For some comparison… Gabe Davis new deal is $13m a year … and the talk is that the Bills will get a 4th …of course as we found out last year … until the NFL awards the picks no one can be really sure 

 

 

In the case of Cooper, being a 10 year veteran, it isn't just based on the contract he signs. In the comp pick formula, 10 year veterans do not exceed a 5th Round Pick in compensation if lost. So, yes, that is the ceiling and no, it cannot be higher.

Even when Cooper was in his prime, there was not one poster on this board who would have put Cooper on the same level as Diggs.  Just looking at their Approximate Value ratings from Pro Football Reference, Cooper’s career best was 11.  Diggs has ranged from 12-15 the past 5 seasons.  Cooper has had a great career, and he’s going to help the Bills, but if he were currently better than prime Diggs, he’d have cost a whole lot more than $800k and a late third round pick.  

 

 

 

 

 

The bolded is just an outright abomination of a statement.  Maybe you don’t remember Diggs prior to joining Josh.  Or maybe you don’t remember Cooper very well.  Cooper was absolutely seen as a better player by many, if not, his equal or on the same level.  Diggs, playing without an elite QB, made zero pro bowls. Cooper, playing without an elite QB made 4.

I mean it's a pretty iffy argument to make what with the age difference when they got here but there is an argument to be made that Cooper does have 6 1000+ yard seasons with some pretty hit or miss QB play to Diggs 2 before getting here.

BTW 1st read percentage is compiled by PFF as part of the data package that real NFL teams pay thousands of dollars for. It isn't a fake stat just because you don't understand it. They're also very generous with how they assign a 1st read to a play - if 3 WRs are bunched to one side and the QB throws to any one of those WRs, they call that a 1st read throw even though technically it could have been the 2nd WR the QB went to on that side.

 

Watch the all-22 footage from this year, or find one of the accounts on Twitter that compiles clips. The WRs are not separating consistently. Allen regularly has nowhere to go with the ball. It was especially evident against the Jets. It isn't because of his decision making, it's because the talent in the room stinks. Beane has admitted that by trading for Cooper. Why can't you do the same?

I'd say there was a possibility for the WR room to work but it was too thin to sustain the injuries that it has. Samuel taking an arrow to a toe tragically makes me think we never even got to see what it was supposed to look like. But beyond that the whole everyone eats thing relies on everyone being at their best to stretch the defense. But a hobbled Samuel and then Shakir is out then coming back from injury so defenses can focus on a rookie WR who has had some moments but that's an awful big ask, and if it's not him it's the legion of average and the plan was never to ask them to do that much.

 

Big reason why this trade is so nice is Cooper doesn't even have to be as great as he's been just good and we can stretch teams out some more.

With the addition of Cooper, I'd sit Samuel until he's ready.  Cooper and Coleman/Hollins on the outside, Shakir in the slot and then sprinkle in TEs and RBs.

The Watson trade has to be the worst trade in NFL history. The Browns gave up 3 first round picks plus 3 additional picks in rounds 3-4 to get back Watson whose fully guaranteed contract has two more years on it. The Browns at best can get out of Watson's deal in 2026 by having him do a post June 1st release which would still leave his dead cap hit at 76 million while pushing 26.9 of dead cap into 2027.

I have watched Amari since his college career. If he is healthy he is excellent. I think that many Bills Fans will be shocked at how good his hands are and how easily he gets open.

I don't think it takes anything away from the move or enjoying him on the team this year to review all the ramifications and possibilities of the trade.

 

I'm sure we all want him to be successful and re-sign with the team in the Offseason. But looking at all angles of the deal doesn't make anyone less of a fan of the team, Cooper, or the move.

 

It's good to know that either:

 

a.) Cooper re-signs with the team after this season and is a long term piece of the team.

 

or

 

b.) He was a one year rental at the cost of a 3rd in 2025 and a 7th in 2026 in exchange for a 6th in 2025 and a 5th in Compensation for 2026.

The placement on those slants was all terrible but yea a bunch of those were on coop.  Its gotta be hard to get in a rhythm playing with Watson because there were so many targets that were frustratingly terrible throws that aren’t seen here

He's a very smart vet that gets open. That helps Josh. He'll get enough of the playbook in to make a difference and start. I think. He’s a known low key guy like that.  I’m sure he’s thrilled he got traded and can work his way towards a big contract next year  Watson was costing him a lot of money lol
