Cut Bass already

the GW FG was a decent kick, actually.  The wind was blowing strongly to Bass's left, so he had to angle it to the right.  It wasn't as close to the right upright as the straight on highlight makes it look.  If anything, the kick was low and he was lucky it wasn't blocked.

Just as bad as the missed kicks were, was his last kickoff with 3 minutes left.  He kicked off from the 50 (NYJ personal foul on previous play) and presumably the Bills wanted him to kick it to the 5 yard line or so, so they could pin them back deep.  He kicked it 5 yards into the end zone.  Bass was holding his head in disgust and Mcdermott was screaming at him (could see this in the stadium).

I would expect a kicker will be signed to the PS

The guy can’t make kicks. What is hard to understand about that not being acceptable

He can and has made kicks. You are making an exaggerated claim, like due to being in your feelings, and not thinking this through.

He hasn't been good. But we take a big hit for cutting him, and there isn't a clear upgrade path where the guy we bring in is better to justify the financial pain.

9/12 is 75% which puts him at 28th in the league

I didnt say it was good, but he can make kicks. You guys act like theres a 5% chance he will make a kick.

As compared to the other top kickers, sure he is less accurate, but we are talking 1-2 kicks over 6 games. The amount of angst the fans have over this is crazy.

Bass's 4.4mm active cap hit turns into 4.3mm dead cap if we release him saving 100k against the cap for the current season. We'd also eat a 3.1mm dead cap for 2025

With just over 3mm in available cap space, can we find a better kicker that'll sign in the 2-3mm range?

The answer is probably yes. It doesn't need to be a guy that kicked in the NFL before. The Cowboys signed a professional soccer player that spent 20 games in the USFL and he's one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history (with a small sample size to be sure).

Bass has been a disaster since the Giants game last year. He cost us multiple games last year and will cost us games this season, it's only a matter of time.

The answer is almost certainly yes. You'd be hard pressed to not do better, whether it be someone with experience or a player who has never kicked a ball in the NFL. Bass is one of the worst kickers I can recall seeing. He's been toast and things are not salvageable. Bring in somebody, anybody before he predictably costs us our season.

Does anybody know where Bass lives? Time to give him a "Booth Lustig" on his way home, because he deserves it. 🙂

Not even funny because if his address was ever made public, there would be some mafia ahole, who would attempt  something like this.

You have to eat the dead cap and find a replacement that's an upgrade and both of those things are going to be a problem at this stage of the season.

You can't just say "You have to".

1. This isn't a spend issue. It is a cap room issue and there is no room.

2. I don't think there is anybody who falls into the category of "obviously better".

But if you just speak in generalities I guess anything is possible.

Didn't Bills fans trash Leodis McKelvin's yard after he fumbled a kick return against the Pats.

Really sad and embarrassing moment for Bills "fans".

Take 13 seconds for example. Do you believe Bass makes the kick that Butker made to send it to OT? Bass may have numbers that suggest he is able to make a kick, but zero confidence he’ll make a gotta have it kick. He’s destined to be Scott Norwood in the SB. They’re in a tough spot and probably stuck with him, for now. Hoping it finds his way, we need him too.

Bass isn't Butker. Butker is one of the best kickers in the league. No argument there.

Should the Bills look to every position in which they don't have an Allen, Butker, Gardner, Justin Jefferson? Absolutely.

Should they cut a guy who is not been very good mid season to replace him with somebody worse because they aren't Harrison Butker? No.
