The chatter around the Worthy trade isn't rational

The worthy obsession by some to me is the most tedious TBD crusade in a long time - and that's saying a lot.

The thing is - he could average 1 catch a game and have 3 total TDs the rest of the year - but every catch and TD we'll get barraged with inane "Thanks Beane!" and "OMG AND WE GAVE HIM AWAY" posts ad nauseum.  F him

And even if we preferred Coleman for what we want to do over Worthy, does it make sense to allow the team we are trying to get past to have that weapon?  If we don’t make the trade, it’s possible another team takes Worthy before the Chiefs get him.  And at least we aren’t the ones to blame for it then.

Dwayne Carter and a Wr they likely liked more for Worthy?  Why wouldnt they make that trade?

If you understand defense go watch the tape when Worthy is on the field. It’s not just the stuff he did in terms of the TD’s but how the defense adjusts coverage to account for him. That helps a guy like Rice get 100 yards. So many people seem to miss this concept. It’s what the Bills are missing, we have no one teams are worried about in that same way.

Great points and analysis.   The thing that continues to add context to how the BILLS ARE LOOKED AT WITH moves like this , and an inescapable fact is the way mcd / beane have managed this franchise has not only resulted in mahomes , worthy, even araiza , and also KC jumpimg beane in a draft forcing us to end up with Elam ,,,,, is the KC regime Has 3 Lombardi trophies , working on possibly an unprecedented 3 peat !   Meanwhile our vaunted braintrust , who I think are honorable, kind, reverent men , have continued to add to this franchises legacy of being one of the few franchises left in the entire NFL to have ZERO Lombardi trophies , and their moves certainly on draft day have AT LEAST NOT HURT , IF NOT POSSIBLY EVEN ENHANCED KC’s run as an elite team.   They may be mentioned with teams like the 49’ ers, the Steelers, the Cowboys, and the old time Packers .

When hired , they stated as their mission to bring a Lombardi to Buffalo, and while questionable drafting ( other than Allen ) and free agent moves having unfortunately turned into large sums of lost $ , and we have trended in the wrong direction having never even gotten back to the afc championship game.
Meanwhile, the chiefs braintrust seems to continue separating themselves not just from the bills , who have the most visible 3 playoff losses to their  recent  “trading partner” , lol , the CHIEFS keep separating themselves from the other 30 teams as well.   My point is if BILLS fans don’t want to hear , or feel it’s fair to be associated with the KC / worthy success and associated trades, then actually DO SOMETHING FINALLY;  FINALLY WIN AT LEAST one championship , and build a legacy to talk about rather that being the poster franchise for futility!  We are still the only afc east team without that trophy; heck even the former creamsickle  BUCS  who McKay wished famously to execute, have eventually won a Lombardi.  Yes a once laughable franchise somehow found success!

The worthy trade, deserved or not being laid at Beanes feet, plus all the other mahomes stuff etc , ALL GOES AWAY FOREVER if mcd/ beane finally deliver what they promised.  JUST ONCE!    Until that happens , even as a devout fan since ‘63, I can’t help but still see this braintrust as continuing to make questionable, and even at times , laughable moves that fuels the criticism they are getting.  Heck , even the pats guy with the ridiculous haircut on the macafee show, stopped the show today, to loudly say every franchise should hate the BILLS right now.   lol, man , macafee rarely allows his guys to be that outrageously negative about another franchise , cuz it like your dog crapping where he sleeps or eats; it just doesn’t happen when your livelihood depends on staying in the good graces of all franchises.  Bills bring it on themselves and only they can stop it.   😂😁🤣🤡

Look prepared , start with a home opener win, let’s see the new progression Brady is preaching, how bout outcoaching a new head coach , and is it too much to hope to not be run over , get a sack or two , and not see MHJ out duel our Hyde/ Poyer replacements?   And maybe we could even show off Coleman’s value in the redzone , and just that type of start will shut down most of the chatter!  Let’s see some action , anything but a post game presser filled with “ I’m sure ______________ wants a few plays back”!       ✌️😊

You’re right about the blocking.

