Depth is a great thing to have.

First I think they need to gradually ease Matt Milano back into the lineup sometime after the bye.  See how he's moving post-injury, and let him slowly get back into playing shape.  Don't forget how long it took for both Tre White and Von Miller to start looking like themselves again.

If Milano can regain his pre-injury form by the playoffs, then it's a no-brainer.  He goes back into the starting lineup alongside Terrell Bernard, and the Bills will have the best Linebacker duo in the NFL.

You can also use Dorian Williams in more heavy-run situations, either as a third linebacker or simply replacing Milano/Bernard in the lineup.

I like the kid and he's progressing, but he is far from what a healthy Milano brings.

Here's your winning response.  I love Dorian as solid depth but I'm waiting till Matt's contract ends to say goodbye. Milano when healthy is still an All- Pro.

I am continually impressed by this coaching staff’s work developing players.

Agreed. I'm also continually impressed by the ability of posters here to make definitive and permanent judgements about young players who are still developing... and also veterans easing back in from injury.

trade him for Ertz

1) "I've heard of him!"

2) "Git 'er done!"

3) "He has a ruptured spleen."

4) "The Patriots (Ravens) would be entitled to draft pick compensation."

5) F5

But that is not the right question in the salary cap era.  The question is does Milano's superior talent justify the price difference between the two?  And that's where Dorian is closing the gap.  Dorian on a rookie contract vs. Milano's veteran cap hit is becoming a harder decision.

It all makes for an interesting offseason. Just glad there's a good chance that Milano will be in the starting lineup for the stretch run and playoffs.

I have to imagine they will let Douglas walk in FA and look to resign Benford. Draft a guy to compete with Elam and go from there.

Agree... though I believe Jamarcus Ingram might figure into the situation somehow.

Having Milano, Williams and Bernard is a great thing and will give them a way to add wrinkles if they are so inclined including traditional 4-3 and a capable backup.  It may be the key to better handling a good running team too.

I disagree with your statement about adding wrinkles... Milano's only 30 and he's still handso... youthful looking.

SO what do you think his play percentage is? 100%? 85%? 75%? who do you think they are bringing in for him? not another slot cb thats for sure

Maybe I misunderstood you but I thought you were advocating for a 3 Linebacker set , taking the Nickel corner (T. Johnson) off the field?  Which the Bills have shown they are extremely reluctant to do.
KC game he played 100% of the snaps

I think they should change it up and play 3 LBs maybe 10 snaps or so max.  More than anything, I think we should play more men in the box

100% THAT was my point.  There are 10-20 snaps a game where its obvious running. Or when there is like a pattern of running on first downs.  put 3LB out there.

Can’t even begin to describe how stoked I am for Milano and Bernard to wreak havoc the back 9 of the season!!!!

This weak (if Matt plays) stuff the run of CMC and neutralize kittle!

Ask Mike White

Well done indeed !

Seeing as Milano can cover anything underneath him , almost gives him the box safety vibe.

3 linebackers would be fun to see in an actual 3-4 with  1 tech for a few plays.

 Milano's only 30

I have not done a lot of research, but off the top of my head, off the ball linebackers generally don’t age well. Great ones are around the ball all the time, meaning they are involved in physical contact every play. Secondary guys have that physical contact # greatly reduced. D lineman gets hit every play but they are bigger and usually have a healthy rotation among them.

counting on a 30 year old, often injured Milano is not smart. But if he can be that guy for the last 8 games (including playoffs), then we may indeed have the star lined up for us this year.

I'm still convinced Matt Milano is a huge part of any championship this year. Obviously we won't know his game speed until the snaps start. We do know he can be a game- wrecker when healthy. And pair him with Bernard could be terrifying for opposing OC's.
