Gugny Posted Monday at 01:43 AM Share Posted Monday at 01:43 AM Six years ago, I shared my house with my wife, my son, three cats and a dog. Wife left me 5 years ago. Dog died shortly thereafter. One cat passed away three months ago … a few weeks after my son moved out. Another passed last week. So now it’s just me and one cat. Her name is Lazy. She’s 14. Since the last cat passed, Lazy has been clingy and noisy. I can’t watch Jeopardy. I can’t enjoy Mets games. I might lock her downstairs tomorrow night so I can enjoy the Bills game. I feel like I’m down to two choices: 1. Get another cat to keep Lazy company 2. Bring Lazy to the vet to have her euthanized. I’m on a fixed income, so I’m leaning (heavily) toward euthanasia. I’ve been saddled with these animals for the last 20+ years. I get another kitten now and I’m stuck until I ***** retire. Just throwing it out there to see what you guys would do. My mom rescues cats & gives them to her teacher coworkers, but asked that I watch one of them at my place. 2 weeks later I come home & there's 4 newborn kittens in my damn closet! That cat was pregnant, but nobody knew because she was rail thin & only about a year old herself. Well the vet said can't separate the kittens from the mom for 7 weeks, so we raised them at my house. Got 2 of them adopted, but 2 are still here. And that's not including the 1 cat I already owned (similar story, wife left & I got stuck with 1 dog & 1 cat) or the mom. They're super sweet & absolutely adore each other, so I've been hesitant to let them go unless someone can adopt both together. Hard to say how much longer it will live on its own. If it's sick it's sick and it's a different conversation, but I didn't get that impression. I'm still trying to figure out how my question was out of line. Let your son know about your decision and he might tell her. Alternately compromise - get another old cat needing a home and rename it after your ex-wife.
