Commanders trade WR Jahan Dotson to the Eagles. Would you have done this move if you ran the Bills?

I don’t mean to pick on you, but I’m honestly sick of everyone saying we need to fix our perceived issues at WR by acquiring someone from another organization. Honestly that’s all Beane has done for most part except Davis.  Diggs, Saunders, Crowder, Brown, Beasley, Samuel, McKenzie, Sherfield Hollins, MVS, Harty etc… Sometimes it worked great (Diggs, Beasley) and sometimes it didn’t, but it’s not a sustainable team building model.   Just look at how hard it's been during this camp to get quality WR depth when you’re hiring castoffs from other organizations.

Investing and developing our own skill players has been long overdue. It saves significant cap space and helps the team grow together. Cook, Shakir, Kincaid, and Coleman have all been drafted in the last 3 years and our team is the better for it.  Coleman is actually the 1st top 64 pick Beane has used on a WR during his tenure.I just wish Beane had drafted a 2nd WR in this past draft.

More to the point, it's time to give Shakir his shot at being the top WR threat.  His numbers last year, his first year really utilized in the offense, is very reminiscent of Diggs’s rookie season, except Shakir caught everything thrown his way and was more explosive.

Shakir 39/45 611 15.7 2TDs 86.7% Success% 73.3%

Diggs  52/84 720 13.8 4TDs 61.9% Success% 46.6%

We don’t need Aiyuk, or Dotson or ________ .  We need to continue the draft and develop path.  I look at GB and love what they are building with Love at QB.  In 2022 & 2023 they drafted 4 WRs and 2 TEs; some with premium picks and some with middle round picks, but all given an opportunity and all are contributing. It past time we did the same and Cook, Shakir, Coleman and Kincaid are a very good start, but they are not enough.

I'd agree if we had actually drafted many WRs.  They invested a 4th in Gabe Davis and seem to have gotten lucky with Shakir in the 5th.

Certainly need to give Coleman time, but I'd rather ease him in than throw him to the wolves year 1 with so much riding on his ability to quickly take on the NFL game.

Besides Diggs, the Bills have largely chosen for the most part to target bargain or mid-value WRs in FA. It would be nice to see them give Allen another weapon, but it's probably not happening. It's just not in McBeane's DNA.

And after this season, shakir would go higher than Dotson.

Meanwhile Dotson will forever be a jag.  Terrible trade for Philly.  We gave up an extra 5th (by way of not getting one in return) and got cooper

It was obvious to people that had actually watched Shakir -  rather than just trolled.  There was never a question unless you just looked at td totals.
eanwhile-  Dotson has 12 catches- 7 since October

No.  We need a #1 WR, not a #3 and not for that price.

Trade for Davante Adams or Ayiuk.  That's about all that's left.

Aren’t you glad we have kick ass WRs, draft picks, and cap space?  Or should we have followed your wisdom, and blown all that on Ayiuk or Adams?  One of you and Beane is a Wizard.

Yea. Dotson sucks. I was never particularly high on him. Shakir would definitely go higher in a re-draft now.

I had them about a round apart at the time. Mid 2 on Dotson, mid 3rd on Shakir.

Was an awful trade for Philly.

Dotson has developed into that football trading card you clip on your bicycle, so it makes noise on the spokes.  Vroom vroom!

🤔😁

I've often wondered what baseball cards I clipped onto my bike back in the '60s that would have been worth a fortune if only I'd have saved them.

Baseball cards, yes.  The real gold mine in sports cards seemed to be in hockey cards from the sixties and seventies, since they were produced in modest quantities, and aimed mostly at a Canadian market.  My brother in law had hundreds, lord knows the value they would have had if he had kept them in good condition.

It was a joke.  Buffalo has several slot receivers who are clearly better than Dotson.  That guy’s a bum.

Interesting- somewhere i have all the cards my brother and I collected as kids - have almost complete nfl sets for 3-4 years early 70's - but also a bunch of hockey cards - and also ABA cards! 😛

I recall baseball cards from the 80s and 90s being produced in ridiculous quantities, greatly undermining the value.  The cards you're sitting on would certainly be worth having an expert evaluate their price.

The Bills have a slot receiver who is already better than Dotson.     Dotson is average to below average in everyway.   Average size, average speed for a player his size, below average hands.      I wish there was a good outside wideout available for trade but the names out there aren't very good.

Dotson has played in 25 straight games.  Hamler has played in 23 games total in his 4 year career.  Dotson has 11 TDs in his 2 year career.  Hamler has 3 in his 4 year career.  They aren’t similar in any meaningful way other than both being WRs from Penn State.

Who?

This is a joke? If so, your sense of humor really sucks.

Please explain the punchline of your “joke”.  You cut out the majority of his post to single out that one sentence and took a  💩on Shakir.

My Dad told me he had Mickey Mantle in the front wheel and Roger Maris in the back, whoops. Then again, if no one had been doing that, those cards would never have gotten scarce and would never have been worth anything.

Mantle and Maris were the huge stars of the day.  I had both cards but I suppose everyone did.  I hate to think that I destroyed those legends biking the streets of Rochester.
