For this season the Buffalo Bills lost a very experienced Center who calls the offensive line protections. The O line was a cluster fluck against the Ravens and the Texans saw this and attempted to get pressure on Allen as well.

Against the Ravens 3 sacks and 8 QB hits and against the Texans 1 sacks, 9 QB hits, and 16 knockdowns this season. In the past the Buffalo O line has done a great job of protecting Josh and in these last two games not so much. I'm not going to put it all on Center Connor McGovern, although he needs to take some blame.

What we know is that if hurried and harrassed at the start of a game Josh Allen can start having missed throws and the OC just doesn't have enough experience to know this and get him settled down asap. Short, quick throws, underneath stuff, Call some QB runs early. Aside from WR Khalil Shakir, all the WRs are new this season.

Now you would think that Josh would be looking at TE Dalton Kincade a whole bunch more, Knox too.

So, you could say all of the above, QB, OC, O line, and talent all contributed to two bad games. Now, three runs instead of 3 passes at the end of that Texans game, and things could have ended differently.

This NY Jets game on MNF will show us Bills fans that everyone on offense can get their stuff together... OR It could be a long season

I hated losing Morse much more than I disliked losing Diggs.

Almost all the offensive woes are traced back to having a defensive HC though. With an elite QB you want an offensive HC to pair with him, otherwise we have this revolving doors of OCs getting fired or hired as head coaches.

Then we are spinning wheels here.

Last time I’m saying this - if you want McD gone - it has to be asap bc you’re hiring coaches in Josh’s prime and you need more prime years if that doesn’t work out.

New guy gets what?  2-3 years?  Josh is now 30-31?  Still can attract everyone to coach him.

The current track is McD will be coach thru year 1 in new stadium.  Josh will be 30.

New coach comes in (if we have to) and that’s one shot with peak Josh - if he’s healthy then sure he can be elite post his age 34-35 seasons.

As a GM that wouldn't be how I’d operate.  Every year we aren’t all in is a waste.

Which makes the Diggs situation and the dead cap money it strapped us with this year - never mind a plan B without him completely unacceptable.

I tend to think that most of the problems are related to lack of talent at WR.  Until those guys prove they can consistently win their outside matchups,  defenses are just going to take their chances 1 on 1 and focus more on Kincaid and attacking the LOS.  It's all frustratingly predictable.  Brady may be part of the problem,  too,  but it's hard to be sure given what little he's working with and the dink-and-dunk stuff is out of necessity.

I was very critical of the process with Brady especially. He has never had success at the NFL level so how we didn’t even interview is completely beyond me

Even the hiring of Dabol was strange.  In his prior stints as an NFL OC, his offenses were ranked in the high 20s.

The more analysis I've seen of the last game the more I come away thinking Brady is a larger problem than previously thought. Nothing about our offense is crisp and nothing is innovative. The WRs aren't being coached to execute on scramble drills. The run scheme is basic. The OL still regularly gets confused on exotic pressure looks. The play calling is predictable. We have no counterpunch when defenses figure out what we want to do. There is a lot of high level offensive coaching throughout the league right now and we just don't have that unfortunately.

Not that I really blame Joe Brady. We intentionally did not invest much in the offense so the OC was always going to have his work cut out for him. And then we handed Brady the job without actively searching for better. The offense was set up to fail and now we see the entirely predictable result.

Perfectly said...unfortunately we're stuck with an underperforming defensive HC who puts the majority of his resources on defense.  And when those same defensive players don't pan out or are always injured it puts more pressure on Josh to be Superman. Other than maybe Belichick,  I would never want a defensive HC paired with Josh.  Go get Ben Johnson....

yeah unfortunately brady's playcalling sucks. It's predictable, and even if those throws behind the LOS work, they're only ever going to get 5 yards.  We'll ride this guy until it becomes impossible to hide the fact he sucks, then we'll go find another guy nobody has heard of off the scrap pile lather rise repeat

Our OC has not been putting our QB or WRs in positions to succeed. Our OL has not been giving our QB enough time to go through his progressions; as a result we have to leave our TEs and RBs back to block . Our WRs are dropping the passes thrown their way. Josh has been hit too much and doesn't trust that he has time to throw the ball.

I love winning the AFC East yearly, but I'm wanting more. I believe Josh can win multiple Super Bowls but this teams Defense first philosophy isn't getting us there. The idea of playing "complimentary football" to me is trying to slow the Offense down to keep the Defense off the field.

Going into the 2nd half of Josh Allen's career, I'd love to see him with an Offense first guy as HC. The idea of combining Josh with the Offensive minded Ben Johnson I believe would get us that Lombardi Trophy or two or ...

Go McDermott, prove me wrong.

Wouldn't this in large part be Beane's responsibility?  I'm souring on Beans cuz we just don't have the talent other top teams do especially at WR.

Brady is a big part of the problem IMHO.  Looks great some games and bad in others.  I believe the "everybody eats" philosophy is flawed.  I remember watching a program on NFL Channel about the Ravens and they won their first SB.  They were doing the "everybody eats" thing until Trent  Dilfer got there and he said no, I'm gonna throw it to the open guy no matter who he is.  Their offense improved. I hope Josh does the same.  The "everybody eats" thing already ran off Diggs.

Josh has a big role in it too due to his regression to trying to throw it long on every play.

WRs need to catch the football.

Really it's a just a team thing all the way from Coach McDermott to the water boy.

Josh has reached the limit of his physical gifts and needs to improve the cerebral component of his game if he’s (the offense/team) to improve.

Disagree.  Today I listened to an interview of Matt Hasselbeck and he said that Allen and the Bills reminded him of Andrew Luck and the Colts.  Over the last 2 weeks I've heard others say the same thing and I'm starting to agree with them.

I watched a lot of NFL games this weekend and I saw that receivers were repeatedly getting wide, and I mean WIDE open.  How receivers were catching 5 yard passes and turning them into 40 yard plays. I saw QB's with a lot of time to throw. A LOT OF TIME. When Shakir is not on the field the Bills have the worst WR group in the NFL.

Allen's limitations are not between the ears as you suggested.  IMO Allen is limited, like Luck was, by the inability of the Bills organization to surround him with other good to great offensive talent.  Further improvements by Allen, either in his physical or cerebral play, will increasingly provide diminishing returns.

Kelly enjoyed having TWO HOF WR's at the same time; and a HOF RB whose strength was his pass catching.  In addition Kelly enjoyed the benefits of having a HOF, highly disruptive defensive player in Bruce Smith.  When Kelly's O was faltering, Smith could take over a game and spark the team in ways that NO Bills defensive player has been able to do during the Allen years.  In fact, Mahomes benefits greatly from future HOF DT Chris Jones who like Smith can single handily take over a game.
