For me?

Covid. April-ish 2020. Watching the democrats and their apparatchicks use "science" propaganda to pervert real science.

2016: Never Trump, never Clinton

2020: Trump

2024: Trump

How about you?

Here's another story.

To @TheDemocrats ,

This is my career suicide note, but it’s also a thank you from someone who is done with careerism. I’m a lifelong member of your party and I’m voting for Donald Trump. Why? It’s not just your industrial-scale censorship or your endless wars or the fact that you disenfranchised millions of Kennedy voters through lawfare. If that were all I had, it would be sufficient, in terms of conscience and rage, but there’s more to this story than anger. Your hatred and censorship has taught me to admire @realDonaldTrump and to love my fellow working-class Americans, and for that I thank you.

This vote is for all the traumatized people who have been canceled and banished just for saying no to the establishment. This vote is for the surveyor, the farmer, the HVAC man, the nurse, the hairstylist, the Deadhead, the veteran, and my fellow adjunct professors who have told me their stories about being bullied by the Democrats in their friends and family and their colleagues at work. This is for the young Black woman in my class last year who, on the day of Kamala Harris’s visit to campus, said, “You’re going to hate me, Dr. Armstrong, but I’m not going. I’m voting for Donald Trump.” Why would she think I would hate her for the way she votes? What has happened to our country?

Somehow, Donald Trump has changed my mind. Where I once saw a cartoon white supremacist, warmonger, and narcissist, I now see the man who renegotiated NAFTA and the only president in the twenty-first century not to start a new war. Where I once saw the pal of the neocons, I now see a man who has awoken from his slumber and disavowed Dick Cheney, George Bush, and John Bolton, even as my own party embraces these “men.”

Why has the greatest entrepreneur of my generation (@elonmusk) risked his career to side with Trump? Why has the most consequential grassroots environmentalist of my time (@RobertKennedyJr ) sacrificed friends, family, and reputation to side with “The Orange Menace?” Why has the most courageous peace activist of the twenty-first century (@TulsiGabbard) left our party? Because Tulsi, Bobby, and Elon see what I see. Donald Trump is resilient and he’s risking his life to change the fate of our nation. Trump is transforming the Republican Party into the party of peace, free speech, and the working-class. He has converted George Bush’s billionaire boys club of Big War, Big Ag, and Big Pharma into a party that cares about public health and embraces regenerative agriculture.

Now I don’t think the GOP is all the way there yet, but they’re clearly the party that embraces dissent, and dissent—brave speech—is the fuel for evolution. So, for the first time in my life, I’m voting Republican. In the name of peace in Ukraine and free speech here at home, I’m casting my vote, as a Kennedy Democrat, for Donald Trump.

1976. First presidential election I could vote for. Have voted Republican then and ever since.

Until 2016 I had generally voted for Republicans but thought that most in government were generally good people trying to improve the country, sometimes in stupid ways but always with a reasonable goal. In 2016 I started to realize how many people in government are only there for themselves and don't care about anything but their own power and money. The corruption and incompetence is deep and pervasive in so many places it will be painful to fix

I got e.coli in 2006 and was uninsured, i reluctantly needed to be hospitalized.  it was a scary time for me, so Obama promising affordable health care was an easy vote for me.  Then when it came out I actually couldn't afford it, and I would receive a penalty for that.  I was furious!

October 2001.

The press was questioning Rumsfeld at a PC and hammering him on “reports” from the battlefield and if we had the right to shoot at Taliban soldiers fleeing from it.

Just couldn’t believe that was their concern - if it was even happening.

Same story here,  bro… I needed insurance and Barak promised it to all…

Instead, what I got was being FORCED to pay a monthly premium without ever being able to afford actually seeing a doctor…

It was an extreme disappointment how badly we were tricked…

And that was after I voted for W, and got fooled by his administration, from what he ran on…

I credit W with waking me up to how fake the Republican Party was…

People are sharing honest recollections of their political evolution, and you try to belittle it with your infantile post?

Sorry, but the little kids table is over there if that’s all can contribute…

This isn’t a Right of Left thread…Instead of taking “cheap shots” at others, why not share your own political evolution? 👍

I certainly won’t judge…

Are you being serious?  You're a conspiracy theorist.  So is the OP (not to mention always wrong and consistently abrasive).  The lowest rung of the totem pole.  People that require ZERO proof (just tweets) to base their positions and beliefs.  If you don't like it, go to the safe place that was created for scared little kitties like you.

When did you wake up?  Just happens to align when you started swallowing whole misinformation?  You are funny.  In the most pathetic sort of way.

Around 5:30am. The little one is having a bit of sleep regression.

Goose tell me they're not all like the people we see here.  Because lately, these loonies are all I'm hearing from.

How can people base their positions and beliefs upon zero proof?  Do you know?  I don't.  I can't  even begin to comprehend it either.

Yes, I’m very serious…share your story…👍

My story is 100% true…

Did the Bush administration and the CIA not lie to the world about WMD and Saddam’s connections to Al Qaida, in order to go to war? So yeah, that was a period when I started waking up…

Did Obama not lie to the country about providing free healthcare to low income people? I was low income at the time and ended up getting F’d by Obama care, worse than if I didn’t have insurance…So yeah, that was a period I woke up some more…

And these anecdotes have nothing to do with woke, modern terminology of “misinformation”…This was real life, punching everyone in the face…😉

And about conspiracy theory, Isn’t everyone a conspiracy theorist?

You wonder how people can base their positions on zero proof, and yet you believed the Hunter laptop was Russian disinformation…That was a conspiracy theory…So, by you referring to conspiracy theorists as the lowest rung on totem pole, you also insulted yourself…👍

You need to get off your high horse, embrace who you really are, and quit projecting onto other people what you deny yourself to be…We are all conspiracy theorists, on this board, and there is nothing wrong with that…Sometimes we are right, sometimes we are wrong…👍

Well, since he decided to wake up at 5:30 again, I suppose I have some time to answer this. (Seriously, this routine is getting a bit old. I’d like to be able to sleep in until at least 6…)

It’s mostly the internet, especially social media. When people see something that confirms their priors, they reflexively want to believe it. There’s no need to investigate further if it feels right.

When I see them post stuff that looks really bad for the Dems, I don’t want to believe it, but the Dems are not perfect or universally good, so it could be true. So I often look into it to see if it’s actually true. With the stuff on PPP, it is rarely actually true. Which is why I’ve been dropping a lot of their debunked lies in the “Is Biden Dead?” thread.

Also, I think a big part of it is that the world is complicated. Instead of recognizing that it is chaotic and uncaring, it’s comforting to believe someone is in charge, even if they are someone you oppose. It gives an explanation as to why things are the way they are, why maybe you’re not as successful as you thought you’d be, and it can give you purpose: you’re the rebel fighting against the evil empire.

The real truth: that there’s no “them” or (((them))) or uniparty pulling the strings behind the scenes means that there is no greater purpose they are fighting for / against. That their life is the way that it is because of luck and their own actions. That’s a scary thought to some.

It is interesting that the libs on the board are responding as they have always been aware of everything they currently know. Either they have not grown as people or they are unaware of ever having cognitive dissonance and having to rectify the concept that they were ever wrong. I would think that all of use over 30 could agree the government has become much worse at spending money with nothing to show for it

I voted for Barry thinking he was different.  Then when negotiations for Obamacare were happening and he said there wouldn't be any tort reform, I knew he was the same old snake oil salesman.  And then I started to see/be aware of the identity politics.  The party has only gotten weirder since.
