Does that justify such a contract? Probably not. You could get a more impactful player who’s plays a significant amount of snaps, be that on O or D. Who could we have gotten at the current price of 9M + incentives? Floyd, Autry and Dorrance Armstrong are the only guys close imo. Floyd faded hard. Autry not really a fit imo. Armstrong looks like a nice player and probably the only guy that can be as effective as Von in that price range (based on what we’ve seen from Von this season). He’s been very good this season in an albeit limited role. I don’t understand the Von hate (not from you @Sojourner) other than maybe hating him as a person. On the field, he’s an asset this season as long as he can stay healthy. Last season is no more.

I agree with you on Von not being washed but also see the flip side of the coin where we could have someone who plays more snaps is all. The guy from Jacksonville that went to Houston was around $5m. Chase Young signed a 1 year prove it deal for around $8m. Who knows what you would have gotten but he’s been pretty solid so far for the Saints on 70% of their snaps. Could turn that 1 year prove it deal into either him or Groot; whoever shows out better during this year.

Chase Young got 13M and Fatukasi is a 320 DT. i hear what your saying about having someone that plays more snaps for the money than what Von gives us, but more than anything, we need him healthy in the playoffs and I feel that will dictate his snaps this season. at his current price- I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want him based on his play.
Billsatlastin2018
Knox averages 35 catches, 35 yards and 4TDs! Terrible! Upping Dawson Can’t Catch A Ball Knox was a brutal, brutal move by Beanie!

I’ve liked Von’s play so far and haven’t been in the disappointed completely camp as you can’t help injuries but with the suspension and a lot of the other guys on the line being invisible since week 1 for Groot and 2-3 for everyone else, someone who’s actually seeing the field would be nice even if they are joining in the houdini act. Yeah, Fatu is but the DT play hasn’t been stellar and he would have been a nice addition. Don’t know where I saw that young number. Didn’t mean to be wrong on that. Whooops. But I’m with you, he’s played well for his age and recent injuries here. Sucks he’s now suspended on top of that when no one else is showing up in the pass rush is all. Let Kincaid shine and go back to 21 personnel) We HAVE to clear the dead weight imo… Entering year 2 of a 2-3 year semi rebuild, how would this affect our cap? I expect Miller to be cut with a post 6/1 designation this next offseason. I’ve expected that to be the case ever since I first saw his contract. I can see Milano being a cut next offseason too. Two straight seasons mostly lost to injury for a player his age is usually it. This one will hurt. Not Tre White bad, but close. He’s also a good candidate for a post 6/1 designation. Oliver isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. His contract and the need he fills are two big reasons. Knox will likely be here in 2025 because his salary is partially guaranteed. He’d be a difficult cut though he could be traded. I do not think you’d have a lot of takers on that due to his salary though. I highly doubt he’ll be here in 2026 though. I hope to see the Bills ramp up spending next offseason, but that’s up to Pegula. And who they spend on is up to Beane and McDermott. SoCal Deek
Sounds to me like the Bills need to draft REALLY well and stop messing around with these unproductive veteran, no name, free agents.

Otherwise he is one of the few "paid" pieces I am definitely keeping. Basically him, Josh Taron and Dion. You probably have to keep Spencer Brown too now and I don't mind that but as I said at the time I think they went early on the extension. When haven’t they went early on the extension? I think he’s going to be a valuable player this season. The current version of Miller is better….and he’s a proven closer. He’s a champion that has a track record of making big plays in big moments. Further confirming you can’t take off the Bills colored glasses. Miller is nothing more than an average speed rusher at this point. His only sacks come on coverage or others forcing the QB into his lap. He’s no longer getting his own. He’s the epitome of this DL, solid player, waiting for somebody else to generate pressure so they can get a tackle. It’s the exact reason this team signed him in the first place, nobody, including his broken down body can get home on their own. Flat out, Miller is a has been. He WAS great. Since the injury, he’s been awful for a season and worked his way back to being pretty good. The past is the past, he’s an old man that relied on elite explosion, which just isn’t there any more. If you love watching a guy run around the corner to 3 yards behind a QB, he’s your boy. Edited October 14 by DCofNC

