We have a backup QB problem

I get it - If Allen goes down with a catastrophic injury, our season is over. That is the case for nearly every NFL team and their starting QB.

However, there also exists injuries that are not season ending. Sometimes you need your backup QB to keep things together for a few games until the star comes back. We need to think no farther than 2019 when Mahomes missed 3 games. The Chiefs went 2-1 without him and their backup was able to avoid a collapse. The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

Trubisky is an absolute disaster. He’s awful. To that point, two facts/statistics stick out to me:

- He was with the Steelers the past two seasons and he was 2-5 when Trubisky starters. That same team was 17-10 over the past two seasons with ANYONE else at QB. He was a handicap for Pitt and he is a handicap for us.

- He has started 57 games in the NFL. In that time, he has won a total of 5 times when his team was trailing in the 4th quarter. And his team was usually trailing in the 4th quarter.  In other words, if we are down in the 4th quarter, and Trubisky is playing, we are toast.

Correct. So why worry about his backup? Unless Mahommes, Joe B, or Herbert want to troll the NFL and become his backup, it doesn’t matter.

Josh is 98% of this team.

Beat me to it, we know a serious injury to JA the season is lost but this is unacceptable.  We need a reliable #2 who can win one or two games for us if needed.  They have to find someone and quick!

If Josh gets hurt it’s best to lose as many as possible for a stud draft pick.

whatever

If Allen is out for 2 games then it’s best to lose those 2 games? Or did you not read the thread at all and simply responded based on the title?

If Allen misses two games, the season shouldn’t be over, even if we lost both games.

so what are we talking about? A very specific scenario where we are bad enough to be in danger of missing the playoffs if we lose an extra game or two, but where we are also good enough to win a Super Bowl?

it makes zero sense. Backup QBs don’t matter

Trubisky isn’t great for sure, but who can you realistically get?  Tannehill is going to wait for a starter to get hurt.  If he was willing to backup he’d be on a roster right now.

Maybe, maybe not. Tannehill would have a shot at a Lombardi if he played for Buffalo.

so what are we talking about?

If the Bills lost 2 more games last season, they would have been out of the playoffs.

If the Chiefs lost those 3 games with their backup in 2019, they would have missed the playoffs if any other division.

Yet they won the Super Bowl.

God forbid that happens that falls on McDermott and Brady to work with whomever.

Stefanski for example in Cleveland has worked very well with Flacco and Brisett to maximize their abilities.

We weren’t good enough to win a Super Bowl last year. Obviously.

The Chiefs would’ve still made the playoffs in 2019. They would have still won the Super Bowl.

You just proved my point PERFECTLY. Lol

No. You simply ignored half of what I said.

Bucs won the Super Bowl a couple years ago. They would have missed the playoffs with 2 more losses.

Giants would have 2 less Lombardi Trophies if they had loss 2 more games that season.

The examples could go on and on. 2 games is a lot. And yes you can be good enough to win a SB but not great enough to be able to spare 2 games.

NFL history is LITTERED with examples. I could list another 15 examples.
