Kirby Jackson Posted September 25 Posted September 25 This is one of the more interesting stories that I’ve seen in a long time. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/41430604/unlv-qb-matthew-sluka-no-longer-play-rebels-representations-were-not-upheld I’m generally one that sides with the player and not the league/institution. In this case, I am based on the I do out there. Supposedly he was promised $100K and didn’t get it. His representation followed up many times and they offered him $3k a month for 4 months. Shame on him for not having a contract in place but shame on those that made false promises. Quote

Mr. WEO Posted September 25 Posted September 25 This kid's story makes no sense. This is the NIL era. Money is offered, agreements signed---there's no curtain to hide behind anymore. An assistant coach isn't the entity that will be paying this kid, so claiming he made the offer is dumb. Who is this kid's agent? Cam Newton's dad? NIL is an agreement between the player and the payer, i.e.: a company (as their spokesperson), an organization (boosters) or individuals). No agent would even listen to a "verbal agreement". Quote

No agent would even listen to a "verbal agreement". Turns out the kid's agent isn't a licensed agent in Nevada or registered with the state. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/matthew-slukas-nil-fallout-with-unlv-raises-questions-about-agents-unregistered-status-in-nevada/ Quote The Nevada Secretary of State office has no record of Sluka's agent, Marcus Cromartie, as a registered sports agent in the state, a spokeswoman for the state's SOS office told CBS Sports. Blueprint Sports CEO Rob Sine initially told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday morning that Cromartie is not a registered sports agent and confirmed that fact with CBS Sports, sharing "we were introduced to the agent less than a month ago for the first time … we informed (the agent) that he was not registered with the state or with the school and that he needed to be." Cromartie told ESPN earlier Wednesday that Sluka left UNLV after an unfulfilled NIL promise of $100,000. Cromartie is with the agency Equity Sports, which represents numerous NFL players, most notably Patrick Mahomes. The 33-year-old is a former Wisconsin football player and cousin of former NFL stars Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Antonio Cromartie. It gets even weirder. Apparently Blueprint Sports, which runs the NIL collective for UNLV and U of Nevada was founded by the current Secretary of State for the state of Nevada. Edited September 26 by GASabresIUFan Quote

Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Cancel 'Basketweaving 101' and 'Microwave Cooking 101' courses. All collegiate football players now are required to take 'Contractual Law for Dummies 101'. 2 Quote
May Day 10 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 It sounds like UNLV is saying the agent was trying to shake them down for money after the fact. Quote
thenorthremembers Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Cant find the video or the tweet now, but apparently Sluka got his 100k. Once they beat Kansas and Houston he and his parents decided he was worth 300k, when he and his agent asked for the additional money the Coach told him no. Once he heard no he quit. 1 Quote
Saxum Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Any NFL team should be wary of him when draft time comes. Quote
