Riverboat Ritchie
Didn’t he renegotiate his contract to make it incentive based. Stinks for him but does it open up money for Bills in anyway to bring someone in or do the incentives hit cap or not next year?

Maybe after our new stadium, like the Rams. This league is a joke punishing some but ignoring Rice who could've easily killed someone on that freeway. If he didn't put his hands on a woman he would not be in this situation. not Goodell's fault these guys behave this way. They have everything in the world and they still cannot help themselves. 298Woody
How does this affect the cap? Are those weeks deducted and a savings to the Bills?
Mr. WEO
This is what happens when you beat up your significant other. This has been mentioned but Rices is an ongoing criminal case. NFL typically waits for that to be adjudicated before suspending 3

It’s better for Von, because he only forfeits $333k of base salary this year instead of close to $4m that he otherwise would have forfeited. This has been mentioned but Rices is an ongoing criminal case. NFL typically waits for that to be adjudicated before suspending The real issue is that one is DV and the other isn't. You can be suspended for DV charges without a conviction; you can't be suspended for reckless driving/endangerment without a conviction. The league is very, very conscious that ~40 percent of their viewership is female and they have some PTSD from Kareem Hunt, Ray Rice, etc. etc. 11 minutes ago, Toledo Bill said: Regarding NFL “suspensions” wasn’t accused murderer Ray Kewis fined but nor suspended? It wasn't DV.
Motorin'
3 minutes ago, Doc Brown said: "Von Miller will forfeit $333,333 of his $1.5M salary per his 4-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct rule." What's unclear? His base salary is 8.5 million for the year. 8.5/ 17 is .5M. So 4 games is 2M, not 1.5M. Is he forfeiting 333k per game out of the 500k per game salary? Or in total? For the team, this is probably the best time for him to get suspended. He'll be back for the home stretch and playoffs. Yeah, that's true, but I still think it would hurt less, if we got some of our injured defenders back first.
Utah John
Very strange timing. But the Bills are using the opportunity to bring in a beefy DT from another team's practice squad, and that might be a blessing in the long run. Also Miller loses four games of pay -- does that money go back to the Bills' salary cap for this year? When Miller is allowed to return, someone else will need to be released from the 53. Might be the end for Andreesen.

The NFL treats DV differently - you only have to be charged and not convicted. Here’s the policy, at least as of 2022: https://nflpaweb.blob.core.windows.net/website/Departments/Salary-Cap-Agent-Admin/2022-NFL-Personal-Conduct-Policy.pdf Seems to me it gives the league a lot of discretion, and Rice will face his own suspension once the league gets to his case. Maybe I’m missing something in the policy that would suggest otherwise, though.
Lionel Hutz
The NFL will probably count Rice's time on the injured list as "time served" when they finally get around to doling out their punishment for his violation of the personal conduct policy.