But that speed we saw… that can’t be taught. It was impressive.

The speed is incredible - he's fast.

But we knew that, as did the other teams that passed on him.  Aside from the 2 big plays (and I know he also changed the defense), he wasn't targeted much. I'm curious to see how it goes the rest of the season, especially after Brown comes back.

It's actually insane - here & nationally.

He had 2 big plays yesterday.  The 1st TD was some of the best blocking I've seen in awhile, and reflective of how good Reid is.  Most fast receivers get that TD.  The 2nd TD was a completely blown coverage, and pretty much ANY WR would have gotten a TD on.

He's incredibly fast - but we knew that before the draft.  The internet went crazy last night blaming the Bills and Beane - as though we didn't expect the guy to make some plays in one of the best offenses, with one of the best QB's and best offensive minds in the game?

But that's beside the point.  In all likelihood, KC would have gotten Worthy by standing pat in that draft.  Instead, we traded - and not only got Coleman, but Bishop as well.  People keep saying that if Worthy outperforms Coleman, it will look terrible for the Bills....but what if Bishop turns into a top safety?

It's almost like it's in the national psyche that KC always bests the Bills.  That will probably turn out to be a good trade for both teams, but the hot take reaction was so over the top anti-Bills.

You’re rationalizing the story badly. If Worthy turns into a star and Coleman does not, Beane is an idiot. No ifs, no buts, no coconuts….

And Beane is the most overated GM the Bills have ever had.bHis drafts from Edmunds - 2022 get about a C grade…. That’s it.

His FA moves are in the realm of crazy. The Diggs trade, The Diggs contract and especially the Diggs second contract….Ooof!

Paying Von like he is at the peak of his career and for so long, just nuts. Why did he give Star and Knox so much money?! WTF is he doing? He is doing it again with Dawkins and TJ….Negotiate Beane! It is like he thinks making players the highest paid is a good thing. I’m afraid to see what we paid Brown, he is not a top notch RT….

we don’t beat KC in the playoffs because their team is better than ours with the exception of the boneheaded :13 sec move and the injury to Tre White….

If the 2023 and 2024 don’t really impress this year, I’m gonna puke, because that means it’s all over…..

Were never gonna beat them because they have much better decision makers….

This is excessively negative.

And let’s be honest. If KC had traded with us and we took Worthy, most everyone on this forum would be laughing at KC after last night.

The rose colored glasses of fandom strike.

If we drafted Worthy and he did the exact same thing with Josh Allen in his 1st game, not a single person here would be downplaying it. No one would be saying nonsense such as "Any WR could score on that reverse," or "It was a blown coverage he did nothing special." There would be a dozen threads on him. Let's discuss who's rational though.

And we'd be stuck w/ a great speed guy who would never have a chance to replace Diggs or be our #1.

It wasn’t Bishop that the picked turned into, it was DeWayne Carter.

I agree with everything else here though.

The horror.

When you need a #1 and have to replace Diggs?

Maybe horror is extreme, but it's not what we needed.  He is a complementary piece in KC's offense, and he'd be the same here. Our needs were different.

Not just here the entire national media today is trashing Beane for the trade the Bills don’t really get a lot of positive press nationally anymore.

Even if they didn’t like Worthy for their offensive schemes, they should know enough about what their #1 nemesis is going to want, the fastest WR ever, and not help them get that guy.  But maybe McD is looking forward to the challenge of Rapp & Hamlin trying to protect over top and then Rice, Kelce & Pacheco tearing us apart underneath.

The draft can't be mainly about blocking rivals from getting players.

The thing is neither is rational.  Both sides of these "comparisons" are just "over the top".  Week 1 isn't even in the books yet.

It was a draft.  Both teams picked Wide Receivers.  Both will be judged eventually on how they helped their respective teams over

the next 4 years (maybe longer, maybe shorter).  That would be the "rational" thing to do.
