On the other hand, if Allen just plants and reloads Hollins probably walks into the endzone untouched.

I've never seen Allen or Mahomes or Jackson plant and reload on that kind of play. They are all throwing off platform and expecting their intended target to make himself available. Making that throw is hard. Standing still in wide open space is easy. JMO

Mahomes had to learn this the hard way too when everyone started to play 2 safeties deep. With Allen he seems to not be patient enough to consistently do this. Also, helps when you have Reid calling the offense.

We tried to play that way against the Ravens and it got us nowhere. The Ravens just sat on the short stuff and made sure our guys felt it too.

Everyone is desperately searching for answers that don't exist with the current personnel. Can't go run heavy, can't go downfield, can't separate quickly in short areas. Could Andy Reid make it work with this group? Sure. But we have to be realistic about our coaching and our personnel. No miracle sustainable game plans are coming.

The offense is and will remain a slog unless we add a legit talent to the room. Luckily there very well may be several of them available in the coming weeks. Either we make a play for one or we're punting on a possible championship season. There are no other answers.

I blame a lot of that on play calling being predictable and team getting off to bad starts by playing too conservative. Can we stop with the WR screens out the gate for negative yards.

The offensive coaching is fine. Nothing more, nothing less. There are no in-season solutions to that problem. So we have to accept the solutions that exist. Plenty of things to analyze about the offense's failures in this game, from Allen to the coaching to the OL, but there is one really fundamental problem that has actual solutions sitting out there.

More targets to James Cook (and I'm not talking about screens we have no hope of executing) is the answer, imo.

They've virtually ignored him the last two weeks and there has been space for him to operate in the flats.

w out game tape i think spencer brown was the worst player on offense tbh

I think you’re right. All of the pressure is coming from his side. Teams have definitely figured out the he is the weak link. I would like to see a line shakeup.

They've painted themselves into a nice corner here.

It seems they might have even convinced themselves that this was a good WR room with all the preseason hype of teams not being able to key in on 1 guy.  They were only right in the sense they don't have to key in on ANY guy since there's not a receiver on this roster a team really has to gameplan for.

If they don't make some sort of move to improve the room, yes, they might still make the playoffs, but against good teams, they will just get exposed quickly like they have the last two weeks.

Your last sentence saved this one for me haha. Also their interior oline is insanely good and the outside is terrible, so it’s more predictable where they’re gonna blow assignments and mahomes can adjust accordingly a little bit easier

things have looked like a struggle for the chiefs offense all year but they did look pretty good in this one.  It hasn’t always been smooth sailing

I think that's a band aid, not a sustainable means of offensive production. Baltimore and then Houston made it a point to not let him get away with cheap yards. 2nd and 10 after Josh comes back in the game, Houston rolls down a safety to cover him man to man and he has no chance of converting the wheel unless he makes a circus catch. Defenses are going to continue keying in on him. He is very talented so sometimes he will make plays despite the attention but eventually you have to get the ball downfield and we just can't do that with any type of consistency right now.

I haven’t unseen that since you said it in the game thread a few weeks ago 🤣. The screens SHOULD work too if we could actually hold a block once in awhile lol

Mahomes never panics or has the deer in the headlight look. Hes much smarter than Allen and knows when to get rid of the ball on time and avoid getting hit/sacked. Allen has probably had 2 concussions this year already.

Allen and Mahomes definitely handle pocket pressure differently, no one can dispute that. Overall, their ceilings are comparable, but Patty’s floor is still much higher than Josh’s. Mahomes has never looked as bad as Josh has at his worst.

I’m still loyal to the laundry over any player, so if you gave me the option to trade Josh for Patty - as annoying as Mahomes is - I’d do it in a heartbeat. It’s not that I don’t think Josh can win a championship with less around him, I do, but Patty has that extra little magic and consistency that I believe in a little bit more. And yes, I know he also has Chris Jones who has a knack for making the big defensive play at the most opportune time. Josh has never had that player on defense, but I’d still roll with Pat.

Idk mahomes has looked pretty bad this year up until tonight but they haven’t lost so nobody cares, josh has looked good until the last few games.

I think mahomes gets rocked all the same as the qb for the bills the last two games of course we’ll never know though

that bucs chiefs Super Bowl felt a lot like a josh Allen nobody can block nobody can get open game and mahomes took an absolute beating and everyone talked about him like most talk about josh here after a bad game 🤣. Like ‘yea he was bad in that one but cmon’

if mahomes is head and shoulders above josh at the end of the year I don’t think you can even argue they’re particularly close anymore though so we’ll see what happens.  Their situations are starting to converge it seems like so it makes the comparison a little easier  lol  I couldn’t even fathom a world where mahomes has as many passing tds as ints through 5 weeks going into this season so I have absolutely no clue what will happen

We aren't even seeing those 2deep looks now

It's a lot of single high cover1/cover3 now because our lack of outside talent is exposed

No easy answers on roster exist imo

I don’t think intelligence has anything to do with it. They’re just wired differently.