MikePJ76
i dont see the point in waiting on miller. I would be on the phone with detroit tomorrow morning working something out to send him there. maybe they will give up a conditional 4th that becomes a third if they make the nfc championship or something like that. getting rid of him and clearing his money and adding a draft pick that becomes an inexpensive player you will have for the next four years makes a lot of sense to me. He barely got on the field vs Baltimore in a game where the defense was getting kiled. So if he is just a situational pass rusher I say get rid of him and Detroit is the perfect fit. Cutting him would save $8.5 million against the cap and would incur $15.4 million in dead money. Matt Milano has a cap hit of $16.1 million in 2025. Cutting him would negatively affect the cap (loss of $1.1 million) and incur $17.3 million in dead money. Not sure how trading affects that or not. Ed Oliver has a cap hit of $20.8 million in 2025. Cutting him would negatively affect the cap (loss of $5.7 million) and incur $26.5 million in dead money. Dawson Knox has a cap hit of $14.0 million in 2025. Cutting him would negatively affect the cap (loss of $2.9 million) and incur $17.0 million in dead money. Seems like a lot of bad moves for Buffalo. But someone else can speak to how trading might impact those numbers. I don't know exactly how that works myself. Out of all these moves, Von is the only candidate worth consideration
papazoid
according to spotrac....you could be on the hook for almost $90 mil in 2025 DEAD CAP von - $29.0 oliver - $26.5 milano - $17.0 knox - $17.0 knox needs to go.....the other 3 just need to get healthy and we are better off keeping them than absorbing that dead cap hit
Bangarang
The sad reality is that we're screwed on the cap this year and next. Beane kinda sucks when it comes to handing out money.

Here is OTC’s calculator if you want to mess around with the numbers: https://overthecap.com/calculator/buffalo-bills I could also see Milano going the way of miller and knox and lowering his pay in favor of guarantees. End of the day - this team has Allen and is mostly absent star players. Milano, TJ, Miller are probably the 3 closest players buffalo has to being star players, and while oliver isn't a star - he still had 9.5 sacks last year. Diggs cap eating was a necessary evil because he wanted out. Cutting milano either costs cap space (1.1M plus the replacement contract), or it costs 11M in dead cap in 2026, while creating 9.9M in space in 2025. You can do a lot with that but, he's still better than Williams and the defense is better with him on the field. Probably a year too soon to move on there IMO. I wouldn't move oliver - he's a good player and one of the only mainstays on the defensive line. Whatever savings gets eaten by the replacement. Knox - I don't see a trade market for a TE at 1yr 8.75M with the limited production he's shown this season. So if you cut him you either lose 3M in cap space in 2025 (plus the replacement player), or you are eating cap in 2026 - you save 4.5M and eat 7.4M in 2026. 4.5M will get consumed by a replacement player which basically gets you Jonnu Smith. Feels like i'm robbing peter and paying paul and the team doesn't improve at all by making the move.
JimBob2232
We took our licks last year with the cap. We'll be fine now. Lots of Moves to make. Currently, we're about 10M under the cap. But we've cleared out a lot of headroom last year. Post June-1 cuts are key. Cut Von - $17.5M in cap space Cut Milano - $10M in cap space Extend Rouseau - Another 8-10M free'd up Cut/Trade Elam - $4M free'd up Restructre (or extend) Josh - $10M in cap space Restructure DaQuan - $5M in space. Cut Trubinsky - 2.5M in space Relatively simple/safe moves there...and almost $60M free'd up - plus the 10 we have now...we're in good shape to go shopping. Just cant make the Von Miller mistake again...that set us WAYYYY back. The big decision is what to do with Josh. He is due a massive payday...
