Ned Flanders Posted September 27 Posted September 27 The whole scenario was a perfect storm of ineptitude consisting of the owner, local and state government. Just five years ago, Oakland had the Raiders, Warriors, and A's. Now, they're left with nothing. George Plimpton, in the excellent Ken Burns' Baseball series, said of the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn, that a baseball team is more vital to the well being of a city than its orchestra or even its churches. So true. 2 3 Quote
dpberr Posted September 27 Posted September 27 You could make a compelling movie about the Athletics franchise through the decades - with the personalities, skullduggery, politics, and ultimately a treatise on the decline of Oakland from where it was in the 1960s to present day. You'd probably leave the movie convinced the only decent guy in the entire film was Connie Mack. Quote
