Can Lindy get the Sabres over the hump and break the 2nd greatest playoff drought in Buffalo history?

Just hoping he comes back. He couldn’t have seen this coming

Are you? I’ve been disappointed with Lindy so far.

I really haven’t been overly impressed with his coaching. I’m not a fan of his man-on-man defensive zone system and it seems like most players are regressing under him, except for Krebs and a couple veterans (Zucker, Greenway, Tuch. Also Dahlin but he’s going to be good no matter who his coach is, as will Tuch).

He just seems like a bad fit for this roster.

The problem is, if he decides to step away there’s almost zero chance the Sabres hire another veteran coach. Adams would just promote Seth Appert and I have absolutely no interest in seeing that happen. Especially with how good Rochester has been this year with a new coach, and how bad Buffalo’s PP has been under his tutelage this season.

Yes on the problem you mentioned. I just think we have a jumbled roster from continually changing coaches and systems. Had Lindy known that I doubt he would have come. I’d prefer to stick with him and get a GM that can get him what he needs. We lack toughness and that Needs to change quickly. I do like Zucker a lot, he’s more in line with what we need for sure

I agree the roster is a jumbled mess, but I don’t think it’s from changing coaches. The roster really hasn’t changed all that much in recent years, outside of the bottom 6. This is the roster that our (incompetent) GM built on purpose. This is Adams rebuild in year 5. It’s filled with players he drafted, traded for and/or paid big money to. He’s talked about how this is the roster he would want for game 7 of a Stanley cup final. After Granato was fired, he even talked about how he was promised roster upgrades that never came.

Personally, I’d like to see them start fresh with a new team president, GM and coaching staff. But I could live with Lindy being back if it meant a new GM would be taking over! 😂 (as long as it’s not another Pegula yes man). I’d still prefer a new coach, but I also don’t think coaching is anywhere near their #1 issue.

Thanks for whatever success he had here in the past, but I’m definitely not hoping he returns. He was a desperation nostalgic hire and it seems likely that today’s game has passed him by.

He's not the same coach from 20 years ago, but 2 years ago he did lead the Devils to a franchise record in points (112) with a relatively young roster, so I wouldn't say the game has passed him by. Of course he got canned the next year when his goaltending cratered, but we have a similar problem here:

Reimer - 37yr old journeyman backup goaltender thinking retirement 2.72 GA and .904 SV%

UPL - our starter just signed for 5yrs $24M has a 3.16 GA and .888 SV%

It's crazy how bad UPL regressed this year the minute he gets his contract.

I think a lot of fans want the problem to be the coach because it's the easiest fix, right? Just get the right coach and all is well. But that's not the case here. There are serious problems with the way this roster is constructed.

I know the defense is not the best BUT, UPL being under 90% sv% is unacceptable. He's no #1 goalie

He regressed a lot. The defense is still terrible.

Definitely a case where both things are true, because our defensive play is lousy. It just feels like we are 13 years from the Ryan Miller days and still trying to fix the goaltender issue.

Nothing like being on the brink of elimination to start playing lights-out.

Reimer has won 3 in a row, even more proof UPL is not a number one goalie

Doesn’t this happen a lot? Giving us hope for the next season?

My guess? When they decide to seek money for a new building, they miraculously will get better… 😂

Next October, Lindy should address the team before a game and say, "Gentlemen, it's March 15th, now get out there and play some hockey"!
