Trade Deadline

I would bet that the Buffalo Bills don't think they have a problem at Safety.

I would also bet that their opinion of that position group is higher than most of the Safety naysayers who post here.

I believe that McBeane means it when they say that football games are won in the trenches.

Because of this I would guess that if the Bills make any more moves, that they will be on the defensive line or at linebacker, before safety.

What I want more than anything is a DT who is stout against the run and can push the pocket and create pressure on the QB.

They were so happy with their safety group in April that they punted on selecting a WR in the first so they could ensure they grabbed a safety in the second round.

Watch how many times they let Hamlin play centerfield and see how high their opinion is.

Yes, drafting Cole Bishop is exactly one of the reasons that they're happy with this position group.

Everyone knows that Bishop will be a starter some day... which makes trading for another safety nonsensical... especially with Mike Edwards also in the mix.

Basically many posters here are unhappy that Damlin is starting... they think they know better than the coaching staff.

I don't know better than the coaching staff and have faith that changes will be made in the starting lineup when they're merited.

By this logic, they would have been happy with the WR group even if Coleman wasn’t able to start.

We all know that’s not true. They weren’t happy with the group even with their high draft pick playing right away.

There’s still plenty of time for Bishop but I don’t think they drafted him thinking he wouldn’t be able to crack the starting lineup early.

Regarding Coleman, if you told the Bills that your crystal ball said that he wouldn't able to start right away the Bills would have assumed an injury, or a veteran player deserving the starting spot more. Happy or not isn't relevant.

Regarding Bishop, do you think the Bills thought that he would get injured on July 30th and not return to practice until September 4th?

I don't see a trade happening that looks like we're "going all in" this season. I dunno why people are out here pretending this past draft wasn't just looking to the future with a plan of taking our medicine, trying to field a competitive team while resetting our cap situation. We got rid of a bunch of higher priced vets while looking to reload with cheaper, younger players. I don't think they expected the rest of the division to look so weak 1/3 of the way through the season and now they are looking to see if we can pick up a few lower cost vets to shore up the D and make a run in the playoffs. The offense is too streaky and the defense is too porous to think we're only a player or two away from winning the SB. I hope our Offense can get it together and learn how to play a consistent game, but I don't think we have the horses on D to do much: not enough team speed, not good enough on the line and always leave the middle of the field wide open. We have beaten pretty bad teams and lost to the good ones we've played. This week should tell us a lot about what kind of team we have cause the Seahawks are pretty good.

Bills fans are excited and expectant of another move because Brandon Beane said the following on the Pat McAfee show after the Amari Cooper trade:

"We had been having conversations quietly with a couple teams just seeing where they were at.. We talked to the Browns again on Sunday night & things got hot & heavy yesterday morning. We're still all in and we've still got a few weeks until the trade deadline.. We have been all in all along and we're gonna do everything we can to win this thing."

That sounds like a GM who hasn't ruled out another trade to bolster the team's chances.

am I missing something here? Why would the Jags trade Walker for a mid round pick?

IMO sounds more aggressive than the usual commentary from Beane.  Maybe just maybe we can bring in another difference maker?

I guess this was supposed to quote me?

“Happy or not isn’t relevant” but you just said:

Is being happy relevant or no?

I’m just saying, when we came to camp, our two weakest position groups to my eye were WR and safety.

During the season, our two weakest position groups to my eye were WR and safety. Despite the Bills spending a second round pick in both groups.

I was gaslit for months that the WR’s were fine and the Bills were happy at WR, then Brandon Beane called about every WR on the market and made a trade for a 30 year old guy to desperately upgrade the position. Again, something that was obvious in JULY.

So yeah. I think the safety room is not good. I think Rapp has been better than Hamlin, but I don’t think Rapp is very good and I think Hamlin is bad. I think the Bills know this because they are petrified to run any single high, which indicates the level of trust in their safeties.

Will the Bills make a move? I don’t know.

What I do know is if Bishop had taken the job by now, would I feel better about the safety room? Yes. I also feel that if Bishop had taken the starting job, the Bills would feel better about that group as well. I don’t think the Bills took Bishop that high to be a starter in 2025 at the earliest. Maybe they did, but the point stands that that doesn’t help us in 2024.

If BB says we're going All in wouldn't that have to mean get everything(most impactful) you can obviously within the cap. In this scenario wouldn't the best option be Myles Garrett?  Or is there someone else that's available that would Trump that move ...Then what's the most you'd give up for him? A 1st?

The Browns can get a ton more for Garrett than any other player on that team, but there is no way they would do it. Beane isn't going to mortgage our future by throwing high value picks around, he just isn't. We're getting Von back soon and Milano in December... this team can only get better without sacrificing future high value picks.

I'm sure Beane has learned from the Von Miller fiasco, which looked plausible, even shrewd at the time but may go down as one of the worst signings in Bills history.

No, I would welcome a trade of a fourth-rounder or lower for a safety, linebacker, pass rusher, or kicker, but the Bills have only one house to mortgage. They should invest not in current stars but in young players who might develop into stars, starting with their own players.

While I agree that Garrett might be too pricey for the Bills current salary situation, constantly doing things to protect the future has only gotten the Bills far enough to make the playoffs and win a playoff game or two. kicking the can down the road and no SB in 50+ years is giving me a real sour taste. At some point you have to live in the now! When will that be? Next year? 2 years? The old Bills fan mantra "there's always next year", makes me nauseous now.

This would not be a Von Miller scenario. Garrett is 28 years old and was just DPOY.  He is the exact type of player we would hope to draft high (we will never be high enough to draft one in Josh's era). He would change our defense for years. If he is actually available (I have doubts), you make this work imo

Any good ideas for potentially upgraded the DT position?   Simmons is very very unlikely.

How about former Bill  DT Quinton Jefferson?   I know he wasn't great while here, but he'd be a decent rotational DT at least.

He has 6 sacks last year in 14 games with NYJ.  He is currently on the Browns

DE Za'Darius Smith +  DT Quinton Jefferson as a package would be quite helpful to us

Raiders DT John Jenkins is 35, but a massive space eater

DT Linval Joseph, Bill last year is now 36 but on the Cowboys.  Maybe they'd be willing to move him for a 6th?

Broncos DT D.J. Jones, ESPN thinks he could be moved due to being in the last year of his deal.  If Denver was willing to eat $, this would be a quality addition

IMO, unless Oliver returns to playing like he did last year and DaQuan Jones is healthy and playing how he's capable of in January,  it's going to be very difficult to beat top AFC teams

For all my criticism of McDermott, one thing I really admire about him is that he has built a winning team with overwhelmingly likable, high-character players.

I have zero interest in a guy who tried to bash a QBs head in with his own helmet, and then later lied about said QB calling him a racial slur in order to justify his awful behavior. He can stay in Cleveland and hang out with the masseuse enthusiast.
