I truly appreciate this moment: we have one of the best teams in the league, and possibly the best;  we have one of the best QB's in the league, and possibly the best; and we have the best game of the weekend, on SNF.

 

We went to the fan version of hell and back since the Kelly years - but the payoff is good.

I've been strangely calm since Brady took over last season, I expect the same this week. McDermott has had Lamar's number for a while now. Good test , let's go.

Well, I don't have my pitchfork out. Just want to see more from him, that's all. He's getting paid a lot of money. Would you say you've noticed him making an impact outside of one big play against the Dolphins?

 

To each their own.  We’re 5th in the league in sacks.  Sacks aren’t just generated by one person making the sack.  Sacks are often a result of the entire defensive line keeping in their lanes and containing the QB in the pocket so one guy can reap the stat.  
 

Ed has not been a “noticeable weakness”.   That proclamation is noticeably weak

Derrick Henry I feel fine against.  We have answered that question before and it feels like penetration from the DL is critical (as you mention) to slow him down so the rest of the team can get him down. 

 

As for the slowest set of safeties they managed to limit the leagues fastest set of skill players in miami just fine.  I will acknowledge this is a slightly different problem because baltimore will happily stay with the run but it wont be "speed" that gets us.  I worry more about processing from the second level when its play action.  That said we sorta played a very similar offense (but with better outside weapons) week 1.  Conners and that run game is very efficient and Kyler is probably the closest to Lamar's skill set.  I think they are too good to be stopped but I think we have played a very similar offense.  

If you scrap nickel, it has to be morrow right?  Still need to cover either or andrews or likely in the middle.  I think we stay with Lewis.

Mark Andrews is shot. Likely is the one I am far more concerned about. He actually reminds me a ton of Kincaid

Yeah 0 and 00 are both green if you actually didn't know that.  This is how the house keeps an advantage on that game. Instead of being 50% odds, its 47.4%.

Speaking of beef and feet, Mike Williams had small feet... at least compared to Bryant McKinnie.

Didn't announcers visibly say Ed was a force in Miami game? 

 

I thought Ed was hard to see in half #1 of the cards game, but otherwise has been active since. 

 

Tough to make statistical judgements in two other games that were both over by halftime.

I mean it isn't just what my eyes are telling me. That chart I posted says he is winning on pass rushes at a below league average rate despite getting bottom of the league double team rates. If you want to claim the chart is wrong, or that we have the only defensive scheme that asks our 3T to play patty cake in his gap more than we ask him to try and rush the passer, go for it.

 

And for what it's worth I'm not an Ed Oliver hater. My own eyes tell me he has been quite good as a run stopper this season (I don't have a chart for that one). I also thought he was quite good overall last year in both areas and exceeded my expectations. As a pass rusher this season though I have been underwhelmed especially relative to the size of his paycheck.

I apologize if this has already been shared. This is a praise sandwich of Oliver’s performance against Miami.

 

Considering Baltimore’s starting interior O line is banged up ( left guard doubtful and center questionable with a knee ), I believe Oliver is a major X factor in this contest. He needs to wreak havoc.

I’m not claiming anything about the chart being correct or not.  I’m claiming that he’s not a noticeable weakness, because he’s not.  

 

I agree, ed has been “underwhelming as a pass rusher”.  That’s not what you said prior.  A noticeable weakness is something that can be taken advantage of and is hurting our team.  Ed’s run D and discipline in his rush lanes have been part of our defenses success.
