SCBills Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Seems to be some momentum on this.. enough to make Chris Hayes all worked up. Not gonna lie .. after Dems changed voting laws last minute in multiple states right before the 2020 election, this would be the funniest thing the GOP could do. 1 2
Backintheday544 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 They’re just pushing it now because Maine passed their deadline to change. NB is held up by 1 Republican who used to be a Dem that said he would never go for it. It’s really pointless anyway. The only way this affects the election is if it’s 269-269. Then it would most likely be Trump as President and Walz as Vice. Trumps old as hell and eats terribly. I’d put my money on an eventual Walz presidency in the next 4 years under this. 3
B-Man Posted September 20 Posted September 20 OH NO ! They might switch to the same system used by 48 other states !!! Dems are funny. 1 1
Tiberius Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Thank God for Robinson in North Carolina! None of this should matter Think about it, trying to make the undemocratic EC even less democratic 👎 1

Republicans are weak and, unlike Dems, refuse to gain/keep power by any means necessary. Closest they’ve ever gotten to Dem strategy is McConnell with the Supreme Court. No one else has the guts to play for keeps like Democrats do. I give this a .01% chance of happening. Only reason I give it any chance at all is because Lindsey Graham flew to Nebraska to meet with their GOP about this, so there is, at least, an attempt, to think about it.

Going to have to fill me in because things are going pretty well in Georgia and Kemp has one of the highest approval ratings in the country, so whatever you’re referring to clearly isn’t too crazy.

Ya you Nazis with your fake electors schemes, election fraud lies and scapegoating of immigrants are all about fair place. Wow 2
ChiGoose Posted September 20 Posted September 20 You gotta enjoy that the argument they are using for this change is the same as the argument for abolishing the electoral college as a whole: let the people speak 2
nedboy7 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Georgia hand count is a prime example of Trumpers' blatant mental illness. 1
nedboy7 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Hopefully Maine will follow Nebraska now to even this BS out.

Here's a hint- if you gamble, give it up. I think the odds are a bit better for it happening. They're gonna fight, bite and claw for that 1 electoral vote. I think they're very worried at this point. And what's this nonsense about R's refusing to use any means necessary to win? D's have never organized an insurrection and a fake elector scheme
Joe Ferguson forever Posted September 20 Posted September 20 (edited) nice piece with some important info https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/09/trumps-electoral-college-power-play-in-nebraska-is-a-troubling-sign-of-things-to-come/ It’s hardly a done deal. Pillen has said he won’t call a special session unless legislators demonstrate they have a filibuster-proof majority, and as Nebraska Democrats have pointed out, they don’t have the votes right now. According to the Nebraska Examiner, there’s at least one key holdout with a conflicting professional interest—Republican state Sen. Mike McDonnell, a former Democrat who is reportedly considering running for mayor of Omaha next year. He might want to avoid being known in Omaha as the guy who made Omaha irrelevant. In one of the world’s least reassuring statements, a spokesperson told the ExaminerThursday that McDonnell was opposed to any change “as of today.” Whether Nebraska changes the rules or not, though, Graham’s gambit, and the pressure from the Trump campaign, offers an ominous glimpse of a future that looks a lot like the recent past. One of the dominant storylines following Trump’s loss in the 2020 election was the pressure campaign he and his allies mounted on individual Republican officeholders all the way up until January 6. Trump, for instance, invited Michigan Republican lawmakers to the White House and called Republicans in Wayne County to try to pressure them to oppose the certification of Detroit’s election results. He asked Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger in a phone call to “find” a few thousand votes that would put him over the top. Graham, as it happens, also talked to Raffensperger Edited September 20 by Joe Ferguson forever

For the record, I could care less at this point. Yall removed your candidate because he was going to lose and replaced him with someone who received zero votes. I hope the GOP does go through with this in Nebraska, and I hope Youngkin and Kemp instituting voter roll purges and new election law delivers the election for Trump. If any of this is the deciding factor, I will come back to this board and laugh in yalls faces. You opened this Pandoras Box and I hope the GOP now obliterates it. 1 1

ChiGoose Posted September 20 Posted September 20 You gotta love that MAGA always goes back on “well, the Dems did it first*” any time they’re doing something shady. Can’t rely on principles or being the better man. Can’t say “they did it, but it’s beneath us” They’re not even good people in their own minds. *regardless of the truth 2
Backintheday544 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Stuff like this and what the GOP is pulling in PA is why Harris first act should be to get PR and DC as states. republicans won’t have the senate for a long while with 4 new Dem senators. Abolish the senate filibuster. Stuff the Supreme Court with the most liberal judges possible. GOP wants to play politics, about time to one up them. 1
