Saxum Posted September 30 Posted September 30 I used to use Redbox occasionally rarely to rent but mostly to purchase used DVDs when the price dropped under $5. I only bought them every couple of months and noticed website was not available to me but figured problem was I was using VPN and some sites block use of my service provider. I went shopping and noticed machine was missing from its usual place so when I went home I used my wife's work computer to check and found out that Redbox went out of business after failing to pay employees / contractors. https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/redbox-shutting-down-bankruptcy-liquidation-chicken-soup-for-the-soul-1236067161/ Fortunately I only purchased DVDs and not used any from their apps or streaming which was shutdown without repayment of what people prepaid. Been looking for replacement but most of the smaller rental kiosks went out of business when Redbox started dominating market. Quote
Bills4everNY Posted September 30 Posted September 30 I used to use Redbox all the time. I would always go for the - Rent one DVD, get another one for 50 cents. There was one at the Circle K 5 minutes from my house. It's gone now. I miss having it there. Quote
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted September 30 Posted September 30 I used it on occasion, bit I fondly remember Blockbuster being the place to be on a Friday/Saturday night … the place was poppin Quote

Doc Posted October 1 Posted October 1 I would only use it when I had a code for a free movie. Saw them sitting outside a Walgreens the other day and was wondering if they are still in business. Now I know. Thanks. Quote
Sweats Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Aw geez, i remember those things.......we used to smoke a lot of dope back in the day and wander into the local variety store around 2am, looking to get into some tomfoolery and rent a vid once in a while. I don't recall anything spectacular being available at the ole Redbox, but i remember we wandered over to the old city dump one night and fired garbage around at each other......called it the trash wars. .........and lost the video rental in a mountain of trash to boot. Good times. Quote
Poleshifter Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I have seen ads for RedboxRx and wondered if they were using the same distribution system for prescriptions now. Quote

Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Redbox was my go-to for movie rentals for years. I feel like I have still seen some of their kiosks around? Quote

Just down the road from the Walmart in the "No-Go Zone."😏 1 Quote
davefan66 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Redbox was the easiest way to rent after all the large rental stores went away. Used them quite a bit. Have not watched a DVD in 8 to 10 years. Streaming services and digital media have made it obsolete for me. Quote
