What a nice issue to have. You have the younger player that hasn't been perfect...but has been really good. Far better than he was last year. Then a former All Pro coming back.

If I'm the Bills, I don't feel the need to rush Milano back. And when he is back...ease him in. Low snap counts and situation specific. The the kid handle the bulk of the work and slowly ramp Milano up for January.

He's been out since early last season,  they're aren't rushing him back.

This seems to happen with every significant injury,  just when the player is about to return,  some fans think he's being rushed, or want to wait a week or 2 more,  or work him in slowly.

The team knows what they're doing.  They opened a 21 day window to allow him to practice and evaluate his readiness.  That's the opposite of rushing him.

When he plays,  he'll be ready to go.

He's had 4 extra months to strengthen/heal his leg,  and a torn bicep shouldn't be an issue coming back from.

If his leg is 100%, let him loose.

But it's it because of the turf? I don't know.

Maybe we'll at least avoid wrist injuries there.

Milano has not played football in a year and a half.  It is going to take some time to get him ready and in game shape, which argues for a build up type of approach.  That is what I expect the Bills to do, inserting him initially on passing downs and gradually building his reps from there.  If he is the same player, which is a big if until we see it, he will be taking the majority of snaps before the end of the season with Williams relegated to game plan specific formations and occasional rest reps for Milano.  At least that is what I think they will do.

Whether he can be ready for the SF game is an open question.  If he is I expect he will play some, but it would not be surprising if he does not.

It's a snap count.  Pitch count is for baseball.

Williams is not playing great,  he's been adequate.

Milano has sat out enough,  get him in there.  He's a dynamic player whereas Williams is not.  Bernard is a dynamic player, and you see the impact that linebackers can have on a game. Big sack and game ending interception this week.  Can't wait to see Milano out there.

This is a huge addition to the defense.

I find Williams to be the biggest target in moving the sticks through the passing game.  Its either outside between the corner in cover 3, or between bernard and him.  Either way they're layering it and he's always late to the catch point.

It's been a just over 13 months,  a year and a half is 18 months,  so that's a significant difference.

I wouldn't expect 100% of the snaps, but I don't anticipate a long buildup.

There aren't really exclusive 'passing downs' and if your thinking 3rd and long...probably not a lot of those in a game. Teams generally have about 8 drives a game.  He'll play more often than that.

Who do you take off the field to put Williams as the 3rd LB? Groot? AJ?

Not happening.

Let's not overthink this.

you take out your nickel back out in these situations. they have done it many times in the past.

Milano will be on a pitch count like Miller and then production will dictate it after that... do not underestimate the fact that Milano very well may get injured again and soon... I hate saying this.. but its an unfortunate realistic possibility....

Milano's window ends after the 49ers game.  I don't expect him to be activated before that time.

There are limited practices in the bye week, and I suspect OBD sees no need to rush him back.

If he is activated for the 49ers, I don't expect him to play with the exception of injuries.

Once he's activated, I don't expect him to start against the Rams but with any luck he can take snaps later in the game.

My hope is he can play a decent amount against the Lions (especially in passing downs).  The issue of the field should not affect

him as his injuries were not of the knee/hamstring/Achilles types.  His broken leg is fully healed, and a pec injury is not a "field" worry.

After that, the final 3 NE/NYJ/NE games give him all the time he needs to get to 100%.

No way in hell Taron Johnson is coming off the field unless it’s some sort of 4th and 1 inch type situation.

NFL, like any sports, is a show-me-what-you-have-done-yesterday league. Milano has not shown us anything for .. I lost count .. games, and he's no spring chicken that you expect growth. I'd love to have a pro-bowl Milano back. But I'll proceed assuming he's not in that form; in other words, I'm not banking my hope on him to put us over the top this year.

I didn't bank any hope on Von Miller helping us last and this season either. But he showed up this year with sacks now so I expect him to be an important piece on 3rd  down pass rush the rest of the season. In fact, him and Rousseau rushing from edges on a must-have 3rd down stop is probably one of the better pair in NFL in my view.

Nobody should lose their job due to injury especially when the replacement is not anywhere close to your level of play.

It’s really quite simple, they will put MM in for a given percentage of snaps and see how he does, and in theory increase that percentage as his fitness increases, to the point of him playing the majority of snaps, you are correct in that he may or may not see action against SF, I think he will see at least some playing time, jmo.

SO what do you think his play percentage is? 100%? 85%? 75%? who do you think they are bringing in for him? not another slot cb thats for sure

Having Milano, Williams and Bernard is a great thing and will give them a way to add wrinkles if they are so inclined including traditional 4-3 and a capable backup.  It may be the key to better handling a good running team too.
