I too, have many great memories of Silver Stadium...to add to yours, the annual Oriole exhibition game, which was a highlight of the summer, bat day, helmet night, and others.  Saw many great players come up and I remain an Oriole fan to this day.  Al Bumbry, Mike Flanagan, Bobby Grich, Don Baylor, Dennis Martinez, Mike Mussina, and like you mention, Cal, who spent the 1981 strike season playing at Silver.  Silver was a special place indeed.

i grew up in Rochester, and was a paper boy for the D&C. They had this newspaper boy day, where all the kids got to run the bases at Silver Stadium and get autographs. During one of those days, I got an autograph of this young unknown player named Curt Schilling!

I grew up in Hamburg, and went to an AHL BISONS game vs the Hershey Bears in Buffalo about 1969.

I moved to Rochester and went to Red Wing games, but no one else wants to go anymore, so I drifted away from the Americans and the Sabres.

I mostly watch the Stanley Cup finals.

maybe this was just my experience, but growing up in Rochester when I did (80s), no one really followed the sabres. You’d go to a few amerks games, but that’s about it.

Yes. I used to be a Red Sox fan until they hired cheater Alex Cora as their manager. He cheated in Houston and cheated his first year in Boston when they won their last World Series ring. I follow a different mlb team every year now for fun. When the Red Sox fire him I may go back (*may).

Does Pro Wrestling count? I used to be a huge wrestling nerd, traveled all over to go to some great shows, spent lots of money on lots of tickets, and now, I couldn’t even name 80% of the roster. I’ll still watch some big shows here and there, and Triple H seems to have WWE in a pretty good state at the moment, it’s just not the same though.  Watching so many of your childhood heroes either die or fall apart well before their time just takes its toll. I’m glad to see WWE doing right by the legends who did make it to the later stages of the game however, and the wrestlers of this current generation are at least much more protected than those in eras past.

Posting this here... I am no longer a Pirates fan.

The Pirates now have the worst owner in sports in Bob Nutting.

Nutting has intentionally signed cheap talent or traded for it and has the second lowest payroll in all of MLB.

Nutting designated a player who needed one more game for a bonus in Rowdy Tellez.

Nutting is now lowballing Skenes and will probably trade him like he does everyone else.

Nutting REFUSES to sell, intending to pass it down to his family.

I am now choosing to be a Cubs fan... great history, great fans like the Bills, AND as a bonus they play the Pirates a ton every season.

No longer a fan after almost 50 years. Dan Snyder has NOTHING on this POS.

nutting doesn’t understand the entire purpose of being a pro sports owner. You can’t just run the team to basically be profitable. What’s the point? You own this team for enjoyment and fun. You need to operate it in a manner that will increase that enjoyment!

He can still make a solid profit while really investing in the success of the team. But he seems to run the team now like some penny-pinching private equity nerd— only trying to absolutely maximize profits. It’s so dumb.

(And, to think, he’s doing this while squandering probably the greatest young pitcher in decades).

MLB perpetuates this through the revenue sharing which was SUPPOSED to help small market teams but it is only acting as owner welfare.

Now what I have to do is mail all of my Pirates gear to the club with a brief non vulgar letter as a final F U to Nutting.

The only team I ever stopped following was the Buffalo Braves/San Diego Clippers.  Loved the Buffalo Braves as a kid...was heartbroken when they moved to San Diego...I really tried to keep following them...but at the point in time, trying to follow an west-coast NBA team was near impossible.  They were never on tv, and box-scores might appear in the Courier Express two days after the fact.  I switched allegiances to the Celtics.  It was the early days of cable, and we could watch every Celtics game on the Boston super station.  I hated them when the Braves were in town...but my older brother and father were both Celitcs fans from the pre-Braves era of the NBA, so it wasn't as bad a leap as it sounds.

I did like the Montreal Expos as a kid (Bills colors), but kinda lost interest in baseball early on.

My love of the Sabres is on life-support right now...I still watch most games, but they are starting to be nothing but depressing.  I think about ditching them every season...but something keeps me holding on.  It gets a little harder each year...

The Bills?  No, I will never stop pulling for them...as hard as this ***** is right now, I still love team..

I mean yeah the loss last night sucks but the Bills are one of the best teams in the NFL right now, there should be no reason for you to stop pulling for them lol
