Seems like a good place to put this.

Snap counts tonight in the snow vs. SF

Matt Milano 38 - 77%

Dorian Williams 0 - 0% (played heavily on ST)
Any other linebacker not named Bernard - 0%

Cam Lewis 11 - 23%

So much for easing Milano in

So much for playing 4-3 base

Milano stats 5 tackles (3 solo, 2 assists)

Bernard had 9 tackles (3 solo, 6 assists)

Johnson and Rapp had 6

Hamlin and Douglas also 5

I am a little shocked we didn’t run heavier on defense at all, but that’s Bills MO and still won huge even with giving up runs.

Honest question. Will Buffalo still play nickel in fourth and inches situations? I know Taron is a stud but he’s not a run stuffer. I think McD should be more flexible rotating guys in… but what the hell do I know… 🤷

This current strategy is obviously a winning formula but with guys like Henry, Mixon, Saquon, Pacheco,  it’s probably not going to be a winning formula to give up 9 yards a carry…

I'm gonna guess that they played dime later in the game the 49ers were down by 3 scores and their run game without McCaffrey wasn't explosive enough to close the gap

119 rush yards for the 49ers in the 1st half

34 rush yards for the 49ers in the 2nd half

I was surprised. He wasn’t playing good either. So it seems they wanted him to get as much rust off as possible.

I don’t know if we actually saw their plan vs SF. I still think Dorian Williams will have a role.

It will be interesting to know how Milano did in the pass game. (Cause he definitely struggled a bit against the run)

Dorian Williams is notorious for biting on PA and usually when teams run PA against the bills, it feels like an easy completion at times.

Yesterday it seemed like Purdy held on the ball longer though, so I wonder if Milano had any impact on being in the right spots and not biting on the PA

I was surprised.  I thought they'd be subbing him out.

It may have had to do with SF getting away from the run due to being behind, and not having that many offensive plays.  Our defense was only on the field 48 plays, of which Milano played 37 and we were in nickel for 11.

A more typical game is 62 defensive plays, so (let's say) they had Milano on a 40 play pitch count, they may just not have reached it.

We play the best running team in the league in 2 weeks. If we don't at least have a sub package with 3 LBs on the field, it's going to be a 9 YPC day for the Lions.

Taron wiffed twice on stopping the runner at the line of scrimmage early in the 1st quarter.  Both were on 3rd downs

Yesterdays game is not a good way to evaluate anything due to the field conditions.  Everyone was SLOW as they hesitated.

Not too many sustained drives for SF, so he probably wasn't extended too much.

I think his pitch count was 0, but his snap count probably around 40.😁

That's true, but he's normally a sure tackler and positions himself well against the run (IMO).

The problem with the Ravens game is that we were starting Baylon Spector and Dorian Williams at LB and Cam Lewis at nickle.

Yeah, yeah, I get you.

His snap count was exactly 37, I gave the exact number in the post to which you're responding.  And folks know what I meant.

You may be right.  But as the wins pile up, I'm starting to think McD and Babich know what they're doing.

Their bend-don't-break approach has given up a bunch of rushing yards, but not a bunch of points.  We're 5th in scoring defense and 2nd in point differential.

True, but watch Milano in the game highlights. He whiffs the tackle or is blocked out of the play again and again and again. But at least he got a lot of reps. He might take several more games to get up to speed.

Milano definitely looked limited out there, he is running with his left arm in an L with heavy bracing.

The snap counts were announced this morning and he only came out when the Bills ran Dime.

This whole an 85% Milano is better than Dorian Williams, he's not at 85%, which is fine, he's coming back from two serious injuries, but I don't understand the thought process to put him right back in as the starter after two weeks of practice.

Dorian right now is more functional than Milano, so why not work him in, instead of full bore.

This^^^^

I really like Williams as an early down backer as he is more stout against the run.  I guess they want Milano in game shape for the playoffs.  He will only get there if he sees playing time.

If milano doesn’t pick up a bunch of reps down the stretch he’s probably nearly useless for the playoffs.  If that game was close we would’ve seen more Dorian I think

milano didn't look good, but no one really did on D for either team, it was a ridiculous drunk game.

Warner is the best LB in the NFL by many accounts, and he wasn't able to do jack on the josh allen TD run.  there was no footing for anyone besides james cook.
