I do not understand this move.  I like Greenway okay but he's not available enough and $4 million seems like an overpay even for an always healthy Greenway.  

 

And he doesn't fit the Adams mold of small or timid.

I seen a few analytics sites that had him at 4yrs $3.5M, so I don't mind a slight overpay considering we are close to the cap floor.

 

Now giving $107M combined to Power and Cozens, yeah that's a problem.

Adams had better be fired following the season. A mannequin would have done more. He talked this team & city down in the ‘no palm trees or sunshine’ presser which was just… unconscionable. But it all comes down to paying for players — I don’t know if it’s a directive from Terry P but payroll is near the floor, right? — and not keeping around dead weight. Several prospects in the pipeline that are still developing but for a few of them, it’s time to sh— or get off the pot. And, I hate to say it, but UPL hasn’t looked very good most of this year.

Seems like a bad trade.  My friends from Ottawa seem to think that Norris is a hit away from retirement.  Cant keep his shoulder healthy

He’s on his way to a career high in games played, so there is that.

 

I don’t think we were getting much in return for Cozens. He just seems like a broken player with a high salary. This is probably the best we could have expected for a return. A talented guy that has injury problems.

A gimp whose getting paid $8 million per season for the next 5 seasons is an extremely bad trade for the Sabres. Norris has a history of missing a lot of games with a bum shoulder injury. I would much rather have kept Cozens.
 

Pegs shouldn’t have allowed lame duck GM Kevyn Adams to execute this trade or any trade before he gets fired at the end of the season. Pegs, you need to pay more attention to your team, pal.

Cozens is softer than baby poo. They can enjoy him.

 

To clarify, Lord Terrance and his minions have ruined this sport for me so I frankly don't care and the most interest I have is as a heckler and for the disaster porn of it.

 

I flipped a game on out of boredom a week or two back and the Missus (whose only knowledge of hockey comes from watching pee wee hockey) looks up and says "My God their defense is terrible." Even she can see the positioning garbage and half assed effort. What hope do they have?

 

That Samuelson wears a letter is a complete joke. That Cozens also wore one is just sad.

Cozens has been horrible for 2 straight years now and drags down the play of anyone on his line. Was sickening to see 3 Lightning players jump our captain while he just stands there watching.

Buffalo got the best player in the deal. Norris is the better player right now. He is a legit #2 C on most NHL teams. He will likely be our #1 C for now.

 

He is a very good 2 way center (and an actual true center, unlike cozens). Great on both the PP and PK. He’s got a killer shot/1-timer. He gives the Sabres another dangerous shooter on the opposite wall as Tage on the PP. That could be huge. The Sabres PP is so insanely predictable - feed Tage 1-timers. Every team knows it. Now we have another guy with a deadly shot to play on the opposite side.

 

The only real question mark is his health. He’s had some shoulder injuries and had shoulder surgery but he seems to be better after the surgery. He’s been healthy so far this year and has looked good + more physical so I assume his shoulder is feeling good. (Knock on wood…).

 

I think Sabres fans like the concept of Dylan Cozens more than Cozens the actual player. I’ve never been as high on him as some Sabres fans.

 

Cozens has not been very good for Buffalo. He drags down everyone he plays with. You can see it in all the stats and analytics. Really, he had like 1/2 of one good season for Buffalo back in 2022/23 - a year where the entire f-ing roster had huge career years that none have replicated. It was when Granato was telling them not to even worry about defense. Just go out-score the other team. They were playing a wide open style that maybe caught teams off guard a bit. But then teams started clogging up the neutral zone and disrupting Buffalo’s rushing attack and they have struggled ever since.

 

I also think Cozens has tried to change his style of play too much from what made him effective in 2022.

 

and I think he’s way in his own head or something. You can literally see him thinking on the ice at times. I don’t know if it was the big contract that got in his head, or that concussion he took getting his butt kicked. Or just bad coaching, trying to make him something he’s not (or a combo of all 3…).
 

I think he can still end up being a good player if he gets back to what made him successful years ago. But I’m not sure it was happening in Buffalo. I think a fresh start may do him good.

 

I think long term Cozens is a winger, or maybe a #3 C if he’s able to stick at C. But I see him as more of a top 6 RW.

 

I was hoping the Sabres could package Cozens in a bigger deal to land a big fish. But I don’t know that Cozens value was all that high.

 

If Norris can stay healthy, he’s going to be a good player for Buffalo.

And he’s a much more finished product vs Cozens. Much higher floor and still a similar ceiling IMO. Again, the only real question is health.

I actually think Mittelstadt could do well in Boston. I think their style of play fits him better than Colorado. Mitts seemed to struggle this year with the speed and pace of play that Colorado plays with. I think the system Boston plays could fit him better, and their defensive structure should benefit him as well.

Trading Marchand to Florida for a conditional 2nd was a bit of a surprise though! 
I guess they must not have been too interested in re-signing him and wanted to get an asset before he’s UFA at year’s end.

Lots of norris' points come on the pp.

 

I wish they sabres had someone coaching our special teams.  Appert really should be coaching Buff State or SUNY Oswego.  I don't expect the pp to be any more productive.  The sabres are treating the symptoms and not the problem.

They clearly don't see him as a fit on this team as he's been a healthy scratch for over a 1/3 of the season (odd because they need right-handed D). The return was so low because he will be a UFA after this season, so it's essentially "what would you trade for Joker for 20+ games?"
