transplantbillsfan Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I honestly came on here this morning expecting news Bass was cut. Yesterday's game should have been the straw that broke the camel's back. When he went up to kick that 47 yard FG I said he was going to miss it and went to the bathroom. Joe Marino's take on this is that you don't want to move on from one inconsistent kicker to another inconsistent kicker. The problem is that Bass is pretty consistent... just consistently inaccurate. Please cut him and eat the contract already. He WILL cost us again in the playoffs. 4 5 1 Quote
Big Turk Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) Can't. Will cost 7.3 million in Dead Cap that we already don't have plus paying his replacement on top of that. People really should understand where the Bills are against the cap and the ramifications before posting wild ideas about cutting everyone and trading for everyone. Warcodered Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) Joe Marino is right, he might miss a kick or two, but I'd rather have that right now than have nobody and desperately pick up a guy that misses 3 or 4. Always better to have a plan. Edited October 15 by Warcodered 4 1 6 1 Quote
Brandon Posted October 15 Posted October 15 You have to eat the dead cap and find a replacement that's an upgrade and both of those things are going to be a problem at this stage of the season. 4 Quote
Success Posted October 15 Posted October 15 It's a tough situation right now. I mean, even that last one was veering hard right - it looked like it would have missed if we were even 5-10 yards further out. Confidence is everything w/ kickers, and Bass doesn't seem to have much of that right now. Quote
Slippery Rubber Mats Posted October 15 Posted October 15 Who is better out there? You are going to take a kick in the ass with dead cap and money owed if you release Bass, so you need it to be an upgrade on what you have for it to make sense. Lots of people in their emotions on this but not thinking it through 1 Quote
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) It’s inexcusable to have him on the roster beyond yesterday. People thinking there’s nobody better. The guy absolutely sucks. He’s missed 2 kicks that were the 2 worst kicks I have ever seen a professional kick. It’s not sound logic to act like nobody can be better. Yes they absolutely can be. He’s not capable enough of kicking in the NFL right now and it’s going to cost us games. You can not rely on him. Flat out. That’s it. There’s no grey area. There’s no sensible argument to keep him. K D Posted October 15 Posted October 15 The Jets kicker missing those kicks saved Bass' job unfortunately. They will blame it on the conditions. 2 Quote
jethro_tull Posted October 15 Posted October 15 The Bills should engage with teams for kicker trade prospects prior to the trade deadline. They cannot afford to head into post season with their current kicker. Quote
ChevyVanMiller Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I wonder if they've considered a sports psychologist? He has proven in the past to have the leg necessary to be a top-flight NFL kicker. The current problems seem to be between the ears. Quote

thenorthremembers Posted October 15 Posted October 15 And sign who? Do you want to cut the kicker, sign another and use all but a million dollars of your available cap on managing kickers? Its a terrible situation to be in but cutting Bass could literally inhibit your ability to bring in a wideout in a trade. I get it, he's bad. But this should have been taken care of in March and April. 1 Quote

DabillsDaBillsDaBills Posted October 15 Posted October 15 Bass's 4.4mm active cap hit turns into 4.3mm dead cap if we release him saving 100k against the cap for the current season. We'd also eat a 3.1mm dead cap for 2025 With just over 3mm in available cap space, can we find a better kicker that'll sign in the 2-3mm range? The answer is probably yes. It doesn't need to be a guy that kicked in the NFL before. The Cowboys signed a professional soccer player that spent 20 games in the USFL and he's one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history (with a small sample size to be sure). Bass has been a disaster since the Giants game last year. He cost us multiple games last year and will cost us games this season, it's only a matter of time. Quote
TheyCallMeAndy Posted October 15 Posted October 15 The only kicker on the market without terrible numbers is Riley Patterson, who has bounced around a ton despite solid performances. He’s also cousins with AJ Epenesa. Quote
