I dimly remember when we called him Bass-o-matic.

Bills best kickers, while in Buffalo:

Steve Christie - 78.3

Rian Lindell - 83.3

Dan Carpenter- 86.5

Steven Hauschka - 82

Tyler Bass is only at 84.1

Not justifying trying to keep him, just something to consider. Bills have very little history of elite kicker production for more than 1-2 seasons.

That stat is a bit misleading - it relies on previous season data that isn't indicative of the current state of affairs.  It also fails to take into account how kicking has greatly improved around the league as technique has changed.

This season, Bass hasn't hit from 50+ and he has shanked several kicks that demonstrate he's a head case.  He is 9 of 12 this season on FGA which puts him at 75%.

Another guy with a huge leg and poor accuracy.

I think elite leg strength is overrated if you can’t control it. Rian Lindell didn’t have a super powerful leg, he was just accurate and consistent.

84% in college is not poor accuracy from what I can gather based on most college kickers

What does this mean? NOTHING.  many kickers careers have ended or ended dearly because they just loose "it"    He lost it. Time to move on.

This is probably why he hasn't been cut yet.  Well, this and his contract.

But Bass is only 75% this season (tied for 30th in the NFL) and seemed to fall into a funk at the end of 2023.

That is the case with Hauschka, Carpenter.

What it means is damn, this kid’s year 2 and 3 is probably one of the best we ever had.

Agreed. Not trying to justify keeping him, if anything it’s amazing how good he was year 2 and 3.

I like that it's not a retread. He's truly an unknown and could end up great. You never know with these kickers.

I totally agree with this, and his a 61 yd winner in an upset win last year.  This is exactly the type of swing we need to take. Bass has to go.

Bass is literally 8/17 (47%) from 40 and beyond starting from the London game last year and including playoffs.

This is not acceptable.

Is this true?  If so, that's insane

I would think, if his tryout went well, they'll add him to the PS.  Can't cut Bass, due to his contract structure, but can IR him when he hurts his groin in practice.  Add this guy and a safety (Hyde, Baker,,,,,) and we're looking very strong

He had a lower than desired percentage of made FGs on attempts under 40 yards (83% vs 90% or better).  Also had a fairly high percentage of kickoffs that did not make the endzone.  The trajectory of his kicks tend to be lower than is thought desirable.  Let the buyer beware.  Still, he has some potential.
