Beane isn't going to mortgage our future by throwing high value picks around, he just isn't. We're getting Von back soon and Milano in December... this team can only get better without sacrificing future high value picks. You don't think one of the 2nd round picks would be enough? Especially if Garrett is asking out? Would you give up one of those picks? Quote

Beane jettisoned the older players and bit the bullet cap wise and that is what great teams do. While it isn't perfect it is what we have to do to remain a force and not just grasp for shiny objects. I see what you're saying. It's a tough balance to stay competitive and also ensure you continue to be relevant in the future. But teams have gone all-in in the past. It didn't work for Washington many years ago when they were still the Redskins. They traded for every high end player they could get. It did work for the Rams, however, a few years ago. The Bills have been close to that peak for a few of the past several years, but always seem to be missing that one thing, or 2 things to get them over the edge. We fans have speculated what's missing, but we don't know. The Bills haven't figured out what that is yet and they'll likely never know until it happens. I guess what I'm saying is if they were to go after the "shiny object" I'd be perfectly o.k. with it. Quote

The Browns aren't. If he does move, it is not to the Bills during the season. That is incorrect. The Browns have been eeking out every cent they can on the salary cap. That means yearly restructures of salary into signing bonuses. As such, Garrett’s salary for the season is $1.2M. If traded, only the prorated portion of that amount would come with him. https://overthecap.com/player/myles-garrett/5585 Edited October 25 by BarleyNY 2 Quote
BarleyNY Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Heard that the Bills and Rams have called Cleveland about Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (aka Wu, JOK). He’d be the perfect long term Milano replacement IMO. No word on what was offered or Cleveland’s level of interest in trading him though. 1 2 Quote

colin Posted October 25 Posted October 25 positionally we need S, maybe LB, K, and DL more than anything. carter having a bum wrist and von coming back soon makes DT a greater priority than DE. but, what we actually need is a play maker/difference maker. i'd put buddah baker juuuuuuuuuuust below the top level of that for his position, which is a need, but garrett or crosby or simmons (if he's healthy) would make the bigger imact. garrett can fit under the cap easy for one season, after that all kinds of stuff is needed but we can move money around and the diggs, miller, knox, and milano contracts are gone after next year. an extension for josh is possible too. crosby is a bit younger, and imo a slightly better pure pass rusher, but garrett would also bring an insane physical presence that would super charge the D. i'd do 2 firsts for him in a heartbeat. if we can get him and cooper under contract after this year, it means we gave up 2 firsts, and a 3rd to swap diggs and miller for cooper and garrett. that's an absolute no brainer super move. we have a legit oline (bad at picking up blitzes games and simulated pressure, but that can be coached) i'd say top 5 or 10. garrett would but our dline over the top, making it a top 3 or 4 unit. football is about the big uglies, and getting mashed around by baltimore made me sick. w the ability to beat their corners outside and physical ability necessary to play a team like that with a light box, the rematch in the playoffs would look really really different. Meanwhile we spent a 3rd on Dorian Williams, who improves weekly, and he’d be depth. we’d have 3 good outside Lbs, none of which play the middle (Milano, JOK + Dorian) meanwhile we never play 3 LBs. 🤷🏻♂️ how this makes any sense. I LOVE Jeremiah, was praying we’d trade up for him in 2021, but stayed put and drafted Boogie 😢. But we still have to pay Rousseau, Bernard, Benford and Shakir. I’d love to add a MLB for this coming season for when Bernard inevitably misses time, but not in favor of trading for a LB that isn’t capable of playing the middle while also getting paid big bucks 21 minutes ago, BarleyNY said: Heard that the Bills and Rams have called Cleveland about Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (aka Wu, JOK). If you think Spector playing as a starter is going to do anything other than cost us games, you're welcome to live in that world. Milano and Bernard are both injury-prone at a very important position. Dorian Williams is not a backup, he is the only starter we have. We need someone like JOK just to field a healthy LB unit. You cannot advance in the playoffs with question marks at the most important position on D. JOK is owed around a million this year, trade for him and sort out who you keep for next year. He is NOT getting paid big bucks, the Browns would eat his bonuses upon a trade. 1 Quote
Cash Posted October 25 Posted October 25 4 hours ago, Logic said: I think the key part of the Amari Cooper trade that doesn't get talked about enough is that if the Bills DO let him walk next year, they could very likely receive a third round compensatory pick in return, meaning they would've essentially gotten him for the 2024 season in exchange for $800k and dropping, say, 12 spots in the 3rd round. It was literally the PERFECT deal for Beane: Low financial compensation, with a shot to either re-sign the player next year or re-coup the pick he used to acquire him. Garrett would not be that. Garrett would be sending multiple high picks and making him the highest paid defender in NFL history. I just don't see how people think that's a realistic thing that the Bills are likely to do. I think the max we could get is a 5th rounder, due to Cooper being a 10 year vested vet. Going from memory and didn't look up the specifics, but it's been reported by pretty reliable sources so I'm going with it unless/until proven wrong. Tim Graham had a good article in The Athletic this week that talked about the possibility of re-signing Cooper. My initial impression is that it's somewhat of a long shot but not unrealistic. Cooper is openly a warm-weather guy, which doesn't help our potential case. And I doubt we'll have the salary cap-ability to outbid anyone for him, and maybe not even match any offer. A lot of that depends on how he does this year, obviously, and can get a little paradoxical. The better he does, the higher the price tag, obviously. But the lower the price tag, the less likely that we actually want him back. My best case hope is that he finds that playing with Allen and for a contender is worth enough to overcome both the weather and the money, and signs a 1-2 year deal for an amount we can afford. In summary, I'm glad that Beane announced that there will be no contract talk until the season is over. Let's see how it plays out, see what the market for Cooper's services looks like, and see if there's mutual interest from both sides. 1 Quote

