Mike in Horseheads Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Sabres out of the basement and only 4 pts out of 1st. They are scary (.........) 1 3 Quote

Mike in Horseheads Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Breakup the Sabres! They beat Dallass 4-2 and are moving right up in the standings ! Quote
BillsFan4 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Probably their best game of the year so far. If they keep playing like that, they’re going to be alright. 2 Quote

I was unable to watch since Houston is somehow in the Dallas market but based on the radio feed it sounded like a strong performance. They have won the two toughest games on the schedule to date and done so in convincing fashion. This season looks very different if they manage to hold on to close out LA and/or Picksburgh. The most impressive part is they are in these games based purely on 5 on 5 play. A mediocre power play would be such an upgrade that they might be undefeated since coming back to the states. The PP is a major issue but I would rather be trying to figure out how to get the special teams clicking than trying to get something going 5 on 5. I don't know if our top line production is sustainable. This stands out as a risk factor. I hope our 2nd line lack of production is not sustainable. This remains a major risk factor. Every bottom 6 acquisition is looking pretty solid right now particularly McLeod and Zucker. These guys are totally outperforming Cozens, Benson, and Quinn. 1 Quote

Zero goals 8 games in is not a good stat to start the season. Quote

Benson has been playing through an injury so at least he has an excuse. Cozens and Quinn have no excuses. They’ve just been disappointing. 22 hours ago, Jauronimo said: The most impressive part is they are in these games based purely on 5 on 5 play. They need to figure out the PP quick. Their 5v5 numbers being so good despite not getting any production from half their top 6 makes it even more impressive IMO. And without the standard production from Dahlin we are used to… I’m sure he’ll get going soon enough. He was injured to start the year too. Right now the 3rd line is vastly out-performing the “second” line despite getting heavy d-zone starts. I’m really hoping that 2nd line will get going at some point. Kulich has looked good. I hope Cozens and Quinn can find their games. Cozens was fantastic at the world’s for Canada. Thats the Cozens Buffalo needs. If that second line gets going and the rest of the team keeps performing, it’ll be pretty exciting. The only bottom 6 addition that hasn’t looked good is Lafferty. 2 Quote

Cozens lights it up every offseason playing for Canada. I think he is struggling with the pressure to live up to the contract, wearing the A, and turning this franchise around. Benson has a high hockey IQ and flashes as a playmaker in spots but I think hes just too small right now to be effective. He is too easily pushed off the puck. His CORSI score is high which is a continuing challenge to my entry to the world of advanced stats. Can't believe this PP has yet to score when you have two elite one timers on opposite wings in Tage and Kulich. They've had their chances but nothing falling. I don't like Cozens in the bumper spot but I like him even less on the wing on the PP. Quinn strikes me as an ideal fit for the bumper spot but what do I know. 2 Quote
BillsFan4 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Wow… 3 wins in a row this early in the season. When was the first time they won 3 in a row last year? I think they only did it once or twice all year, didn’t they? It would be a big step forward if this team could start stringing together 3(+) wins at a time (and also not follow it up by losing multiple games in a row. lol). They have struggled for years to consistently win 3 in a row. Edited October 26 by BillsFan4 1 1 Quote
Mike in Horseheads Posted October 26 Posted October 26 4-4-1 9pts = 2nd place at press time. Lindy Ruff coach of the year lol 4 minutes ago, BillsFan4 said: Wow… 3 wins in a row this early in the season. When was the first time they won 3 in a row last year? Pete Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Nice streak Sabres! Ooooh! Aaaah! Sabres on the war path! Quote
QCity Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I'm used to them sleepwalking through these afternoon games, so that was a surprise. Also, the problem with slow starts seems to be fixed. 1 Quote

You're up! Panthers are the next opponent and we beat them pretty soundly last time so I'm sure they will be motivated. Here's a little primer on what you've missed: 1. Sabres have been the better team in every game except for Columbus since coming back to North America, in my opinion. They've been playing well. 2. Levi isn't very good. 3. With even a bottom 3rd PP, this team would likely be undefeated since returning from Europe (which isn't even a real country anyway) 4. The PP finally scored yesterday which means they're contribution on the season remains -1. But signs of life are encouraging. 5. Buffalo leads the league in 5 on 5 scoring. 6. Sabres are the worst team in the history of hockey when defending a 1 goal lead with under 2 mins to play. 7. All of GM KA's much criticized bottom 6 signings have been amazing to date. McLeod, Zucker, and Malenstyn are all playing really well. 8. Quinn, Cozens, and Benson are a black hole of offense and bad defensively. 9. Sabres are near the league lead in points by defenseman. Lindy is taking Owen Power to the next level. Dahlin is playing through injury. Byram is not too shabby. 10. There is a $40 dollar burger being sold at the rink that looks like it would make you ***** your pants pretty much instantly after consumption. 11. Jeff Skinner is playing 3rd line with the Oilers and has fewer goals than McLeod and fewer points than Zucker. 1 1 1 Quote

They have struggled for years to consistently win 3 in a row. It took until February 25th to win 3 games in a row last season. They would have two 3 game winning streaks in 2023-2024 season (both ended at 3); one in February and one in March, both of which included a SO victory. 2022 saw a number of little hot streaks. 1 Quote
