Agreed, he dropped to the second round because he was not polished but now he looks quite polished and it is still early in year

He dropped to the 2nd round because Beane played a savvy game on draft day.

After today's game, Keon is 24th in the league in yards for a receiver. He is still 4th in yards for rookie WRs.

Rookies:

1. Brian Thomas, Jr.: 573 yards 5 TDs (23rd overall pick)

2. Malik Nabers: 427 yards and 3 TDs (still to play this week) (6th overall pick)

3. Marvin Harrison, Jr.: 411 yards and 5 TDs (4th overall pick)

4. Keon Coleman: 396 yards and 3 TDs (33rd overall pick)

FYI: Xavier Worthy (28th overall pick) now has 235 yards and 3 TDs (but he also has 47 yards rushing and 2 rushing TDs). So, 282 total yards and 5 total TDs.

Fourth is pretty good, especially considering there were 10 WRs selected in the first 37 picks (Keon being picked 33rd), seven of them ahead of Keon. It's still early, but then Keon seems to be improving each week also. The 2024 wide receiver draft class definitely has a chance to be one of the best at the position.

[NOTE: stats are prior to the Dallas/San Fran and Steelers/Giants games in week 8. Though the only rookie still to play is Nabers, who is already ahead of Keon. As far as overall receiving, it looks like only Deebo and Darius Slayton could pass him, so he may be 25th or 26th overall in receiving yards after these games.]

The best thing about this list is his target share compared to his peers.

Thomas - 49 Targets

Nabers - 60 Targets

Harrison Jr. - 50 Targets

Coleman - 34 Targets

Coleman isn't being force fed the ball like Nabers is.  In fact, there is only ONE receiver in the league with less targets but more yards, and that's AJ Brown.  Crazy stuff from a rookie

In retrospect, the 1 spot drop which got us a 5 for 6 swap may not have been a great deal, cause we don’t get the 5th yr option on Coleman now.

As an aside, I watched a bit of Legette yesterday. He doesn’t have nearly as much polish as Coleman.

dude is a playmaker; still not sure he is a "true" #1 WR.  Would like to keep Cooper around for another year, but barring that, need to draft a true 1.  Cooper/other WR 1 would be a great tandum to have for the 2nd half of Allen's career.

agreed.  Then go big sometimes (short yardage, etc), put in Knox and Davis (for Cook).

I agree that Coleman is not your prototypical X receiver even if he has some, but not all, of the same traits. He is tall and he has good ball skills. But of course he is not a burner and never will be. That is the difference skill set wise between him and Calvin Johnson. So I agree that the Bills would do well to draft and develop that guy assuming he is not already in the system. Maybe sign Coop to a two year deal (although I think he will probably be looking for three). Having a guy like that will only make Keon that much better. Can you imagine this O with a BTJ?

Sometimes I think the #1 / #2 terminology can be a bit misleading even if it is often more or less accurate. According to that thinking Fitz was the #1 and go to guy (though working from the slot after Arian's moved him inside) and Boldin was the #2. To me it's better to acknowledge that each player was dominant within his assigned role in the Cards offence. Each one made the other a lot better and both are in the HOF.

its very gratifying to see the growth of the Bills WR corps. Just speaking for myself the thing that I find just as gratifying is the work that Beane and Kromer have done with the O-line. I feel as though I have been waiting a long time to finally see that.

If I recall correctly, a lot of us with cautiously optimistic expectations for Keon predicted about 600 yards for the season. If he stays healthy, he's pretty much a lock to meet and likely exceed those numbers by a fair margin.

Yep.  As of this morning, he's projected to finish with a little less than 850 yards.  That's a heck of a rookie season if it comes to fruition.

I believe Keon sort of turned the corner yesterday. He put together a really complete game and did a lot of things he hadn’t done before, including catching that fade and that seam ball.

I actually can see him using the game to catapult himself to that top tier. His confidence is growing!

Him going out of his way to block the guy into the bench was a sign to me that he wants to be a complete team player. Was it totally smart? I think it its likely to get flagged in the future. But I like the motivation behind it.

Bills should be giving him more slants and quick screens. Other than the one that bounced off his head those have been automatically 8+ yards. Compare that to Samuel or Diggs last year that turned those same plays into negative yards.

Seattle shaded him heavy inside.  Still found a way to make plays.  He took his frustration out on them in the run game.  His physically came through.  Very impressive.  Seattle shadowing him with Woolen shows the respect they had for him.  His ability to make the largest db in the league seem average at best is worth noting.

He’s already out performing my expectations.  I’m pretty darn impressed with what he’s managed to do thus far.

That was a message to every corner tasked with pressing him all season.  He also de cleated Woolen off the line on another run play.  Back to back weeks he physically ran through press zone for 20 plus yard plays.  He is becoming a big problem for defenses.

Good take about messaging future corners. I forget the score at that point, but in a blowout game, that's the best time to risk a penalty to deliver such a message. And his teammates loved it. And Deon praised it after the game.

Is 4th in receiving yards an accomplishment?

just asking for a friend.

Considering he's the 3rd (at best) option on this team, yeah!

BTJ, Nabors and MH Jr are all primary targets on the respective teams.

I dont think that was his intention.  When they were on the sideline and the corner was trying to catch him letting up, thats when he decided to throw him.  Everyone on the team had to love it.  Come film today everyone will see it and love it.  Come film in Miami today they will take notice.

It got flagged yesterday, but they also flagged the DB for retaliation so they were offsetting, and because it was after the whistle, the play stood.
