GunnerBill Posted October 13 Posted October 13 I think in the first half of the Houston game it was everything. The coaching was poor, the line struggled, the receivers suck and Josh was bad. Baltimore the week before was definitely about the receivers more than it was about anything else. The book on Buffalo is out. Don't let them beat you with Shakir and Kincaid between the numbers. Clog that up, give Josh 1 on 1s outside and see if his receivers can win those match ups. It's fine to look for Brady to come up with a counter punch. But with the talent available I'm not sure what that is. 2 1 1 1 Quote

It's Brady's literal job to come up w something we are among a very undesirable list of teams wrt our passing game production. and we have a top QB. i just don't buy that a better offensive mind couldn't make this work 4 Quote

He did it far too much against the Texans but he wasn't doing that in previous games. He’s done it consistently in big games while facing pressure sometimes while not. Sometimes while having time in the pocket you will see him look at the short option only to ignore it and force it downfield. This is nothing new. Sometimes it’s lead to spectacular plays, most times it results in a punt. Yes he was very disciplined in the first 3 games, that went out the window since then. 1 Quote

Might as well trade Josh, because this current offensive philosophy and personnel group scares nobody at the moment. Correct. They could get some league average QB to run this offense. @GoBills808 is that Brock Purdy's music? 3 Quote

I am not absolving him of any responsibility. I'm just saying honestly at the moment I don't see an obvious counter beyond the Bills receivers have to start winning some of those outside match ups. I'd like to see him use Samuel on some more vertical stuff. He isn't an every down option out there but he has some speed and we need to make some plays outside and force defenses to worry somewhat about that. Quote
Eastport bills Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Allen has not gotten his rhythm yet and the receiver relationships has not developed as quickly as we hoped. Brady is partly responsible because he has eliminated Knox, Samuel and MVS from the game planning. Now the final component is the receivers are not getting separation, leading to Josh abandoning the pocket and being forced to throw low percentage, over the middle passes. The only bright spot is Kincaid and Cook are performing well. Brady needs a big game Monday to turn the tide. Quote

Big Blitz Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) We played in Baltimore on a Sunday night in a game they absolutely had to win. We played down 6 starters on D in Houston. And no Shakir. Allen needs to be good in order to beat everyone. If we’re that beat up and he’s just meh we are in trouble. Not pushing panic buttons now. I will maintain that the interior of our Oline especially Center and LG is not good enough - and the new Center who is essentially new at Center could be impacting Torrence and our blitz pick ups. On the defensive side of the ball that is just false. The problem is the different identities on offense - 12, Kincaid and alleged match up nightmares, WR room is awful, 3 OCs in 4 years. One fired mid season. 1 Quote

Anyway he’s been one of our 2 best receivers along with Shakir. At least he gets open. Quote

Almost all the offensive woes are traced back to having a defensive HC though. With an elite QB you want an offensive HC to pair with him, otherwise we have this revolving doors of OCs getting fired or hired as head coaches. 2 Quote
Bangarang Posted October 14 Posted October 14 2 hours ago, Utah John said: Well, the best player in franchise history played in four straight Super Bowls. As for all the gloom and doom, this team is the best that Beane could put together, pretty much. I think he made some mistakes but considering all the losses and departures, plus the key injuries, he still did a good job. The realistic goal for the year was a winning record, and the enhanced goal is winning the AFCE again. Ever since the Diggs trade ate so much cap space, it's been clear this year's team was not SB bound. It's next year that Beane is planning for. Beane is planning for next year? We have little cap space available next year. So what's the plan? Hope that guys flip the switch or he strikes gold with a draft pick? Seems like a flawed process. 1 Quote

As much as those coordinators weren't great, the guy hiring them has a lot of say into those offenses. Just let Allen call the plays. He knows what works. 2 Quote

MPT Posted October 14 Posted October 14 It's almost all on Brady. And the rest on McDermott. If you run every 1st down, you are giving the defense an advantage on every single sequence. First 3 games, lots of pre-snap motion. Next 2 games, very little pre-snap motion. One of the best TE tandems in the league? Ignore them, scheme up deep throws to Mack Hollins. The sequence at the end of the Houston game to give them the ball back and let them kick a FG? I mean, talk about a coaching blunder that only the author of "13 seconds" could have concocted. Don't tell me about a lack of talent at WR. Yeah, it can cover up bad coaching (see: Bengals) but you don't need it (see: Chiefs). We have a coaching staff that will announce their identity and never deviate. When is the last time you ever saw McDermott tailor his game plan to the opponent? He has his scheme and it works most of the time, but he'll never minimize his opponents' strengths or attack their weaknesses. It was the same with Dorsey and it's the same with Brady. Reid and Spagnuolo are the best because they tailor every single game for their opponent. Just like Belichick and Brady did. Most coaches, including ours, just don't have the capacity for it. 4 Quote
