JaCrispy Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) I would do it in a heartbeat…Ed Oliver is not the answer, while Jones is a HOFer…👍 Plus, you kill 2 birds with one stone by weakening the Chiefs and making Mahomes life a living hell… Edited October 17 by JaCrispy 1 Quote

It’s as easy to point out as he’s the reason why instead of being up 4 over KC at home with 2 minutes left, we had to trot out Bass for an ill-fated attempt to tie. He makes clutch plays like that over and over when it matters. Quote
Bockeye Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Beanie and/or his scouts are not the best at drafting WR’s and DE’s. Need to get lucky next draft. 1 1 Quote

Players like Chris Jones don't grow on trees I get that but what's infuriating is a guy like Travis Jones on the Ravens would have been perfect and he was a 3rd round pick. I was really hoping that was a guy we were going to snag in that draft and it drives me crazy every time I watch a Ravens game especially when it was against us. 2 Quote

But I also believe we would have beaten the Chiefs in the 13 seconds game if we had better coaching. This year something else stupid will probably happen. People tend to over exaggerate. The Bills in 2 of the last 3 years were arguably 1 play away each year from beating the Chiefs and being the SuperBowl favorites. The Chiefs were barely the better team. The difference for me is that in those critical moments either the coaching wasn’t up to par and play makers such as Chris Jones made an all world play to disrupt an eventual TD whereas our players like Diggs doesn’t come up with a play and Bass misses a FG he should make. We weren’t that far off and even in a mini rebuild year like this we are right there. 1 Quote

Matt_In_NH Posted October 17 Posted October 17 The bills don’t have a Chris jones so no argument there. However the difference is more confidence that they can always win and game management in tight situations. The chiefs are cocky in close games and expect to make plays to win. The bills all wait for someone else to step up and make a play. Allen has it but on defense it does not really exist. I’m talking when you play the chiefs type situations. Not the jets. And they have Butger. The lumber if games this team has lost to 57 plus you’re fgs compared to how many they have snatched that way (zero) is a big difference. 13 hours ago, frostbitmic said: If we had Jones or someone like him he'd only be on the field about 60% of the plays anyways and then he'd get hurt. ProcessTruster Posted October 17 Posted October 17 One difference between the Chiefs and every one of the other 31 teams is Chris Jones. he is one of a kind. Quote

frostbitmic Posted October 17 Posted October 17 So far I see ... 1. Andy Reid > McD 2. Patrick Mahomes - Best QB / Offensive player 3. Chris Jones - Best Defensive player in the game 4. Travis Kelce - Best TE in the game 5. Reliable Kicker We're very close at QB Quote

The Von year, yes. We're rebuilding a tad. I'd swing for the fences in a year we really think we can win a SB. Well if we swing for Crosby or Garrett I am pretty sure it would be so whoever they got stayed a while too...so that swing for the fence move would be about more than just 1 season, it would be a big move moving forward too. I would go get either of those guys myself, they are difference making players. Rams won the SB because the D ended the game and Bengals were only it because their D shut down Mahomes the 2nd half of the AFCCG. Chiefs won the SB last year because Jones blew a play up that Aiyuk was uncovered in the endzone, a game they were only in because Chris Jones blew up Dion against us on a would go ahead TD to Shakir. The fundamental lack of understanding on this board for just how important play makers are on Defense when you get into the playoffs and Super Bowl is wild. If you could draft Crosby or Garrett with our first round pick next year, 100% of all teams would make that selection. So all you are doing is paying an extra first to insure that the first round pick produces an elite player...considering 50% of first rounders bust anyways, that is an equal trade off. 2 firsts for a top of the league defensive difference maker. Its a no brainer if it can be done, especially considering our first are going to be almost 2nd's anyway. 1 Quote

TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) I don't think the Browns would trade Garrett . Sure he's worthless to their team this year but going forward I doubt they want to give up one of the best defensive players in the league . On that note, i've always been curious if teams could make a trade where they agree to trade back. So for example : Since Cleveland has no use for him this year, they agree to trade him to the Bills only for the remainder of the 2024 season, after which he goes back to Cleveland. Is that type of trade ever been made or even possible ? Edited October 17 by TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th Quote
Success Posted October 17 Posted October 17 It for sure was in January. Generally, I'd probably agree also - we have some nice pieces on defense, but no one who consistently disrupts the way Jones can. Quote
Success Posted October 17 Posted October 17 17 hours ago, Billl said: The best version of the modern era Bills was the 2022 squad prior to Von Miller’s injury. They were the best team in the league with a gap between them and anyone else. They had absolute studs in Allen, Von, Diggs, and White. That team could just line up and kick your ass, not because they had no weaknesses but because their elite talent could simply take over games. There were two conclusions that could have been drawn from that season. One was that the team should try to load up on superstars. The other was that the team shouldn’t have put so many eggs into so few baskets. Beane chose the latter. Now Josh is the only truly elite player on the roster, and they’re back to their old ways of beating lesser teams to a pulp while struggling against legit contenders. Keon Coleman is a perfectly good player, and he’s going to have a 10 year NFL career. If there’s some trait that he posseses that says he’s going to develop into a superstar, I’m missing it. Xavier Worthy is a twig. It is entirely possible that he won’t hold up physically in the league. But unless and until that happens, he is absolutely electric, and every single Defensive Coordinator is forced to adjust his game plan to account for the possibility that he could score from anywhere on the field at any given time. Brandon Beane passed on Worthy for Coleman because he was more worried about recouping the third round pick he traded away mid-season for a 30 year old CB (despite drafting a CB in the first round in 2022) than he was with finding a superstar in the first round. Now he’s traded a third round pick for a 30 year old WR (despite drafting a WR with his first pick in 2024). There is an alternate universe in which people talk about the 2022 Bills championship season saying that Von was unblockble, Tre was lockdown, and the Allen to Diggs combination was unstoppable. I simply can’t envision anyone ever looking back at the 2024 postseason saying that Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper were unguardable or that Rasul Douglas erased every elite WR he lined up against. This team is built to win the AFC East. It’s not built to win four straight games against the Texans, Ravens, Chiefs, and 49ers. The difference between the Bills and the Chiefs is Chris Jones…and Travis Kelce, and Trent McDuffie, and Rashee Rice and maybe Xavier Worthy. The Amaris and Jujus and Rasul Douglases and Kareem Hunts are important, but you can’t give up big time draft assets to backfill your roster. I doubt we were ever considering Worthy. By season's end (and with Cooper's addition), we'll get more out of Coleman than we would have w/ a speedster like Worthy. And I think Worthy is better for the Chiefs. But he will end up being more one-dimensional/gadgety, and we needed a guy who could potentially blossom into a true #1 or at worst 1b. With Cooper & the injuries to Rice and Brown, the Bills now have a significantly better WR room than the Chiefs. They're built to handle the playoffs and all of the teams you mentioned. I don't know how it will go this year, and Buffalo could certainly bow out by the divisional yet again, but I think it's a pretty middlin' year for the league in general and it's probably our best opportunity yet, if not our best team. We have as much of a chance as the Chiefs this year, imo. I get that KC is undefeated, but the optics haven't been quite as good as usual, and I don't think that WR corps is going to do it for them in January. They have the "aura" factor which is always an advantage, but the Ravens are a better team than both the Chiefs & Bills, who are relatively equal (and I'd say on the same level as Houston, also). Most of the playoff games between those teams will probably come down to a play or 2. Quote
