Bills sleepwalking

I mean, they've played without their starting QB for the last 4 weeks.  The canonical goal of backup QB play is to break even.  Dolphins are 1-3

If you have the two fastest WRs in the NFL and 3 of the fastest RBs in the NFL and you can't figure out a way to be competitive with a backup QB then maybe you're not the offensive genius everyone is hyping you up to be. They didn't look good with Tua in either the games he played.

The Bills are getting into the habit of sleepwalking through games.  They often seem to lack the desire to compete and win.  But, when they do, they play as one of the best teams in the league.  The coaches seem generally ineffective in getting them pumped up.

They're supposed to be professionals. What next? A pep rally led by Billy Buffalo on Friday night?

These are young men who can and do make mistakes, such as getting over-confident, losing their cool, making mental errors, committing penalties. etc.  And, yes, sleepwalking.  That is why they have coaches who teach them the skills needed for their position, prepare for the next game, and stay focused.  They need some adult supervision.

Ain’t no NFL team sleepwalking, sandbagging, or twiddling their thumbs when the game is still on the line.

I think the problem is the term “sleepwalking”. What is the exact definition of that word in the context of an NFL player. The way I see the word,  if you sleepwalk on an NFL field, you could die. Sleepwalking to me implies in part lack of effort, and that is not happening.

Do we have some lapses in concentration? Unfortunately, yes. Are we slow to adjust schemes? It can seem that way at times. Do we start too conservative? A bit too much for my taste. Sleepwalking is a lazy term that tries to roll everything together, with a negative spin, imo.

Our expectations of not only winning, but blowing out every team, need to stop. Nevermind the fact that they are blowing out teams.

Considering we're paying $30M to a player not on the roster this year, while we shed other veterans salaries and accumulate draft picks, I'd say I'm happy with just wins, winning the division, and then trying to simply win games in the playoffs. I could not care less about style points during regular season.

Exactly...this isn't really a thing. Except maybe on TV or in the movies. If the coach needs to get players pumped up to be professionals and do their job they probably got the wrong players and the players probably are in the wrong profession.

Interesting video about this stuff...

Essentially on D, they say that we usually play a "Nickel Over Front" aligned to the strong side almost exclusively and that allows teams to create scripted plays starting games that let them have early success. Then talk and show some adjustments they make within it that helps them improve significantly as the game goes on.

We had already beat the crap outta them before he got hurt.

That's not Big Nickel...

Big Nickel is when you have a larger safety type player essentially playing as a 3rd LB.

We play nickel as our base defense because Taron Johnson is such a good run defender in the slot it allows them to typically match up well enough to play with lighter boxes so they can play 2 high safeties and disguise coverages.

It also means that Tua is a much better player than he is given credit.

He is one of the highest-paid QBs in the league.  So, I would not say that he is under-appreciated.

His four-year, $212.4 million contract includes $167.2 million in guaranteed money; although, most of those guarantees are conditional.  However, the contract also includes incentives based on performance and playoff wins, which could increase his pay to $55.35 million per year and the total value of the contract could reach $221.4 million.

This is exactly what it is. They never send an extra rusher in the first quarter. Same ol, same ol.
