Bill Walsh rule of throwing a slant (or most passes) SIX INCHES in front of the numbers.  Also the first thing they are told is to never throw it high.  

 

This throw was high and away.  It was terrible and it wasn't a spiral.  Jerry Rice wasn't catching that ball nor should he have been expected to.

 

and for anyone who needs to understand this please go buy and read Tim Layden's "Blood, Sweat & Chalk".

 

on Page 99, Mike Holmgren tells a story, during practice one day Montana threw a pass behind Rice and he reached back and caught it and Holmgren yelled to Rice great catch, Bill Walsh came running over and screamed at Holmgren that it was a bad throw and quarterbacks were to throw passes SIX INCHES in front of the numbers.  That is where a good ball is.  If they did not the assistant coaches would feel BIll Walsh's wrath and then they would go after the players.

 

so in a nutshell, Trubisky's pass was awful and its Embarrassing that so many fans and media members can not see this when it is plain as day.

Agreed.  Coleman did right thing not getting himself killed trying to catch a knuckle curve pass.  Trubisky looked EJ Manuel ‘deer in headlights’ bad.  Cannot role with him as the #2.  Heck, Dinucci looked quicker and more decisive on the couple passes they let him throw.

That pass was right on the money. In his hands. It's football. Catch it. Coleman is scared to get hit. That's the wrap on him and it shows. Hopefully he learns to toughen up cause this is the show and if you can't play with the big boys you won't play.

when I re-watched it, I think that ball was thrown too hard and was slicing hard. Almost feel like Coleman thought he had it, but just sliced hard away from him at the last second.

I don't understand why Beane and McDermott are so clueless about the backup quarterback position. Couldn't they see how much Trubisky has regressed when looking for a decent backup? I could care less if he is "pals" with Josh, he shouldn't be on this team.

Might it be because the Bills offensive design emphasizes the run, schemes up the run very well and Is rudderless on designed passes beyond WR screens?  After Dorsey left the Bills offense absolutely had some good games, most notably the curb stomping of Dallas.  Scoring is the point so that’s good but you can’t be one dimensional.  The on script success was all run.  The Dallas game was like when the Dolphins beat the Pats with the Wildcat.  Unexpected and productive but temporary.

 

“Diggs disappeared” is the required mantra on this board but it is a false narrative unless you include the rest of on script passing game along with Diggs.  Pass game production came primarily from Josh improv which is fun, but bad policy.  This year it will get worse because 1. Our receivers aren’t great, we lost Our best and 2. Sooner or later the opposition will adapt to our run game.  
 

Brady is one of these pumped up geniuses a la Nathaniel Hackett that has already flopped but somehow maintained his credentials.  The silver lining could be Brady’s ineptitude may force Josh to be not only a “best buddy” type leader but also a leader who questions authority and demands change.  To date, he has not shown that ability but the time is drawing near.

Pass rush sets the tone

 

Coming off a lackluster defensive performance in the preseason opener, Buffalo went into Saturday's contest with the mentality that they needed to assert themselves, and do it quickly.

 

It only took the Bills three plays to do so as DE Greg Rousseau came flying off the edge on a third down play to spin down QB Russell Wilson for an 11-yard sack. The next series was equally as impressive with the entire line generating pressure against the Steelers front on first down. Rousseau, along with Ed Oliver, wrapped up Wilson on the play.

 

To top it off, Rousseau got to Wilson again on the following series, this one being another third down sack for a loss of seven. Rousseau was explosive off the line of scrimmage during the quarter and a half that he played, utilizing his quick twitch get around Steelers OT Broderick Jones.

 

 

Buffalo Joe

 

Sometimes all you need is a chance. Saturday, undrafted rookie Joe Andreessen made the most of his. In the wake of several injuries at the linebacker position, Andreessen got the start across from Dorian Williams; Terrel Bernard was a healthy non-participant.

 

Andreessen, a Buffalo native, made impact plays all night, finishing his second professional game with a team-high 12 total tackles, two tackles for a loss and a fourth-down stop in the second half.

 

"When a young guy gets an opportunity and he makes the most of it's just fun to watch, especially a local guy," McDermott said. "You love stories like that, right? So, real happy for Joe."

"The reason there was that Josh had a good week of practice, played well in the practice against the Steelers two days ago, and the conditions the way it was, I didn't love that. And then the warmup wasn't a full warm up with the weather the way it was," McDermott said.
