I neither love or hate him. My comment is that his Contract was a terrible signing for the production that the Bills have gotten for it. I truly hope that is the last time the organization pens another similar deal. They rarely work. Build your team through the draft around a franchise QB and Offensive Line and fill holes as they come up with mid-scale veterans.

I respect this take but again, why the tone of final judgement?

What if Von has 4 sacks in 3 playoff games and the Bills win the Super Bowl?

Not directed exclusively at you but is there some crime that I'm not aware of that prohibits waiting to see how the season ends?

He’s looked cooked for a while, but to be fair, give him 2-3 weeks to get in to game shape.

I don’t think it will make any difference, but always hoping.

We have no other option. I'm hoping maybe during the playoffs he comes through.  Idk man... it really feels like our defense is better when he's not out there. He even had a crucial Offside penalty too. He's our defensive version of DeShaun Watson,  you can't sit someone when you're paying them so much money.

Because we've been waiting for years. This team is better without him in the lineup. We don't have time to wait...

I'm glad you acknowledge that some of your frustration comes from the defense as a whole. Again, I view the game as just a superb performance by the Dolphins, their QB, and their Head Coach/playcaller. That group has put up big numbers over the years and the fact that we've generally dominated them doesn't mean it'll happen each time. I give credit to the opponent. Playing like that Miami was gonna rack up yards and points against anyone.

Yes. Von played 21 of 60 snaps. It looked to me like most of his snaps came in the 4th quarter.

This is what I saw also.

In his 21 snaps Von was not doing the Epenesa thing (AJs actually gotten better about this) of immediately losing contain on plays. Von was setting the edge and holding the point for run plays before then focusing on the QB. On the run plays he kept the runner inside. On his pass rushes only once did he lose QB contain and on that play he was hunting Tua from behind but couldn't catch up to him before the throw. This is what I saw. With only a few exceptions, Tua continued his pattern of getting the ball out quickly.

I don't understand the rush to judgement from the many Von haters here. He has 3 sacks in 114 snaps. Not all of those 114 snaps were pass plays. His pressure and sack rate are very good for how much he's played.

I don't understand why people feel the need to pass final judgement on players halfway through a season where the important work is still in front of us and where his sample size has yielded good results.

Defense as a whole yes, not just Von.

And I think our lightish LBs are dropping like flies because so many backs and blockers are hitting them with a full head of steam at the second level.

Of course I remember too well the one 3rd down where we did finally stop them and Von was Offside and gave them the fresh set of downs so was salty about that.

There were attempts to set the edge and string out the zone runs, but mixed results as they usually churned out 5 or more yards

And even when our ends did the right thing, strung things out and turned the runner back inside there was no one picking up the cut back lanes.

Glad for the win against a desparate Miami squad, but defensive scheme, players, or both left me with anything but warm fuzzies.

Not taking anything away from Miami, if that owner blows things up I think that would be foolish as I did not see a lot of quit in that team we played.

Huh? Do we have a choice? We are just fans. Neither you nor I is putting in plays, players, or strategies. Unless maybe you have inside information and all of this has been a grand sandbagging strategy.

Hint: Check out DeAndre Hopkins playing for the Chiefs tonight.

People will bend over backwards to defend this utter waste of a contract. Do I think McBeane should be fired because of it…no. But it’s been a real loser of a deal.

It was a reach but I was still happy bringing him in. His injury was unfortunate but the fact he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend is despicable.

I wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true.

He made multiple strong plays against the run yesterday.

Sorry you didn't see them.

The All-22 should show what you’re referencing. Watching on TV it’s hard to see what’s really going on.

Von Miller had an excellent day yesterday.   He caused hurried incomplete throws and without his pressure Austin doesn't get the int.

Having him back with his body rested is going to serve us well for the playoffs.

With 4th sack today, he has reached another $1.5M incentive ($2.5M total).

Good for him.

I guess it counts against next years cap.

he celebrated that windfall by taking the rest of the game off.  Probably not the incentive effect Beane was hoping for

28. Buffalo Bills

Biggest mistake: Signing Von Miller to a six-year, $120 million contract (2022)

When you remember that the Bills' 2021 postseason ended with those 13 seconds, it's easy to understand why they went all-in to add Miller. The future Hall of Famer was coming off a wildly impressive postseason run to a Super Bowl title with the Rams, and Buffalo surely wanted a great pass rusher to put it over the top as it tried to figuratively and literally chase down Patrick Mahomes.

To land Miller, though, the Bills had to fully guarantee two years and most of a third season at the cost of $45 million. That was a big risk for a player who was about to turn 33 and for a roster that was paying Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and Tre'Davious White significant salaries. The Miller deal was a Super Bowl-or-bust move.

Buffalo's worst nightmare came true when Miller tore an ACL for the second time in his career before the end of his debut season in Buffalo. He racked up eight sacks in 11 games before the injury, but since returning, he has played 22 games and managed four sacks while typically playing about 35% of the defensive snaps. He was also suspended four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy and will likely be released after this season. General manager Brandon Beane struck out with his big free agent swing.

Thanks. I wanted to read the article, but don't subscribe to ESPN+. Is it worth it?

Not saying your overall analysis is wrong by any means but the injury derailed everything so it’s tough to assign full blame for the thought process behind the signing imo.  We were likely a top flight pass rusher away and with the start he had it was looking like Von was gonna be just that.

I can see why beane pulled the trigger on it, heck if we beat out the rams for that midseason von trade the year before yea it would’ve lost us some resources long term but I think there’s a very good chance it would’ve been us holding the trophy.  If anything I think beanes biggest regret is not grabbing him sooner.  He was a beast for LA in that superbowl run

I agree with this. Signing Miller wasn't a mistake; it was a decision that didn't work out. We have no way of knowing how much he would have contributed if he hadn't injured his knee.  He looked good before it happened; he hasn't had his special magic since he came back.  In Detroit, he did his job and played his position, but he never really won one-on-one.  Still, there's time. Two or three timely sacks in the playoffs will make everyone happy the Bills have him.

Hey, if they win a Super Bowl nobody is ever going to think of it as a bad move. The entire team will be immortalized by bills fans. Just finish this thing. He still makes big plays they just don’t let him be out there enough. McDermotts defensive philosophies are as frustrating as they are fruitless

Ha, it will still be seen as a bad move (unless he balls out in the playoffs), but nobody will care. The Chiefs drafting Edwards-Helaire with a first round pick was a bad move, but I doubt they are losing sleep over it.

when  was the last time Miller was seen alive?

He's winning a lot of reps and affecting both the pass and run game.

It's infrequent because of his usage, but it is there.

I expect them to cut him loose when it counts in a few weeks; I just hope his conditioning is where it needs to be.
