It's much more complicated than that. The players have been making mistakes sometimes on plays that should work. Josh among them. The players have had trouble working together on plays that should have worked, as this is the first year together for many. The OL has been having some problems, Torrence in particular having regressed or having problems working with the new center, or something. And Khalil is getting separation very well indeed. And yes, there have been plays where they were figured out. The problem isn't a lack of new possible formations, though. Not that I'd mind seeing your formation sometime. Sounds fun. Yes, I realize this ranking is based off our great first three weeks, and that if we continue at this current offensive pace, we're likely to plummet in the rankings. Still, it's important to point out the actual facts, which show that the Bills -- as of this moment -- are a top six scoring team for the fifth consecutive year. Good point. The Bills had bad stretches all but one of the last few years. And as Joe Marino said, if they hit a couple of the longer plays they tried last game we most likely win it. And there was a win or two to be had. Quote
Utah John Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) I suggested 22 or 21 recently because we need Gilliam in the backfield to protect Josh. With Morse gone, the line is not picking up stunts and twists from the opposing defenses, and Josh is running for his life. McGovern is a big body which is fine but he's not doing a big part of the center's job, getting the O line working together properly. Or instead of Gilliam, use Anderson. Have him declare himself eligible every down, and let him be Josh's guardian. We have to do SOMETHING to protect Josh. Edited October 10 by Utah John Quote

Sweats Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I keep falling back on, is it scheme, talent or execution?......maybe a little of all 3, however, Brady should know the players by now, he should know their strengths, their weaknesses, etc. I think Brady needs to scheme to the level of the players talents and coach proper execution and i'm not sure if he has the experience quite yet. I think with the level of talent on the field you would have to scheme in more 22 formations to hide the flaws of the WR's......we've got two solid TE's, surely, we can get them more involved, can't we? 1 1 1 Quote

Try to get the ground and pound going which should open up the passing game. And weren't we supposed to be going with a 12 formation mainly so we could get Kincaid and Knox advantage on match ups? I just don't know anymore. Absolutely. This line is much more physical than last year. 2 starting caliber TEs who they invested a lot of money & resources into, an above average stable of RBs, big blocking WRs, and Josh Allen as a threat to run as well. I’d love to see a more power running offense w/ some play action sprinkled in or something similar to what Baltimore is doing. I feel like they are trying to force a square peg into a round hole right now. 1 2 1 Quote
JohnBonhamRocks Posted October 10 Posted October 10 My answer is yes, but the second “RB” should be Samuel most of the time. Samuel 4/5 to Johnson 1/5 times. There is bound to be a LB covering that second RB or Cook. Split that guy out. Also, agree on 12 personnel. Cannot recall this season seeing us line up with Knox and Kincaid on opposite ends of the line before, as above, the latter splits out to take a LB with him. I’m sure it’s happened with both formations this year, but I have no specific memory of it. Quote
colin Posted October 10 Posted October 10 new england during their dynasty and kc today have zero qualms about trotting out 2 or 3 tes, 2 rbs, only 1 or 2 wrs, different formations and drive blocking for the rb to take the edge with a head of steam, chip away at the edges to backs and tes for short gains, and changing it up out of the same look via play action and other trickery. i baffles me that our staff just can't get that going, maybe we just suck at blocking and are too light in the ass? i dunno, but all of that and the total zero screen game is just basic football blunders and should be correctable. What an absolute waste of Allen's talent to not load up on receivers who can at the very least get open. He should be blowing the league up with his skill set. Wasn't very skillful this past week Quote

Alphadawg7 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I don't know what we need to run...but I do know they need more out of the this "dynamic TE duo" we were supposed to have. Knox on limited targets had 15 TD's the prior 2 years before Kincaid was drafted that earned him an extension despite the fact our OC often forgot he was on the team until back halves of the seasons and never go him enough targets. Drafting Kincaid was supposed to open up a two prong attack. But so far, Kincaid is being underused and Knox doesn't exist in the passing game. First 3 weeks I get it...9 people caught Josh's 18 completions week 1, no one was going to have relevant individual stats. Week 2 was the Cook show and we chewed clock the 2nd half in a blow out...again no one was going to have relevant individual stats in the pass game. Week 3 Josh hit 10 different guys and again chewed clock the whole 2nd half...so once again, no one player was going to have relevant stats. BUT...weeks 4 and 5 when we needed the passing game to do more, Kincaid was still underused and Knox was non existent. I will say, a LOT of that is on Allen as there were many times both weeks with Kincaid especially he had him for short gains and he chose to look for bigger shots that never happened. But, that more pertains to Kincaid...Knox doesn't seem to even be an option out there, he gets no looks what so ever. So I am still waiting for the game when we come out and Knox and Kincaid are pressuring the LB's and S's on the same plays and we are hitting them and attacking both short and mid levels with them. Like its never happened even once since Kincaid was drafted despite that being the "reason" he was drafted. Quote

MasterStrategist Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I don't know about 22 personell in a traditional sense (I formation and 2 TEs). But if they put Gilliam or go 13 personell with Morris that works. Gilliam is not going to add much as a blocker from FB role. Alec Anderson should never be seeing the field on 1st or 2nd down, unless we're in the redzone. A team that already lacks explosive plays, we're telegraphing run and have no threat of playaction to him. This offense needs more misdirection looks, jet sweep motions/handoffs. More playaction under center. Basically we bring in a Swiss army WR/RB and don't use him in the most basic of plays (jet sweeps) yo give him looks and make the LBs hesitate when we fake the motion/hold DEs outside too. Playaction attack to our TEs or a check down to our group of solid receiving RBs, just isn't happening enough. Some on Josh playing horribly, like this past weekend, and some due to playcalling. We need to get those easy 6-8 yard completions on 1st down and put us in better late down situations/ability for shot plays. Quote
Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I suspect part of this teams offensive struggles are playing on the road. I suspect that the home and away splits for the offense are going to be pretty drastic. if we can manage to win the division, we can cruise to the divisional round. But I don’t see this team playing at home in the divisional. Honestly, I rather play at KC over the alternative of at Baltimore or at Houston again. Quote
Mr. WEO Posted October 11 Posted October 11 McD won't allow it because he thinks they will get flagged for too many men on the field with the 22...... Quote
