The MVP Race is 3 Players & Why they Can Win

Henry had no chance. He isn't going together more votes than Lamar.

It's realistically going to come down to Lamar and Allen and we really should know in about 5 weeks. As the Bills will play the Chiefs and the Ravens play 4 good Defenses.

Maybe the Broncos, Steelers or Browns crack the code. Teams have to figure out how to neutralize their rushing attack without sacrificing their safeties. Some team is going to figure out how

They’ll give Josh his first before they give Lamar his third if it’s reasonably close imo especially given the bills were ‘supposed’ to take a big step back on offense.

It very well may not be reasonably close though haha we’ll have to wait and see..that ravens offense is ridiculous

Not even close. The headlines to be a 3time MVP is too good to pass up. They can't give Henry the MVP when the reigning MVP is on the same roster, either. Henry could break the record for rushing yards and Jackson still gets it because the media hype. The media hype loves to pretend Josh is an underdog and pretend they ignore him. The media loves the narrative that Josh is not the same calibre as Jackson because he hasn't won anything, he throws picks, he isn't as great of a play maker.

The media keeps these narratives alive because it is what keeps them making an income.

Yep. I've been critical of Lamar Jackson in the past, but he is legitimately balling out this year.

BUT... it's a long season with ebbs and flows. Let's see if he can keep it up all year.

I want to see if Henry can keep up this level of production all year. If Henry starts to show a decline d/t age and usage, then let's see how well Jackson does carrying the entire offense. If Lamar can keep it up, I can't really argue with him getting the award.

Right now absolutely Lamar. But lots of season left.

Josh is going to need a big time showing in a big time game. Right  now I see possibly the unbeaten Chiefs coming to town to be that game.

There is a chance we could be the chiefs only loss. They don't have any tough games remaining - I don't count the Texans being tough against them.

The ravens have it even easier but they have a habit of dropping a few in division games or a random ***** up. Plus, they play the Texans.

The Texans are screwed.  Dallas, KC, Detroit, and the Ravens.  They will lose 2 more games.

The one seed in the AFC will be a 2 loss Ravens or Chiefs. Our Chiefs, Niners, Lions matchups will give us at least 1 loss for 3 on the season.

We are 6-7 games in with 10-11 games to go.

Jackson, Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, Stroud, Goff, Daniels, Love, Darnold can easily become MVP, it is simply too soon to judge. Some other probably too.

And Henry has almost no real shot lol.

I'd wager Henry gets more MVP votes than Darnold... I doubt Darnold gets any.

Jared Goff is 100% in the race right now. It's a 4 man race.

Statistically yes, losing Hutchinson if they still get a top seeding, yes.

However, he doesn't have the hype machines chiming in his favor. Shouldn't matter, but we know it does, Josh is a prime example.

The odds I get when I look at the British bookmakers on this are:

Lamar Jackson 11/4 FAV

Patrick Mahomes 9/2

Josh Allen 13/2

Jared Goff 15/2

Jordan Love 16/1

Joe Burrow 16/1

Derrick Henry is 55/1 so if you fancy that get your money on.....

Mahomes is a terrible price. He currently has more INTs than touchdowns. He won't get it if that holds true even if KC goes 17-0.

Goff was traded and the Rams won a Superbowl. No one will respect him until he does the same. It's BS

I was talking to my mate who is a Rams fan about this on Monday and he was saying "thank God we won the Superbowl in 2021 or else that Stafford for Goff and two firsts was a disaster of a trade." But they DID win a Superbowl and so it justified itself. But there is zero question that in the two and a half seasons since Jared Goff has been a considerably better Quarterback than Matthew Stafford.

Agree fully and Stafford is and never was a bad QB. He just wasn't fit for Detroit. Both are better off the route taken. Similarly with Eli and Rivers.

Allen is playing too good for Lamar not to get MVP #3.

In all seriousness, Lamar is having an outstanding season. I don’t think Allen has much of a shot.

Agree (at this point of the season).  Last year Josh got screwed.  He was clearly better over the course of the year but because the 3 INT performance in the opener on MNF, people couldn't let go of turnover-Josh despite winning-out to clinch the division.  This year, thus far, Lamar is lights out. Last week he was making Josh-Allen-throws.  He's been playing great.  Josh is playing more controlled and therefore taking fewer risks yielding fewer rewards.

The frustrating part about the MVP race is how the parameters for the award keep changing.

Last year, Josh Allen was the statistically superior player by far (44 touchdowns vs. 29 touchdowns).  But the media decided to overhype his turnovers every single week... to the point that most NFL viewers actually believed Allen was having a bad season.  Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson was considered a pretty 'meh' candidate for the award until the Christmas game against the 49ers.  Big primetime game at the end of the season, plus the Number One seed.  Got opinion on his side at the right time.

This year, Allen is (slightly) behind him in yards/touchdowns.  The Bills and Ravens have identical records.  But suddenly the turnovers (Allen with zero interceptions) don't matter to voters.  Patrick Mahomes has 6 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, and some are even arguing for him to win the award.

Very little chance for Allen, he’s on pace for 29 passing TDs and 3600 yards. Thats not getting it done.

In the Miami and Jacksonville games, the Bills were so far ahead that Josh Allen did nothing in the second half.

Against Arizona, he had only three passes at halftime.

The Ravens game was an anomaly... statistically his worst performance since his rookie season.

Also, the Bills just added a #1 WR to the team a week ago.

A lot of weird stuff over the first seven games.

My general feeling is that Allen's "pace" is well below where he's going to actually finish the season.

The Ravens will falter on the later half of the season as DC's will start shutting that down. Don't know if that matters much though to the peeps that vote - I think if Allen stays the course, he might be in the running
