And yeah, I just don’t think Beane is gonna throw away a premium pick in first 4 rounds for a half year rental unless he believes that one player could put us over the top for a SB.

What Dianna’s Hearing: The teams talking Davante Adams (so far)

Davante Adams is waiting on Las Vegas to trade him as he nurses a hamstring injury. The Raiders receiver is not expected to be active against the Broncos this week amidst the dialogue.

As of now, the Jets, Steelers, and Saints are the teams in contact with the Raiders’ front office to discuss trade scenarios. Though that doesn’t mean teams like Buffalo and Kansas City aren’t interested; those two, specifically, are monitoring the situation and willing to get aggressive if the Raiders are willing to pay some of Adams’ contract.

As one GM pointed out: “The money is a lot, and so is the money moving forward.” Below, Jacob dives deeper into the situation.

Buffalo Bills

Offer: A 2025 third-round pick and CB Kaiir Elam for Adams and a 2025 seventh-round pick

The Bills have had promising early returns on slot receiver Khalil Shakir, rookie Keon Coleman and tight end Dalton Kincaid. However, the rest of the receiver group rings hollow without a prominent top option. In a quest to reach the Super Bowl in a wide-open AFC, they could use a receiver of Adams’ caliber, if only for one season, to complete an already-imposing offense.

As for the offer, the Bills have some draft picks to play with in 2025 but only a little cap space ($3.2 million) and are low on contracts to restructure. If the Raiders were willing to eat the majority of Adams’ remaining base salary, the Bills could make it work. — Joe Buscaglia

You are kind of becoming a troll.  Provide links, and provide support for your takes, or you'll quickly get added to everyone's ignore list.

Here is the link, folks: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5811325/2024/10/02/davante-adams-trade-offers-raiders-jets-steelers/

The above is just Joe B.'s thought experiment, not an actual offer.

If we really wanted to land Adams, here’s my “Madden” trade idea:

2025 2nd rd pick

Samuel

Elam

other draft pick compensation

If we can get Samuel and Elam off our books in exchange for Adams, are we able to stay within our cap?  How much value does either player at their current contracts even bring to the table for the Raiders?  What additional draft compensation would we need to throw into the deal?

I think it might actually work.

Nah...this is incorrect...its Beane.  Most people here are willing to give up picks more than Beane is.  He has talked in length about the importance of the picks, building talent through the draft as a strategy to manage the cap, etc.

So the issue is samuels cap hit rises even if he's traded because he has a prorated signing bonus of 6.9M.  You cannot trade a signing bonus, and it all gets moved up to the current season when hes on the roster.  Elam would go down a little, but he still has another signing bonus that would need to be fronted as well.

Adams has a 16.8M salary that you'd acquire, and you can only lower it by adding void years.  He has 2 years and 70M left so you can probably lower the salary this year to accommodate void years, but there isn't anything you can do with Elam or Samuel, and buffalo is tight against the cap.

A 2nd for a rental is steep too.  I know thats what we got for diggs, but offseason and deadline trades are different.  Only way i move a 2nd is if i consider him the piece to put the team over the top.  We'd still have a need at WR next season, CB, S, DE, etc.  They need a lot of picks and financial flexibility.

Simple, redo Joshes contract.  Use the savings to bring in Adams.

Thanks, didn’t appreciate how the signing bonus element is working for those guys.

Not giving up much for Budda tbh as he’s a FA next year and is playing on the club option because a contract extension couldn’t be worked out prior.

I think it’s pretty clear that we did not intend on trading Diggs this year.

It was a deteriorating situation, but all sides were just going to make it work while Beane was listening to offers.

The offer would have to blow him away though.

Texans offering the Vikings 2, which before the season anyone would’ve thought could’ve a Top 40 pick met that criteria.

And you can’t just say your WR room is meh .. so you put a good label on it.  Aka “everybody eats”.

Now Beane is looking around the AFC.. and seeing what this defense can be once we get healthy (and off suspension) and it’s not shocking that he’s going to be open to a WR, whether Adams or someone else.

This team as constructed this year was supposed to have a Diggs as part of it.

It is extremely concerning that this organization, with all the plaudits they receive, did not have a plan about what to do with Diggs coming out of their off-season review.  They waffled on the issue, then Beane (as @Kirby Jackson noted) was seemingly reassured that their WR group would work.  Only slight disagreement I have is that they signed Quintez Cephus and MVS both after they draft so they still had concerns.  In that way I agree, they were looking for "lightning in a bottle" with additional bargain bin signings.

WR is just not a priority for them in the off-season...and then perhaps 4 games in it is now?  Makes me further their commitment to "complementary football."
