He's been ok.  Nothing new with Ed.  He has his best seasons when the 1 tech playing next to him plays well enough for him to play free.  Jones has been bad, not sure he isn't washed.  When Ed has to do too much it doesn't go well.

I do think this season is different to the last three. He has been excellent for the last 3 years even if the numbers don't always jump off a page. The underlying analytics were excellent. But they support the eye test this year, he isn't winning his matchups, he isn't moving QBs off their spot and he isn't making impact plays at the line.

The rest of your statement I agree with. His two worst seasons are 2020 (Star opted out) and this season (Jones is washed). I don't think that is a coincidence.

Definitely the achilles of the D...along with S just getting gashed up the middle and leaving undersized LB and S to take on lineman and shed blocks...  Jones I get ... diminishing skill getting older... Oliver I dont, just dont think he is very good... or at least just happy with his Big contract. Upgrade definitely needed at DT.

To think we could have had Metcalf in that draft. Imagine Allen with an actual stud like him....

We don’t like to draft high end WR, evidently, 🤣

The next two DT off the board were Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence

In hindsight, Wilkins was the obvious pick if only to protect Josh's genitals.

When did you bash it? Cause most snap judgments when he got the extension were negative, or at the least fairly skeptical. People only really softened their stance after the season began, and Oliver was pretty damn hot out the gate at the beginning of the season.

If you want to bash his contract right now tho, I’d say the door is wide open for majority support 😆

Immediately after he signed it I said I wasn’t comfortable with it. It was a “potential” type contract

Yes he played well last year but he’s been invisible for most of this year. For the amount of $ he makes he’s not a difference maker

....and he never will be unless you put a quality 1T next to him.  DQ has not performed in a way to advance Ed's strengths.

… which means he is dependent on other players for his success, which also means he’s a … semi-JAG. Difference makers make differences no matter who surrounds them (ie, Josh Allen). Oliver is an OK to decent player.  Not much more than that. The pretty solid cast of DEs on the Bills suggests that he should be taking advantage of the surrounding environs, but he’s not.

Lotta DTs still put up numbers after their partners go down.

One of my biggest beef's with Beane's roster construction.  I mean yeah DQ was pretty solid for us for awhile but with his age it was only a matter of time before his production was going to fall off a cliff and there have been numerous opportunities over the years where we could have drafted a monster 1T to clog up the middle in either Round 2 or 3

Any of you guys watching all-22 with an intimate knowledge of the Bills defensive structure and game plan along with the responsibilities of each player on each play?

I’m not either.

Sometimes DTs have to do the dirty work. Sometimes they create some pocket discomfort that leads to a sack, poor throw, scramble for a short gain and those things don’t have columns.

I’m not saying anyone is wrong. He is not making the splash plays that have Jim Nantz showing some very fake excitement. But he might be doing his job and doing it well. Without an understanding of all the nuances of his 1/11th it’s hard for us to say.

Statistically he is having his worst year as a pro. Lowest sacks, tackles, pressures, you name it. This goes all the way back to his rookie year. I presume he has at least a somewhat similar roles as the past as far as being a penetrating DT. I understand your point as far as not really knowing for sure but the stat regression is certainly conversation worthy.

He’s never been a sack guy.

He’s better against the run.

I think our Run D isn’t as good this year because Jones has fallen off a cliff.

Ed gets doubled most every run play and everyone else is one on one.

Do I love his contract, no.  But he’s important.

You’ll notice how important he is when he’s not in there.  I also think they’re doing some load management with him to keep him fresh for December.

Since Jones got injured last year, both Jones and Oliver have been off their games.

The Bills have gotten away with it for the most part, but the Bills need both Jones and Oliver come January. And if those two can’t make their presence felt in January, it may be the reason the Bills fail in January again.

That isn't true. Ed was terrific last year even after Jones went down, But he hasn't played anywhere near well enough on a consistent basis this season. I thought he might be rounding into form post injury with a decent day against Tennessee then an excellent game in Seattle but the two following games he has disappeared again.

The three DT’s picked after Oliver: Wilkins, Lawrence and Simmons.  If we had picked any one of them, we are probably holding at least one Lombardi Trophy.  Add in picking Ford and passing on Metcalf and A.J. Brown and in retrospect, that draft was a colossal failure.

Not a knock against Beane. No GM hits all the time.  Just saying with 20/20 hindsight, it’s painful to look back on that draft and what could have been.

Take those and switch in Creed Humphrey instead of drafting Boogie Basham and that's a legit Super Bowl roster(and your subtracting Creed off the Chiefs as well)
