: 18 catches, 170 yards, 0 TDs DeAndre Hopkins 2023: 75 catches, 1057 yards, 7 TDs 2024: 15 catches, 173 yards, 1 TD (and he’s only played 177 snaps all season) 1 Quote

frostbitmic Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I could see Mahomes using his new toy this Sunday for a couple of TDs. I've always liked Hopkins as a player and even if he isn't the player he used to be, he'll be of great value to the Chiefs. 1 Quote
