Mr. Brightside: is this a thing now?

It’s funny because it’s one of those energy/happy songs of which the subject matter is kinda dark.  No one really knows that until they deep dive into the lyrics.  Similar to Gin Blossoms - “Hey Jealousy”.. a song that you’ll sing at the top of your lungs with the boys at a bar and then realize it’s so, so depressing.

Mr Brightside is a song sung from the perspective of a man who’s into a woman - maybe someone he’s crushing on/maybe an ex, and she’s now sleeping with another man and he can’t stop thinking about it.

The white guys definitely love it, but I don’t know.. Cook & Hollins looked right at home.

Ever hear "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" by the Smiths?

Two things I've been wishing they'd do for a while but not sure if they can due to licensing issues:

When Rousseau makes a big play, I'd like the PA to blast the "I am Groooot" sound bite from a Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

When Bass makes a kick, I always thought it would be funny if they played a "Bass-o-matic" soundbite from Dan Aykroyd on SNL. Granted, I've had this idea for so long that Tyler Bass no longer IS Bass-o-matic, and also most people today would probably have no idea who the hell Dan Aykroyd is.

I've always thought the Bills -- and all pro football teams, really -- vastly underuse the "fan traditions and singalongs" part of sports. You watch Premiere League soccer and thousands of fans are singing songs specific to certain players, doing chants, choreographed multi-part call and response...it's wild. Football fans just kind of....get drunk and yell at the top of their voices. Just a generic din.

I’m not a fan of stealing other people’s traditions (generally). With that being said, I don’t hate the idea of “borrowing” “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Liverpool. It’s kind of on brand too. The Bills Mafia is the most “ride or die” fan base in American Sports. They certainly have that reputation. That kind of “we are always here” message would be wild.

Yes, I came here to post.  It definitely seems to have started in the NE 'perfect game'.  That game was a party in the stands, it was an extended break and they played it and it was a huge sing-along.  They dabbled with it since then, but the past few games, it seems like more of a staple/ritual.

I think its been a Michigan Wolverines thing for awhile

It’s been the closer song since the NE game.  They just started doing the karaoke thing with it this year.

the other song form the NE game I wish they’d bring back is I feel good by pit bull.  You’re right; the perfect game was a party, and this sort of exorcism  of the

patriots’ dominance of us.  I get chills when I hear those songs thinking about what it was like in the stands for that game.

Its a perfect song for that moment like last night because its energetic song that everyone knows the lyrics to…and its a good song.

Everyone?   Suddenly I feel old and left out.  I don't know a single lyric of that song.

Let me put a Doors song on my turntable and contemplate my loneliness.

When someone says that, I always think of Rocking in the Free World by Neil Young, or of course Born in the USA by Springsteen. Both songs are almost 'prostest-level' songs about what is wrong in the country, yet because the chorus is memorable they are often used as uplifting songs, especially at political events or at sporting events between nations.

It's a metaphor for life itself. As Bills fans, we can relate to having the thing we want most slip through our fingers, time and time again. The message of the song is instead of letting jealously and bitterness rot your life away, embrace your destiny and become Mr. Brightside.

So, it sounds like the Jaguars should have been singing that song Monday.

After a couple of warm lagers I could see the whole stadium pairing up and slow dancing when this banger comes on.

The song is 21 years old. Give it a listen, it's one of those tunes that grows on you.

Brightside has been the go-to 2AM drunk bar song for decades now. If you're puzzled by the choice I'm guessing you haven't made it past 10PM this millennium. Fun fact: It's also the UK National Anthem (iykyk).

Wish it was a Wu-Tang song but it’ll do.

Did they do this last year or start this season?

Those in the stadium, how fired up did you get?

They play Mr. Brightside in the 4th quarter of every game.  I know all of last season and possibly longer.
