having said that the vibe of the chiefs is awfully similar to the eagles last year.  They were like 12-1 of whatever it was but they didn’t seem anywhere close to as good as the record indicated.   
 

 

 

If Purdy doesn't play like crap the Niners probably win. How many turnovers did he have in the red zone. Credit KC's defense but the Niners had their chances and Purdy messed up.

It will be interesting to see what the 49'ers do after the season with his contract.  He'll have been in the league for 3 years but he's a guy who is made to look better by those around him and not vice versa.  Losing Aiyuk will be a huge blow and make him look more like the last overall pick, I bet.

Aiyuk has been averaging like two catches a game and has zero touchdowns.  If they can’t overcome that they have some huge problems.

 

they blew a huge opportunity to get a bunch of draft capital for aiyuk after he sat out the offseason and pouted through training cap.  They gave in and paid him like a player he is not and he paid them back by playing terribly and now maybe out for the year.

Nah I dont agree. He gets criticized as a turnover machine but only loses like 3 games a year. The talk is ongoing all year after year.

Because professional sports is entertainment above everything else.  And for some weird reason, human beings seem to enjoy their sports way more when it is accompanied by compelling storylines and narratives.  

 

Just like movies and tv shows, every story needs a big star.  Someone who can be immediately associated with the letters N-F-L, and recognized worldwide by people that don't even watch football.  That person has been Tom Brady for the last 2 decades.  The torch has now been passed to Patrick Mahomes.  You won't see the sports media as a whole leveling any kind of significant criticism at the face of the NFL, because it's simply bad for business.

 

As it stands, the NFL's narrative is that Kansas City is the dynasty that cannot be stopped.  They have the golden boy QB.  They have the guy dating the pop superstar.  They obviously have the championships to back it up.  Yes, they could very easily have 2-3 losses this season.  But with the 49ers now behind them, talk will quickly start rolling of them going undefeated.  Now they have 31 other fanbases tuning in weekly hoping desperately for them to finally drop a game.  That's the power of a storyline.

 

Honestly, I also think the NFL wants a legitimate rival for the Chiefs and Mahomes.  They really want to see another Manning vs. Brady.  They have tried very hard to promote both Josh Allen and Joe Burrow, but neither has managed to seal the deal with a ring.  Once one of them does, I think the narrative will change and more respect will follow.

going to 4 of 5 SB's and willing 3 of them give him that grace......I dont disagree with this thread but winning SB's is what it is about.  Not to mention he has been bad this year yet they are 7-0....his defense is a big reason why.

This. No one is allowed and no one does. They will say negatives about Allen though. It’s not about football.

It is what it is … still early, but the Chiefs are 2 games up on the field with a relatively easy schedule.

 

Theyll make a move for a WR at some point soon. 
 

Mahomes will get the credit as long as they keep winning.  It will just be framed as “gritty”. 

 

Bye week and then only needing to win two games to get to the Super Bowl looking likely, unless the Bills or Ravens can go nuclear the rest of the way.  (Not a believer in Houston or Pittsburgh).

Not interception related but after seeing the Mahomes run along the sideline yesterday I hope defenders just start hammering him.  QB’s are protected as they’re going out of bounds but he uses that protection to make defenders let up, then he takes off.  Unless he’s out of bounds, treat him like a RB.

It's a dumb and uninteresting. If they were losing you can bet your a$$ that's what it would be. It was going that way last year for them early in the season. Then on the flipside Josh opened last year on a nationally televised game and literally gave the Jets the game. Costing us a win nearly singlehandedly. When elite QB's cause their team to lose the way Josh did that game it's usually a story.

No, it would be more like “ Chiefs continue to win, but is this sustainable with all the INTs ? “ . There is a discussion to be had there, and it would be had if it were Allen and the Bills. Your “ headline” is overly simplistic. We’re not talking about headlines here anyway, it’s discussion by NFL media both in-game and pregame shows etc. They clearly  have their untouchables that are shielded from criticism. Not really debatable at this point.
