When hired the Giants thought Daboll could develop Jones like he did Allen. Looks more like Allen made Daboll more than the other way around.

Anybody with two brain cells to rub together knew that was the case the whole time. if you know football, you know josh allen is a unicorn.

You need both.

A talented QB AND a competent coach. There are plenty of examples of talented QBs being ruined by bad coaching, and plenty of examples of competent coaching getting canned due to bad QB play.

Daboll has proven numerous times he can win when he has a good QB. Not everyone can.

And let's not even think about what might have been had we been stuck with Rick Dennison at OC for multiple seasons after 2017.

Schoen/Daboll's big mistake was sticking with Jones after they made the playoffs their first year. Should have continued the plan to blow it all up and make it their own, like McBeane did in Buffalo in 2018.

Must have happened with Mara.

Now, if you're interviewing with the other  NYC football team, it helps that that owner is Rube Goldfish.

Honestly they shouldnt have signed either.     Barkley is playing well now because teams cant load the box against him.  With the Giants he was averaging under 4 yards a carry and missed an average of 4 games a year.   The Giants were not the type of team to be in a position to spend 12.5 million dollars a year on a running back, especially a 27-year-old running back with an injury history.    That said, the Jones contract doomed them.

What they should have done was not signed either of them and used the 52 million they would have saved to bring in Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield, or Sam Darnold and looked to draft a younger quarterback as soon as possible.

A bit of revisionist history here.  Yes of course they should have signed Baker, Darnold of Cousins, all of them having spectacular years, especially Darnold.

Daboll is a prime example of why someone like Ben Johnson is being selective about where he will work.  I think Daboll is an excellent coach who players like to play for.   Had he went to an organization where he got to help choose his QB he would have been much better off.   Now he is a career .398 coach who will be looking for his next job soon.

Sentence 1 :  Wrong

Sentence 2:   Way wrong

Sentence 3:   No reason to believe that

Sentence 4:   Sounds right

The irony is that they come from an organization that took a risk by getting rid of the quarterback who got them into the playoffs...a guy who was good but not good enough.  With the Giants they didn't have the courage to jettison Danny Dimes because he helped them have some success.

There’s a good chance that Joe Brady gets a HC next year.  Assuming Daboll gets canned, got to think he would come back as OC.  I know he and McD didn’t get along, but Josh loves him.

Who was the last OC with one good year that got hired as an HC?

Don’t know, but Brady’s name is on all the short lists for top HC candidates.  Teams love the young, offensive minded coaches for HC

I believe Beane would bring back Joe Schoen if he was fired.  I don't believe McD will bring back Daboll.  Check out the post game handshake between McD and Daboll as exhibit A.  McD couldn't get out of there fast enough.

They do but they still very rarely get hired after 1 good year.

Callahan was the OC in Cincy and it took 3 years of Burrow and him for him to get a shot.

Daboll was the OC in Buffalo for 3 years.

McDaniel and Canales are the only 2 that come to mind and neither had a Josh Allen type at their previous stops.

We played this game 12 weeks in with Dorsey about how many HC jobs he was gonna get and he ended up fired and taking an OC job in name only getting Stefanski coffee.

yes they had a ton of goodwill capital after that first year and they completely squandered it.

Why do people keep thinking this is a possibility? First of all, why would you even want it? Daboll’s offenses without Josh have sucked. Yes, Daboll helped Josh meet his potential but Josh made him look better than he was. McD was not a fan of his by the end. Their handshake after the Giants game was FROSTY. I think there was a lot of push back from Dabs when McD told him to run the ball more. McD now has the offense he wanted. There’s zero chance Daboll comes back as OC.

Looks like the infamous Schoen quote is making the rounds again after another Barkley performance...

Dead Man Walking.

It isn't exactly fair to beat him to death with this, if they'd kept Barkley would their offense be better sure, would they be a good football team, no.

Barkley is having such a massive year because yes he's a great player, but also because he's now on a team that has other pieces around him that also work. It's weird how now on an offense with an average to decent QB with some weapons to throw to he's even more effective. Even better for him on the Eagles is he's still clearly the best offensive player.

If he'd stayed with the Giants it'd be the same old story they'd have run him into the ground again and teams would focus on him.

The amount of GMs that could potentially be good at their jobs but get fired before ever finding out due to inability to procure a quality quarterback is crazy.

Makes you wonder where Brandon Beane would be if the Bills had missed out on Allen and had to settle for, say, Josh Rosen or Mason Rudolph.

Getting the QB is really THE thing for a GM. If he hits on a QB, especially a REALLY good one, he's got job security for quite a while. If he doesn't? Back to the unemployment line.

Crazy thing with Schoen and Daboll is it seems they may not even get the chance to pick a guy. I mean...they re-signed Daniel Jones to a big contract, so I guess that counts, but...sheesh.

I wonder what would have happened had the Chargers given the job to Daboll instead of Staley. If there is a QB in the league with lots of similar physical traits like JA, its Herbert
