I understand this was an over reaction... but I said this immediately after that play.... Brady should be fired... escorted from the press box and made to walk home for that idiodic play call especially when you were taking back momentum... you didnt need to take that risk with a low percentage play with tremendous downsize...

also, anyone calling a play again where Samuel gets the ball behind the line of scrimmage again should get a lifetime ban from being within 500 feet of an NFL stadium....

In retrospect... with a calmer head... I would change it too... If you ever do that again Joe you are fired... and anyone calling a play where Samuel gets the ball behind the line of scrimmage should get a lifetime ban .... you get the point LOL

See my comment above and REALLY watch the replay, over and over again. I thought the same as you until watched the replay.

This.  1000 times.

Samuel doesn’t look to have the juice left to be lining him up in the backfield and running gadget plays.

I still have 10 minutes of hell to watch, but I’m getting this out now. Joe Brady did a fireable thing. If the Bills started off the season like crap, and this play happened, I’d be done with him.

ALL THE MOMENTUM BELONGED TO YOU!!!!

…..PUT THE BEST PLAYER IN FOOTBALL AT RECEIVER, THEN, RUN AT HIM WITH THE BALL, AS THE DEFENDERS PURSUE, TOSS IT TO HIM ANYWAYS IN THE MOST AWKARD WAY…. AND WHAT……

Watch the entire game be lost. What an idiotic call, and at the worst time. Truly stupid. YOU DIDN’T NEED TO DO TRICKS, BRADY!!!!

Yes, the play was awful. To call it a fireable offense is wild lol. The OL , which has been great just had a terrible night.

But ya , a score on that drive was 100% necessary, momentum was starting to build for us and that ridiculous play killed it, essentially ended the game.

He'll learn! 3-1

Go Bills!

Do they have the personnel to do that?  I think the dl needed to be more effective. The numbers at lb are down.  This defense is small it always has been and is their weakness.

Look around the league and check out how much bigger and stronger linebackers are on most defenses. I was watching some of the Jets/Broncos game and while it was a snooze fest for most of the game their defenses are so much bigger, faster, stronger, and at the point of attack than the Bills defenders. The Bills LB's are more physically suited for safety. Add in playing the nickel and bringing in a smaller DB.

The Bills will always struggle with offenses with good physical running games. The way they've won these games has been to get out to a lead and force them out of their game plan to run the ball. That strategy was over on the Ravens first offensive play.

The Bills will make the playoffs as long as Allen stays healthy but I'm not fooling myself into believing they're going to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs until they get more size and speed into the front 7.

The Bills linebackers that played in this game are big and slow. They are basically identical in size to the Jets LBers.

Bills:

Dorian Williams - 6’2” 230 lbs

Baylon Spector - 6’2” 229 lbs

Nicholas Morrow - 6’0” 215 lbs

Jets:

Jamien Sherwood - 6’2” 216 lbs

CJ Mosley - 6’2” 231 lbs

Quincy Williams - 5’11” 230 lbs

So no, I am not gonna watch the play over and over LOL tooooo painful... but indeed I did see that Dawkins missed his block... and that is a fair statement for sure... I think though where I am going is when you run a gadget play like that... pretty much everyone needs to win their battle and execute... clearly high risk and reward. One person messes up and you have a sh?t show... so I respect your view, but in the end... especially at that juncture with that defense who had us under duress all game.. I am in the Joe, I will fire you if you ever call that play again LOL....  especially with Samuel... no one is going to over pursue because they are afraid of Samuel... just my opinion.

Exactly. The Ravens were never going to beat us through the air. Everyone knew it, including the Ravens. So they did the opposite.

A completely predictable and preventable game plan.

We just didn't prepare for the most obvious thing, and that was apparent from the very first play they ran. The Bills' coaching staff is too proud of their system to predict an 80-yard TD run even though everyone else knew it was coming.

This game looked a lot like the game when the Titans did that to us with Henry on MNF... looked to me very similar game plan with a few Lamar runs sprinkled in.

I get it the BIlls build the defense differently, is it really a problem though?  Was it really even last night?  Look at the plays Henry gained big yards, he was 100% untouched til he was well into the secondary and on the TD he was untouched, period.  This is lack of fundamentals and getting in position.   Now size and physicality can play into that but I see the problems last night as lack of discipline rather than just getting run over.  Look at the Bills overall success on defense. The Bills have the least points against and second least yards against the last 5 years.  I think the most recent game is making people draw incorrect conclusions.

How dare you question McD's D philosophy.......He is obviously the smartest man in the room and for you to question the team he has fielded is unacceptable.

I see where you're going with this and actually most fans see it, unfortunately it may be lost on McD.

If only we would have addressed some of this in the offseason, but i am merely a lowly fan with an opinion that means nothing.

woulda, coulda, shoulda......

I'm still baffled by the call. It was probably the worst designed trick play I've ever seen.

How does an NFL OC think putting Allen out wide and having him throw deep to Mack Hollins was even remotely going to have high upside?

A horribly designed play called at the worst possible time. Brady pissed down his leg last night.

What is lost in all of the chatter about the trick play is the Dawkins completely missed his block. Like most of you, I thought why bring the Defense to the side of Allen?  But when you look at it again, and again, I'm not sure that was the play AT ALL! Dawkins whiff forces a bad lateral by Samuel that makes Josh go back to his left. I believe the design was for Josh to keep going to keep rolling out to his right.

Look at the routes the receivers are running. Maybe they are clear out routes for a Josh end around if he's supposed to keep going right. If that's the case then that is still a terrible play design. Why are you having the most important player on the team doing that?

If Josh is supposed to actually throw it to someone then it's still poorly designed.

They just play bigger. When I watch the Jets D they more often than not correctly read and react much quicker and they arrive at the ball carrier or receiver with a lot of intensity.

Thats true….and like most of us I thought at the time, why hand the ball to the QB on the left side of the line if everyone was already lured that way. Watching it again, I’m convinced that he was actually supposed to roll RIGHT. Dawkins misses the block, Samuel is blown up on the lateral, and Josh has to reverse direction. A total mess!

100% he was supposed to roll to his right side. The wildcat was supposed to move everyone to the left and Josh was going to run against the grain. But the line collapsed and he had to turn around and go back to his left. At that point he should’ve just ran out of bounds.

there was nothing wrong with the play call per se. The execution was beyond horrible.

Yep, and if you look downfield it doesn’t appear that the receivers had fooled anyone….so I actually wonder if it was even a pass play at all. I have a feeling it was designed to be a naked bootleg run!

Couldn't disagree more.
