This is completely wrong. He has cap hits of $20M through 2026 then it escalates to $37M. Oh, and there's also 4 void years already tacked onto the end of his contract 😂

Does an acquiring team assume the void years as well? Or do those accelerate to the dead cap hit of the original team?

1st 2nd and Kair Elam they’ll be looking for young talent back

If you’re throwing a young player in I’d be more inclined to give either AJ or Groot. Whoever they choose.

That’s just me as it might trigger them to agree given a reasonable talent at the same position with draft picks is headed their way to replace.

Don’t they need secondary help? I think it’s a weakness for them the upside of Elam might intrigue them

Ward/Newsome/Emerson are their corners. Delpit/Hickman/Thorhill the safeties.
The secondary isn’t that bad, but you take away Garrett they only have Zadarius Smith producing pressure from the edge. He’s getting up there in age.

In Blue is the money the Bills would be responsible for, and the cap hit of base salary. In Orange is the money the Browns already paid in a signing  bonus. In Yellow is money that gor restructured into a bonus to drive his salary cap down (I think) that the Browns have already paid.

They don't need any of the Bills young players, they need draft and cap relief. Buffalo can provide the picks but not the cap relief

Yeah. I get that. The point was if they’re taking on a player it wouldn’t be Elam, who was suggested, but rather someone at the position Garrett is leaving…

Trade isn’t happening. We aren’t likely to be giving up the assets or finances. Still can be a hypothetical to chat about.

No, I am done giving up a ton of assets for the DL. Multiple high picks and a bunch of cap space that could be used building the offense around Allen. I know Garrett is a star but he is not going to be the reason this team wins a Super Bowl. Allen throwing to a boatload of weapons with great pass protection, that will be the reason. Whatever money Garrett would get next year, give it to Amari Cooper.

I think they will likely be focused on a 1 tech DT in round 1 whether they retain Cooper or not.  Daquan has become a liability in run defense and Bernard is the key to their defense at this point so they are going to justify it with the need to protect their one playmaker on D.   Big Deone Walker seems like a likely target.   If they didn't have a first they'd have to get more creative at DT1T which makes more sense than using a high pick on one and maybe ending up with Mazi Smith 2.0.

If you know they aren't going to go offense would that change your mind?   Garrett's cap numbers would be modest at least because you'd be paying the Browns in draft capital to eat those guarantees.   I'm not opposed to paying veteran edge and island difference makers.   Ultimately, I'd like to end up with a player like Garrett at DE and DK Metcalf opposite Coleman and Shakir.

with those contract numbers, if garrett is actually available, i'd just pay what it cost.

a couple of firsts, maybe a couple of 2nds.  if we have him for 3 years (including this one) for basically minimum, we can move stuff around to keep cooper if we want.

its early to say, but coleman does things with the ball in his hands that we have simply not gotten out of players.  him along w coop and shakir and the backs and tight ends gives us a mix of talent on O that legit exceeds anything we have had with allen on the team.  2020/2021 was nice w brown and beaz and diggs, but the oline was much worse than it is now, and our backs and tes were not a threat in anyway.

a super star dline is what mcd needs more than anything.  we've all talked about how he can make a secondary better than it really is, and it seems like we've been able to do that at LB as well.  our corners are actually a really good trio.

i'll say it again, garrett, miller, groot and oliver is not getting blocked at all on 3rd and long, we'd be able to get mahomes in the playoffs off of his super efficient streak vs our d, and lamar would have 3+ turnovers.  burrow would likely get hurt.

those are the 3 teams we have to beat to get to a super bowl, and it's hard to think of one additional player to add to the team that would get us there more than garrett.

I’d offer one sleeve of saltine crackers, and I had to borrow them from “House” at an unreasonable interest rate,

Maybe. I don't mind if they take an edge rusher in the 1st round, a 1T I would obviously not be happy with. It isn't just about this upcoming pick, it's about the total amount of draft capital and cap space we'd be devoting to Myles Garrett. Allen is about to get a big raise and we don't have a #1 WR on the books beyond this year. If we can afford Garrett without yet again sacrificing Allen's supporting cast then sure go for it but it feels like a trade off would be necessary.

My thought process is that we need to get past the Chiefs in the playoffs. Mahomes has gone against several elite pass rushers in their playoff runs, and really the TB loss was the only time it had an effect on their team. TJ Watt, Hassan Reddick, Nick Bosa - none of them have really made a difference. If the thought is that we need a closer on defense, I can get myself there. I still worry about the investment trade off though. I'm ready for a total philosophical switch where as much capital as possible is invested into building the best possible support system around Allen. I know edge rusher is a game changing position, but making yet another big investment in the DL would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Honestly, this is a good point.

Tampa Bay did it with a relentless pass rush, but the Chiefs were also down a bunch of OL in that game, right?

Cinci did it, not with dominant DL guys, but with a post-halftime Defensive gameplan hail mary that worked.

SF is the one I look at, where yea.. Bosa is on the level of Garrett and might as well not be out there against KC in the Playoffs.  And some of it is due to playoff officiating, which allows far more physical play and KC has been able to take advantage of that with their offensive line and defensive backs while everyone else just whines about it.

This is not the debate unfortunately. They are going to draft defense heavy like they always do. So the question is draft assets for Garrett or draft assets for JAG pluses in the draft.
