I firmly believe Thursday will be a rematch. Can't see the Fins beating Canada but they played tough against Sweden and Sweden gave Canada a game. The commutative laws of hockey suggest Finland has a real shot here if you believe in that kind of thing and I do not. Saturday night was fun but it will be a bitter pill if we lose the rematch during the game that actually matters. We will have a home ice advantage on Thursday. Goaltending and defense has been the difference so far. Team USA prioritized skaters and physical play. I still don't get loading up on Rangers that are having career worst seasons but one look at the style of play and its easy to see why Tage didn't get an invite. To make this squad you had better play a complete 200 foot game. Edited Monday at 03:39 PM by Jauronimo 2 Quote

It's okay to boo the teams or game play. But booing during the national anthems is disrespectful and demonstrates BS character. Quote

I do not get too upset over what happens during the playing of our national anthem but actively booing is a trashy move. I hope American fans refrain from booing the Canadian anthem tomorrow night but I think as a nation we are WAYYYYY past behaving based on any kind of principle. 1 1 Quote
May Day 10 Posted Wednesday at 08:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:43 PM I wouldnt boo an anthem. Just feels like bad mojo. I honestly dont blame canadians for booing though to be honest. The sitting president has recently stated that he wants to make their country the 51st state. I would think we would be pretty pissed off too if the shoe was on the other foot. 1 Quote

Gregg Posted Wednesday at 08:54 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:54 PM Watching these 4 nations play one another has been fun and it's been successful for the NHL. I could see them making this a yearly event. Looking forward to USA vs Canada tomorrow night. Hoping USA wins but with all the injuries I think Canada takes it. Quote

I strongly suspect that this will/would lose its lustre if it is a regular thing. The US/Canada thing was a result of NHL players not being able to represent their countries in quite some time and a whole generation of stars at the ready. There are international tournaments in the years to come, better tournaments that are more inclusive than just NHL players that make it better (Finland will be much stronger, as will Russia... well, Russia will be in the tournaments I think). Plus you get some other nations like Slovakia. We will have Olympics and World Cup. This tournament will (rightly) seem like small potatoes after that and I can see a lot of players opting out. This "Four Nations" thing wont nearly come close to re-creating what we have this year IMO. It would need to change. Playing the International card is something the NHL needed/needs to do though. The strong footing overseas is something unique to the sport that the other major NA sports don't have. It brings out all sorts of possibilities. 1 1 Quote

Maybe you right but I think a tournament like this would do better than the All-Star game and skills competition that goes along with the All-Star weekend festivities. Quote

I had some doubts, but this has been a smashing success for the NHL. It has infiltrated the main stream. Its great that fist fights were the backbone of that (and shows why Bettman has resisted out-lawing fighting). Im one who doesnt mind the ASG for what it is. Same goes with MLB too. Some kind of international tournament seems like it should be a permanent replacement though, I agree. With how this has gone its a no-brainer. Its a good way to increase participation from 32 teams. Also you get to host it in multiple venues. Possibly even work a 4(5?)-way skills competition in there too. 1 Quote

Between a commitment to the Olympics and World Cup we will be on an every 2 years cadence with international best on best tournaments. The 4 Nations Faceoff is one and done unless the NHL backs out of the Olympics or the World Cup folds. An IIHF sponsored tournament or at least a tourney that is not limited to NHL players will be much better. Czechs, Slovakians, and Russians should have an invite at minimum. Germans and Swiss are catching up. 1 Quote
