We Need a New Punter

Sam Martin in the worst starting punter in the league. I present to you the PFF grades for the preseason. He is below a bunch of punters that were released.

I’ll take a place kicker first. Relying on Bass scares me more than a shanked punt here and there.

That’s interesting. To the eye, I actually thought he looked pretty good in preseason. And I’m not a big Sam Martin fan. Thought he hit it well.

I am much more concerned about holding for Bass. If our punter cost us 20 yards a game it is nothing compared to costing us 3 points on a FG

Agree with majority need a new FG before a punter. Hopefully we don't punt much lol

Sample size for pre-season punts seems too small to be doing rankings.

I know he shanked a ball in the first game but I don't really remember him being that bad besides that.  Maybe my expectations are so low it clouds my judgement.

He is a pretty medicore punter

 

Is he the worst? Probably not.

 

But he is probably somewhere in the 22-28 range

For offense/defense, i'd agree.

But if there is one group that doesn't depend on game-planning, it's special teams. In this instance, the suckage remains a valid concern.

When the logic for backup QB is “it doesn’t matter because if Josh is hurt we’re screwed anyway,” why would the punter expectations/qualifications be any different?
