Sabres we're determined not to let them back in so it was Alamo-mode in the third. It worked.

They kept everyone back to defend in the third. Also, the Sabres became the first NHL team to score a goal without a single shot on goal in a period. A penalty shot was awarded on an empty net, which is an automatic goal.

Probably their best move.  I was saying to myself weeks ago that they should be doing that.

And saw that stat.  I've never even seen an awarded goal before (not that I watch a ton of hockey, mind you).

That was a rare event. But if you are on a breakaway on an empty net and you are fouled, in this case slashed, you are awarded a penalty shot, which becomes an automatic goal.

So for anyone who watched the game, was the reason why they had zero shots is because they were just playing to protect the lead and playing offense and expose themselves?  I don't think I've ever seen a team not take a single shot in a period before.

I don't think I have seen a shotless period in thousands of games watched.

I have an idea. A clothing company in Oakland, CA, Oaklandish, made SELL t-shirts and flags in Oakland A's colors. Those sold well. They would be willing to make SELL flags in Sabres colors, but we would need a bunch of orders before they would make them. No pricing yet, but my Oakland A's SELL flag cost $10. Would anyone be interesting in a Buffalo Sabres SELL flag?

E-gads, another record at the Sabres expense....

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alex Nedeljkovic remembers admiring the way Marty Turco and Martin Brodeur handled the puck during his childhood.

On Friday night, he accomplished something neither of them -- nor any other goalie -- had done.

Nedeljkovic became the first goalie in NHL history to have a goal and an assist in a game during the Pittsburgh Penguins' 5-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres.

I'm as die hard as you can get being 54 years old and living in Virginia since 1975. I love hockey and I love football equally.  Sabres and Bills.  The Bills drought seemed different even though it was longer.  Maybe recency bias,  I don't know , it's been discussed,  same owners and completely different results. I'm calling this the glass half full. All is not lost but the hockey does sting.
