They kept everyone back to defend in the third. Also, the Sabres became the first NHL team to score a goal without a single shot on goal in a period. A penalty shot was awarded on an empty net, which is an automatic goal. https://www.nhl.com/news/carolina-hurricanes-buffalo-sabres-game-recap-january-15#:~:text=The Sabres are the first,in a period were tracked. … Probably their best move. I was saying to myself weeks ago that they should be doing that. And saw that stat. I've never even seen an awarded goal before (not that I watch a ton of hockey, mind you). But if you are on a breakaway on an empty net and you are fouled, in this case slashed, you are awarded a penalty shot, which becomes an automatic goal. Quote
Jauronimo Posted Thursday at 03:18 PM Posted Thursday at 03:18 PM The Canes are pretty pathetic. Couldn't even force OT down 2 with 4 minutes left! Brind Amour is on the hot seat. 1 Quote
May Day 10 Posted Thursday at 03:55 PM Posted Thursday at 03:55 PM 2 hours ago, Doc said: So for anyone who watched the game, was the reason why they had zero shots is because they were just playing to protect the lead and playing offense and expose themselves? I don't think I've ever seen a team not take a single shot in a period before. I don't think I have seen a shotless period in thousands of games watched. 1 Quote
Jauronimo Posted Thursday at 03:59 PM Posted Thursday at 03:59 PM UPL needs to work on his shooting. That one never had a chance. 1 Quote
Buddy Hix Posted Saturday at 02:59 AM Posted Saturday at 02:59 AM Sabres getting scored on by a goalie is classic Buffalo, lmao. The fans in Buffalo deserve better than 100+ years of zero championships. Quote
EmotionallyUnstable Posted Saturday at 03:08 AM Posted Saturday at 03:08 AM So we still suck, eh? Quote
Draconator Posted Saturday at 03:48 AM Author Posted Saturday at 03:48 AM I have an idea. A clothing company in Oakland, CA, Oaklandish, made SELL t-shirts and flags in Oakland A's colors. Those sold well. They would be willing to make SELL flags in Sabres colors, but we would need a bunch of orders before they would make them. No pricing yet, but my Oakland A's SELL flag cost $10. Would anyone be interesting in a Buffalo Sabres SELL flag? 1 1 Quote
Mike in Horseheads Posted Saturday at 06:04 AM Posted Saturday at 06:04 AM E-gads, another record at the Sabres expense.... BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alex Nedeljkovic remembers admiring the way Marty Turco and Martin Brodeur handled the puck during his childhood. On Friday night, he accomplished something neither of them -- nor any other goalie -- had done. Nedeljkovic became the first goalie in NHL history to have a goal and an assist in a game during the Pittsburgh Penguins' 5-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres. Quote
jayg Posted Saturday at 07:03 AM Posted Saturday at 07:03 AM I'm as die hard as you can get being 54 years old and living in Virginia since 1975. I love hockey and I love football equally. Sabres and Bills. The Bills drought seemed different even though it was longer. Maybe recency bias, I don't know , it's been discussed, same owners and completely different results. I'm calling this the glass half full. All is not lost but the hockey does sting. Quote