Garrett's a great player but not worth 2 1sts; he has far too many red flags on his character just for starters. I'd be looking for a cheap vet DT to fill Carter's hole and cover for any future injury to Oliver or Jones Look into Buddha Baker but safety is generally ok but we may need more big play ability if our LBs keep ending up hurt. We essentially flipped a 3rd rounder for a 5th and Cooper, presuming we don’t retain him. Like you referenced in his weather preference, when we traded for him; or any player for that matter I wondered how the performance will be when it’s 40° or colder. Quote

Wu is special. Williams is limited. Also I’d note that Wu would be dirt cheap this season due to the Browns restructuring his salary. 1 Quote

The Browns aren't. If he does move, it is not to the Bills during the season. The acquiring team takes a less than 900k hit for Garret's 2024 number. His guaranteed $ over the next 2 seasons is quite low as well. We could handle his contract. He'd likely have his contract re-done and extended if we were to invest Two 1sts in him, which I believe is what the ask will be I think Za'Darius Smith makes a lot more sense and is far more realistic. His cap number for acquiring team is also around 900k. He has a 15.8 hit next year, which we could handle Unfortunately, we don't usually seem interested in adding the type of player he is. A team like the Ravens or Lions will though Edited October 25 by Warriorspikes51 1 Quote
ndirish1978 Posted October 25 Posted October 25 FTR Carter is now on IR. I dunno what DTs are out there for us, but we need one desperately. Carter was playing well and Jones and Oliver are really not. 1 Quote
Alphadawg7 Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Are there any actual links between Bills interest and any specific players right now? I am still hoping for Budda Baker personally, but a LB would make sense also given neither Bernard nor Milano can stay on the field. I am not so much worried about DT unless we were able to make a move for a significant DT like Simmons who I was banging the drum for during the draft in the first place. 1 Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Sebastian Joseph-Day looks like a realistic good option, we did have him in for a visit and he is having a strong season 1 Quote
